Before watching the video I assumed David would at least mention the great piece of work that is "Guns, Germs, and Steel." Harari's work was heavily influenced by Jared Diamond's work. Harari has even talked about it. Then again, the point of this video wasn't to specifically talk about Harari or Sapiens. It's about how, by having several sources and being able to connect the dots, one can tell a great story. Great video, David! Disclaimer: I haven't read Sapiens, but have enjoyed reading 'Guns, Germs and Steel". Maybe someday.

Good Video. Insightful. I've enjoyed the comments section as well. I came across Sapiens recently, I was surprised that Suh a successful book published years ago caught my attention this month. The book caught my attention. In the last 2 months I've been coming across all these videos from different platforms and somehow I've also been falling in on others people's person to person conversations/discussions on the nature of idea and what makes them successful. There's been a common thread to these idea topics and I keep coming presented to them with increasing frequency which is good since I feel like they are constructing a solid stance on this topic ony mind for my own productive use. They are as wide ranging as the book "big magic" to say this video for instance. Or how the greats of old such as Shakespeare, or Einstein tapped into old ideas and made them fresh again. The world exists in a form of repetition in all things. Anyway. It was interesting to me to find this video which was uploaded less than a week ago, addressing the concept of ideas reflected on the "old book" Sapiens no less!! The coincidences are delicious. What's even better is that Perell spoke about this with the clarity I needed to hear. Do our senses, intentions and interests unintentionally filter the world to have it present us what we subconsciously seek? I know social media platform Algorithms have made this work easier by curating and shoveling out way tons of information based on our searches and what we spend time listening to, though this same principle applies in the real non-digital world where we find ourselves meeting new people who present us what we want, or even suddenly having people we know discuss or talk out of no where something that's been on our kinds. I hope this doesn't sound like some pseudo-quantum style theories, it's just an observation I wanted to share.

I always like reading the comments on a youtube channel to gauge a video. It’s disappointing when people don’t add any perspective for their opinion. So… Personally I would have liked if David focused more on what makes Yuval a unique story teller or who had a big influence. Maybe even give more detail on his meditation practice. I’m measuring this against what you have written about Peter Thiel which I thought was excellent. I hope my comments are seen as constructive. To finish on a positive note. You have captured my attention and I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to future content.

Martin, thanks for this! I'll keep this in mind as we make future videos. We're trying to balance editorial comments like the ones you mention (which take time to form!) with our desire to be consistent and publish a new video every week.

I think it's a great book if you don't think too much about what your told and just accept it. If you have a critical mind and base everything on the scientific method then you'd probably throw it in the bin (like I did). It's no surprise to me that it's been roasted by the scientific , fact , evidence based community. Most humans don't spend a lot of time in self analysis and critical thinking and the author obviously knows this.

Good book but Agree with Galen Strawson. @4:15 And On some topics, this book is so arrogant. Instead of exploring them seriously, For example, 'Religion'. He blatantly was just spewing hatred for slavery, Religion, and women not having rights that I learned nothing from these chapters.

Prediction: We are at the beginning of an exponential increase in synthesis/interdisciplinary books. Why? "In the twenty-first century, the most important kind of mind will be the synthesizing mind." - Murray Gell-Mann (Nobel Laureate in Physics)
