You cannot go wrong with either of them! More wear/tear will be done via driving style/use/proper abuse VS just coming down to which oil you choose! In conclusion.. this guy goes all out with these tests and its freaking awesome seeing how large his channel and subscriber base has gotton! GREAT STUFF!

@@ProjectFarm Your testing runs with my findings. I bought a 2012 BMW Alpina B7 and alternated Amsoil and RP every 10k miles with a 3k washout in between using BMW recommended Castrol. I gave each oil 5 runs of 10k each so a grand total of 100k testing miles. Results were as follows: Amsoil consistantly had lower burnoff and less metals content in (ppm) than RP. RP had consistently better mpg and carbon buildup(visual inspection of cylinder heads) than Amsoil. I concluded at 140k that each of these oils "proprietary" blend is designed to do something different!!! Amsoil obviously has something in it that increases stability at high temps. RP obviously has something in it that reduces friction. Thanks for posting your findings!

The problem I see with this test is he is using RP's entry level API oil and not their mid level or top line oils. Amsoil signature is in the top of Amsoils line up. RP now has HPS their mid level oil and XPR which is their full racing oil. the HPS is the stating point were you get their special additive, since they have been bought out. That means the cheaper API oil off wal-mart or box store auto parts stores do not come with Synerlec®. It also has higher zinc and other additives like the Amsoil.

Its because AMSOIL SIGNATURE SERIES uses (PAO base stock) mixed with an (ESTER base stock) the ONLY other oil brand to use ESTERs in 2019 is Redline, because of the extremely high cost, the issue is an ESTER oil by itself absorbs a lot of moisture much like brake fluid does. So for racing applications where the oil is changed daily or per race, its the best option for lubrication. But in the application of daily transportation you require PAO mixed with it to block the moisture out. A massive percentage of "synthetic" oils on the market are crude oil base stock heavily refined in a process called hydro-cracking(this legally is considered synthetic oil), a TINY percentage of the "synthetic" oils on the market are a mixture of PAO and ESTER base. Hence why AMSOIL is un-beatable in automotive transportation application, and machinery applications including; Jet engines. MOBIL 1 used to sell the same product as AMSOIL and did away with it, because the cost didn't yield enough profit margin. But true PAO and ESTER based oils have been around for a very very long time, but were 1st brought to the automotive market by AMSOIL and AMSOIL is the only company to continue selling it to this day in their SIGNATURE SERIES !ONLY! All other AMSOIL bottles are the same as Mobilone/Quakerstate/Castrol/Royalpurple/etc.etc.. In the sense they are refined crude oil, with a tiny fraction of real PAO base stock mixed in with an additive package, not real synthetic oil but thanks to Mobil 1's law suit it is legally considered "Synthetic oil" Thus to stay competative AMSOIL offers the same product at the increased profit margins like the other companies but maintains its "Signature line" with the original formula with modern additive packages. Hope that enlightens some people, the issue is with "synthetic blend" oils, because if it says "synthetic blend" on the bottle, there is no limits set to how much of the bottle needs to be synthetic or "hydrocracked" crude oil, so companies like Castrol, with their GTX synthetic blend sell a bottle with basically plain conventional oil (crappy at best) mixed with a tiny bit of hydrocracked crude oil to consider it a "synthetic blend" and then during tests if you look barely meet the minimal requirements. Hence why you see AMSOIL consistently in 1st and 2nd place, and not castrol. Or any other brand... unfortunately, because I ran Castrol for years. The same over priced oil that wasn't as the label led me to believe.
@anirudhranganatha3827

That's great for stationary engines and race engines, but, will those esters foul catalytic converters and oxygen sensors? I have found in many cases, the cars that need to have emission control components replaced, are the ones that consume more oil. I think fouling by components of the oil play a bigger part, than how the car is driven, unless the driving causes higher oil consumption. I'm always trying to find information on line, to see if some EP additive does the same thing as tetra ethylene lead. I know that some oils use zinc for better lubricity, and that might be hard on emission components.

I submitted for an oil analysis on my used engine oil AMSOIL 5-30 OE series with 10,000KM and from the results the oil did not break down or wear out... it's also not worth the increased cost of signature series if your engine is older and burns oil more than usual per oil change, especially if you're following the manufacturers recommended intervals for service. the more expensive oil will evaporate away from defects in worn engines at the same rate that any other oil will.

Yes, this is not an ASTM test, it is a field test and as long as it is run correctly, the results are at least as accurate and fair as Project Farm's results.

@@bluesky7333 How do you feel about changing oil in that long distance interval? I read engineering reports, watch these videos from Scotty Kilmer, the Car Care Nut, who say that modern engines still burn oil, dilute oil with gasoline, which acts as a solvent, score piston cylinders, and still recommend using full synthetic oil but changing every 5,000 miles. I like that you are using Amsoil, I just cannot reconcile that with your distance interval; 10,000 miles seems like a lot of diluted gasoline, burned oil inside. But, you wrote that it saves you from having to change the oil so often, so perhaps for you that is the upside. I change my oil every 4,000 miles, use Valvoline high mileage max life full synthetic, and add a can of oil additive BG MOA PN 115 to it. Maybe I don't quite need to go to Amsoil with my profile?
@bluesky7333

@@Artecus Let's make sure we're on same page. FULL synthetic is not 100% synthetic. There is a difference. FULL Synthetic is still a blend of synthetic and base oils. AMSOIL is the ONLY oil that is 100% synthetic. I go 10,000 miles or thereabouts, but note that AMSOIL GUARANTEES UP TO 25,000 MILE INTERVALS. If going up that high they recommend their filter, because it catches much smaller particles. I have only had 3 cars (all used) in the last 25 years. The total cost for all 3 was $20,000. I wouldn't do what I do if I was a new car every 3 years kind of guy. I've had my used Tundra now for 16 years. It has been my daily driver the whole time.

There's so many comments out there saying Amsoil is just marketing garbage, no doubt by people that don't base their comments on anything. It's great to see your unbiased videos showing some real world results. The used oil flow test was amazing. Something that always seems to be left out about lubrication is the need for excellent filtration. Taking it to a ridiculous level, even Amsoil would not be much good if you have some fine abrasive powder in the oil and it's particle size is small enough to pass right through the filter material. I read a white paper on Amsoil lubrication many years ago and it included a lot of talk about both full flow filtration and bypass filtration. Quality full flow filters with high efficiency and also very low micron bypass filtration, where a small percentage (maybe about 10%) of the main oil flow goes through a bypass filter. That filter even removes small soot particle down to about 2 microns, leaving you with extremely clean oil. I think the aim was to have any wear causing particles smaller than the lubricating oil film thickness. Some engines were getting over 1 million miles with such a setup.

Most high mileage oil just means that it has specific purpose additives ie. to help worn rubber seals that are getting leaky after some mileage. While the oil may work for a long time, oil and dirt make a grinding compound... If the oil filter did a 100 % good job, the oil would not change color. It's a harsh environment for an oil to endure because the engine is usually near red line at top speeds, and my boost pressure is 15+ PSI. Plus you need to account for the moisture salt rich environment. Both were ran to 20 hours which is what Kawasaki recommends with samples sent to blackstone labs.. The results were that the RP didn't hold up anywhere near as well as the Amsoil did. The RP lost viscosity as well where the Amsoil didn't. When we changed over from conventional lubricants to synthetics the results were shocking. Electric motor bearings running 20-30 degrees cooler. Applications where quarterly oil changes the lubricant would drain out black and chunky, now the oil still looked new. We have gone from quarterly oil changes to yearly. In some cases we dont change at all, just sample and top off. Nothing every breaks from a lubrication problem anymore. The cost savings in material and manpower has been substantial. RP has been great but I'm pretty sure any quality synthetic would give similar results. Synthetic all the way!

Have you ever tested any Castor racing oils ? Yes, primarily used in racing two stroke engines, but I think the lubricity test will be amazing. Sadly, they are Thicker , like Sae 30 and burn dirty, as well as not flowing well . They can also separate from gas with a lower specific gravity, like the VP 110 that my vintage air cooled two strokes use. How about a two stroke oil test focusing on racing Castor ? Maybe two pure Castors like Blendzall Gold Label and Klotz Be -Nol And two synthetic /Castor blends like Maxima Castor 927 and Klotz R50 Super Techniplate? Instead of the cold flow test , mix each with a race fuel like VP C12 or similar and cool the pre mix to 40 degrees Fahrenheit to see which separates?

From what I gathered both are excellent and easily the top 2 oils in the world which is why they are compared here. if ur in a colder climate id run amsoil. But for me I live near the equator, so i would get whichever is cheaper. Thats a win win for us and just makes sense for me.

If I can find where to buy amsoil here in BC Canada I'll be using that from now on. I'll still use royal purple in my diff and trans in my e350 van though. Very impressive difference. Sure glad I have your videos to help make decisions.

I'm doing a long term test with a 2009 Toyota Matrix I purchased brand new with the 1.8L with Amsoil signature series. After the initial oil from the factory was removed at 5k, I put in the Amsoil and go according to their schedule of 25k or less w/filter OR 1 year. I do check my oil almost every fill up and do have minor consumption (perhaps 1 quart every 10k or so). Every 2 oil changes or so I send my oil to be analyzed at the lab. Results thus far have been good for oil quality to date and running condition of the car (120k, driven daily, but obviously never that far). This proves to me the Amsoil is working. I also do not make many short trips, nor do I drive on the highway much. I live on Cape Cod and the temp here rarely goes below 30 degrees F.

It was 1985, temp by my house was -5F. (The coldest it has been where I live in my lifetime) We had 2 identical Toyota Celicas with manual transmissions. 1 had amsoil in the transmission. 1 had regular MTF. I had to move both of these cars to finish shoveling my driveway. The amsoil car was put in gear right away with slightly more resistance than normal. The regular MTF car needed 10 minutes with the engine running just to be able to move the gear selector at all. That sold me on amsoil. While today’s regular oils are probably better than amsoil from 1985, it doesn’t shock me that they still make a superior product.

Being a 6.0 they are temperamental, but I’d have to say the engine is super happy with amsoil. I’ll probably start running that in all my cars after this video because currently the truck is the only one that gets it.

I was an AmsOil Dealer back in the mid-1980's and I still swear by it for ALL uses. One of my bigger sellers was the 2 Stroke Oil. One Can with One Mixture Ratio (100:1 iirc) for all your 2 Stroke engines saves having to label each can for each machine. One can will serve them all. More importantly is the performance gain. Many Boaters (from fishing boats to hi-performance skier pulling boats) explained that the first tank of gas saw a decrease in engine performance but by the 2nd tank, the performance not only returned but increased significantly such that to this day, they continue to use AmsOil 2 Stroke Oil. It was determined the the first can or tank of gas (mixed obviously) cleaned out lots of gunk that had built up over time and subsequently ran much better. If I weren't so crippled, I'd likely become a dealer again.
