Actually, from 1990 through 95 there was 54 in this bright aqua metallic. 27 in 1992, 9 in 1993, 5 in 1994, and 13 in 1995. The rarest color was dark purple metallic and it was only available in 1995 and only 25 were that color. The only reason I know this is because I researched it heavily and I have a 1995 deep purple metallic ZR1

You’re thinking of turquoise metallic. Yes, there was 113 offered in turquoise metallic but only in 1990 (16) and 1991 (97) for a total of 113. The turquoise metallic wasn’t offered in 1992, 1993, 1994 or 1995.

Great review of the ZR-1! I've had a 1991 Black on Black for 12 years, 34,000 original miles. If you have never driven a first generation ZR-1 in Full Power mode and heard the heavens sundered by the absolutely feral howl of the exhaust above 4,000 RPM , felt the G forces compressing you into the bolstered leather seats as you make seemingly effortless, lightning fast shifts up through the gears while negotiating twisting mountain roads with telepathic ease, then you have missed a truly unique automotive experience. The ZR-1 Corvette represents a special time in American automotive history and is truly the first American super car.

Thanks, Raiti's Rides - You seem very knowledgeable about these rare cars. Good news is, the price point is still (comparatively) low for first generation ZR-1's, you can get a great deal on the surviving examples if you do a little research. The ZR-1 Net Registry is a good source to locate them all over the country. (PS - I drove my ZR-1 to work today and taking a long road trip this weekend ...)

@jamescarson4087

Remarkably, very few. All have been age related issues. 1) Most significant was in 2016 had to have all 32 valve guides and valve seals replaced due to age. That was a major head job. Clue was smoking on startup. 2) Driver's side adjustable seat gears and drive had to be replaced in 2011, worn plastic gears. 3) Windshield wiper control PC board in ECM went bad, simple fix, replaced board from Eckler's Corvette in Florida. 4) All 4 rear tail light housings eventually became loose (stripped screws and holes), replaced all 4 housings and lenses from Eckler's.

I like your videos, but Zora was not the "father" of the Corvette. The "father" of the Corvette was Harley Earl. Zora Arkus-Duntov was the "Godfather" of the Corvette. Zora was the man that pushed the Corvette to be a bad-ass racer, that created the "Corvette mystique". Kepp up the good work! Just a correction on the 1983 corvette. You said they built one and 83 and actually called it at 84. That’s not true. They actually built 40+1983 Corvettes, but they started the production so late and with design problems they knew that they would never produce enough. So after the 40+ that they built, they just decided we’re going to work on it and just build Corvettes for 1984. They actually destroyed all of the Corvettes. They built in 1983 except one and it is still in a museum somewhere. So actually they did build a 1983 Corvette, but time constraints and design problems, etc. got them to discontinue it after about 40 cars were built for 1983 so they regrouped did not produce a 1983 and focussed on building the 1984.

Also only on a ZR1, the corvette littering out back uses raised black lettering. Regular corvettes of the time had engraved lettering in the plastic
@jamescarson4087

Bob O. - That is a great observation, that is one of the few distinguishing features of the ZR-1 aside from the longer doors, wider rear end to accommodate the 11" rear tires and the CHMSL on the roll bar.
@vomErsten
4 жыл бұрын
Not actually true. From 1984 through 1990, the Corvette had its logo applied via a plastic badge on the rear between the tail lamps across all models. When they face-lifted it in 1991, the standard models switched to the engraved logo while the ZR-1 retained the badge until its demise at the end of 1995. The CHMSL up top is also not strictly a feature unique to the ZR-1, all Corvettes from 1986 through 1990 have it. The only reason they didn't move it on the ZR-1 after the 1991 face-lift is because the tooling for the 1990 ZR-1 was brand new and it would have been ridiculous to do so for a low-volume car. It's also for that same reason that they retained the use of the adhesive badge.

Raiti's Rides I’m not trying to be a dick, now or then, but I wasn’t really sharing my perspective I was attempting to have a conversation. You kept referring the ZR1 in a way that suggested you may not be clear on the Fact that “pushrod” doesn’t mean “no cams” and this is a common misconception even in the coments many comments say similar things suggesting that the camshaft came tosave the day for the ZR1, anyway for those curious figured worth clarifying even pushrods motors have camshafts, it’s just a cam in the block with the valves up top where the cams are on OHC/DOHC motors

Many things can get lost in translation here on the inter web. To be honest I was exhausted and really didn't want to explain how I know that a pushrod engine has a camshaft There is no reason too, because I have nothing to prove.

GM and Lotus jointly designed the engine as GM owned Lotus at the time . Mercury marine assembled the engine as they has lots of experience with aluminum castings and the engine was low volume compared to what GM was used to making. That hood stripe was added by the owner or a previous owner . The factory did not put that stripe on any ZR-1s . Possible that a dealer could have added it . Definitely not factory though . I have a 91 ZR-1 that I’ve had for 13 years. It’s a fun car . If you ever get the chance to drive one or go for a ride in one , don’t pass it up.

I really enjoy your content and presentation style. One constructive criticism though. Get a cheap clip on mic for audio. The audio quality is holding you back from making this channel as good as it can be. No offense intended. Keep on rocking. Good video.

P I thank you so much for your awesome feedback. I have listened and have purchased all new gear. So you will see the transition which has all ready started with some of my recent videos I’ve uploaded. The problem is I still have footage I’m proud of that I recorded with the old gear and want to share it. You are 100% correct and I appreciate your support. Please stay tuned for more!😊👍🏻

Raiti's Rides no worries. Just want to see your channel do well. As a future video idea, how about the new Miata coming out this fall with a little more power? Maybe a driver's car showdown featuring a Miata and one of the 86 twins. Thanks!

They delayed it because they were having problems sorting it out for production, and they delayed it so long that the rules changed so it made more sense to label it an MY84 and certify it only once.

I always thought the first year 90 ZR1 were cool. They were the only ZR1 to have the "original" C4 front end & square dash. They also had the old style swirl wheels and only 375 hp--as did some other years but I THINK 90s are the most valuable? Am I correct?
@RaitisRides
6 жыл бұрын
The 1990 ZR1 is my favorite! For1990 though they got ride of the square fully digital dash. The 1990's ZR1s are still pretty low in the depreciation cycle. You can get a really good one for $25k

Jay, from what I have heard the 1990 ZR-1 is destined to be very collectible and the values are already going up.
@vomErsten

The 1990 ZR-1s (or even the regular 1990 Corvettes) do not have the square dash, only the prototype press cars that they demoed in 1989 had those. The actual ones you can buy have the first face-lift with the 4-spoke wheel, airbag, grey plastics, and orange labels. But they do still have the original front clip, side vents, and my favorite styling feature: the black rub strip going around the belt-line. I have a 1990 ZR-1 myself, and wouldn't accept any other year.

You didn't mention the square(ish) tail lights! That's the easiest way to tell if it's a ZR-1, regular Vettes have round tail lights.

Kevin, thats cause they were fudged, you gotta make an $18,000 engine option a WANTED add on, or things don't sell. Thats the ket to 1st & 2nd year runs on sports cars.
@kevindavis5966
4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Fair Are you implying there was a conspiracy between multiple independent reviewers to lie for GM in their reporting of the performance of this car year one? Because that’s the only way a discrepancy like that could have happened if the numbers were “fudged”. I’d also have to see some additional examples of sports cars that got slower as the model years progressed in order to even begin to believe your theory.
