Hi UA! I thought a gruff wait staff was a NY thing? LOL. When I grew up up in Queens, mostly, it was the local places. They rocked, some were better than others but and deli in a storm. I’m in L.A. now, since 1977 and I am embarrassed to say I’ve yet to go to Langer’s. I tried but it was a Sunday and they were closed! A Jewish deli closed on Sunday?!? Sacrilege! So my favorite and it’s s drive for me, I probably said it before, Brent’s Deli in Northridge. I’d recommend other than a straight up pastrami on rye, as you need to test the basic for consistency. The make their own rye. The rest are bagged local brand breads. Their sign are is The Black Pastrami Reuben. It used to be in a box on the menu but they added a corned beef and turkey variant so it’s just a list of three, now. My favorite soup is their beef and cabbage it’s a Russian style sweet and sour but not too sweet. Their sides are good, no particular favorites. Lemon bar for dessert. Bring a friend and split when you next visit L.A. or a meet and greet. Great video as always, I just finished dinner and I’m hungry. Joe

I went on a tour of New York delis last year and determined that Sarge's Deli was actually the best for a corned beef sandwich, way better than Katz's which is overrated hype. Katz's was very thick sliced and dry, sarge's was thin sliced and juicy, which is the proper way for a sandwich, be it a corned beef, pastrami or a French dip. Also like the fries a lot at Sarge's,very tasty. I know what you mean about the waitress and the service, I could just glimpse that first waitress, but she seemed like the one that I had,very short and surly, I got the impression she's been there a long time. Yes, people drive really fast in the South, have big trucks, and you always get someone who swerves around everyone drive way too fast. However, the thing I noticed is that when I turn the turn signal to change lanes, even in heavy traffic, I have had more people open the lane for me in the South than any other region I have lived. People will also be patient to not honk their horn at every situation (such as if someone has a delay when turning left). The West Coast was the worst experience for me in that when I turned on my turn signal, people in that lane, even if they are far behind will quickly speed up to prevent you from getting in. People often say that the real persona comes out when they drive and if so, the South so far have given me the best experience.

@@islandrepublic9166 80%? Maybe back in the eighties. Not anymore. Most of the restaurants are run by foreigners or yuppies who don't have the nasty attitude anymore. I went all over and most places are friendly. Once in a while, you'll find a dump full of losers with the NYC attitude they think is cool. They're all posers who think they are so cool but no one likes them. I had relatives from there, some who lost everything and had to leave and ask us for money after acting like they were better than us for years.

Another great Deli review UA 👏 Here’s a tip; my late father made his own pickles. You can always tell by colour which the half-sours are. Half-sours are the lighter, brighter green, dill pickles are the darker, khaki colour. Keep up the great work UA!!!

most places have waiters that cover certain sections. it's more convenient for waiters to group people together, makes servicing easier. but that girl's attitude was unwarranted, especially since you weren't being combative and just asking questions. order takeout next time, cuz that's just bad service
@jimoliver535

You seriously asked to move to a different spot? And then wonder about her attitude? Servers have stations. And we gotta pay bills. Don't condescend the person who serves you because you want to move to a different spot to eat the same food -- as a one top at that. You clearly have never waited tables or you'd get why she's irritated. Also... if you know delis (or more importantly Jewish cuisine), you know by color which one the half sour is. Also, you absolutely missed out not getting the fries.... and not for nothing but chocolate is the only right way to do an egg cream. Sarge's is phenomenal. Amazing pastrami and best rye bread in the city. Old school NYC deli with local cred. And the attitude is part of that credibility. You want corporate sterility, there's a Shake Shack just up the block. Guarantee you wouldn't stand in line for a table there though.

So did he end up eating the fly, it sure looks like it? Also thanks for showing the prices so that people know they are only saving a few bucks by not going to Katz although I would pay those few bucks more for the better service. Whenever anyone mentions the Katz prices people comment on those prices like if there is some subway under $10 dollar pastrami option with the same amount of meat available in NYC.

I ate at Sarge's a few months ago and definitely prefer it to Katz's. These comparisons are subjective so there is really no "best". For example Katz's hand sliced pastrami is too thick for my taste and I really like the double fried potatoes at Sarge's. My suggestion is try both if you have the time and can afford the salt and calories.

Reviewers ought to get upset about it on behalf of the business owners. If you care about your business you want staff treating customers well and I’d be furious if my staff treat a regular or one off visitor like that. The whole point of the service industry is to make people feel special and provide them with a great experience.

Sarge's has the #1 pastrami in NYC. Super thin and fatty. Delicious. Also the best banana cream pie - WAYYY better than Magnolia's banana pudding. Also, I think they were trying to segregate you with the seating. Lots of Jewish delis do that. I'm sure if they knew this video was going to get 100,000+ views they'd be nicer, but that's what they get for having an attitude - lots of bad impressions and lost business. Saying things like "OMG" for just a polite, simple request is unacceptable. Especially in this economy where restaurants are struggling for business. It's not hard at all to be nice, yet they insist on being rude. Once your channel really blows up, they will regret it.
