@@DessertGeek I've noticed a lot of ice cream brands at the grocery store have been cutting corners on quality lately. Some of my old favorites don't taste as good anymore. I'm not sure what brands to get when I go to the store anymore. Maybe you could do an ice cream brand taste comparison video?

That’s a good idea! Thanks! I fully admit that our house ice creams are all local brands since Seattle has some ridiculously good ice cream makers, so I’m not really aware of what the larger ice cream brands are up to. (Are there any good local brands near you? That’s what I’d be looking for honestly, they’ve been pretty consistent out here.) I have been wanting to cover Jeni’s, but I’ll look into what my local grocery store options are!

Wow it looks so minimalist! Thank you for sharing this because Japanese snacks are really interesting. 🌸

Thanks! And I totally agree, Japanese snacks can be so much fun! (I still really just want a pack of jellies/kanten, it's just the best.)

Fun review! I love Baumkuchen and have never had any without chocolate; thanks for showing this one and the other treats! I hear you about loud external conditions getting in the way of filming; with your expert editing, all was perfect of course. Around here, with roof-tastrophe, and my total lack of editing: oy. Happy sakura season!

Happy sakura season Valerie! Hopefully the blooms are looking lovely in Chicago! And you know, I don't know if I've had baumkuchen with chocolate unless I'm adding it on myself? I know that's a traditional style but all the Japanese ones I've had lack chocolate. Time to fix that! And sheesh you need a break from the roof-tastrophe already! I can't believe it's still ongoing!

@@DessertGeek Spring in Chicago is more accurately called Second Winter (e.g. snow yesterday, 33F today) and that's ok: it means extended hot chocolate season, and enjoyable viewing of sakura-themed presentations like yours, dear Jess! Roof-tastrophe: The Musical -- Now In Year 3! It's more like a horror show. Here's to happy outcomes. And delicious dessert variations around the world!

@@valeriebeck2302 Now I'm curious if there's a craft chocolate sakura hot chocolate out there! Do you know of any? Like it feels like the kind of thing 9th and Larkin would do to match their ume bar, or maybe Sugoi Sweets, but I don't think I've seen anyone do a sakura drinking chocolate. And year three!? Nooooo! You need a roof break! But yes, here to delicious desserts in all their awesome ways!

I know a la carte can give a tailored experience, but I have trouble shopping for new stuff online, so I'd still probably get the box a couple times to figure out what kinds of things I like. Great review!

Thanks! And I hear that! That's kind of why I like the fact that the JapanHaul website does allow you to search by past boxes, so at least you can follow previous curations, but I also definitely get going for the full curated experience when you're starting out.

Totally random but do you happen to remember the streak code from this box? I didn't activate mine and I cannot find my booklet anywhere. I think the roomie tossed it 😭😭

So I went looking and I don't have it, sorry! (I wasn't doing the streak so I didn't input it either.) Though have you tried talking to Bokksu? I mean I can't see why they wouldn't give you the code since you got the box! Best of luck and I really hope you can keep your streak!

Why would not eating the peach piece or too much strawberry be safe?

So I have Oral Allergy Syndrome! If you haven't heard about OAS before, I cover it here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uKh6zZWAb3iClIo (Basically I'm allergic to some pollens, like grass and birch, but my body thinks strawberry and peach proteins are close enough to those pollens that I can have a reaction, but I'm not actually allergic to strawberries.)

@@Meekachii Yep, plenty fine! No worries here, and thanks for looking out for me! (I always keep water on hand during filming, even if you can't see the mug it'll be there, which stops my level of OAS response.)

That senbei was definitely An Experience. One I'm most glad is over. To each their own! As it is it's so small I'd only use it for propagation, but that might work! Like if our spider plant sprouts buddies maybe?

@@just_another_Japan_Life_Vlog I hear that! And yeah, it's big for a sake glass, but definitely not big. I just measured it for curiosity's sake and it's 8mm tall with the base, just under 7mm at the widest point. Cuttings will get a fancy throne!
