While car shopping a couple years ago I drove a Giulia, the current 330i, and current C300. The Giulia was easily the best handling car of the three, and felt more like a sports car than a sport sedan. The suspension is very well sorted in the Guila. BMW and MB can certainly learn a thing or two from Alfa. That said, the car is reasonably quick for what it is and has higher absolute limits than the competition I've driven. HOWEVER, unless someone is driving on some really aggressive, curvy roads often, the difference in handling isn't noticeable, certainly at legal speeds.

Alfa Romeo is not for everyone: it's for romantic people and persons that appreciate authenticity, pedigree, sporty engineering, and driver-centricity. The handling and steering sensation that the Giulia (Veloce) provides is unrivalled. The 'cruel' thing is that most consumers have a more pragmatic mindset, giving priority to other car "ingredients", which means that brands that focus on the mainstream take bigger market shares. To me, comparing a Genesis with an Alfa is a bit like comparing a lab-produced set of phenols and tannines that mimic the taste and flavour of a château-crafted and aged wine with a real Grand Cru. No offense to Genesis drivers, but there are Alfa values that money can't buy! Loved your enthusiasm in this video, Joe!

Something about the Giulia (and the Stelvio) i really cannot wrap my head around, 6 years past its launch, is why the hell at Alfa Romeo's they've never felt the need to enrich the lineup with something to fill the gap between the 280hp 2.0L and the 510hp QF. Hard to explain, knowing there's a 3.0L v6, in 2 power setups - 330/420hp - nice & ready to be borrowed by its parent company Maserati. And no one could have claimed that it would be downgraded versions of the Quadrifoglio's v6, cause it' a totally different engine.

I bought my Giulia Ti Sport AWD about 6 months ago and I cross shopped the G70 3.3T AWD and A4 2.0T Quattro. I was able to drive all 3 of them. The A4 was fun, but felt slower than the other 2, infotainment was excellent but there was little driver feedback when pushing it, plus there are so many A4s in my area, just a lack of flair and design. The G70 was an excellent car, fastest in a straight line, good infotainment, nice finishes, good looking car. Depending on what you are looking for, I can see the G70 checking off more boxes than the other 2. But for me, she was heavy, which pushed the brakes harder, and the steering wheel felt completely disconnected. The Giulia felt faster than what the papers say, I later found that out to be true once I owned it for a bit. The Giulia was just simply better at handling and driving, it's hard to explain "driver experience" to those who haven't driven it, is just better, period. I drove the Giulia 3rd and once I did I never looked at the other 2 again. If you want a true sports sedan that you can daily go with the Giulia, if you want a comfortable, better optioned, quick accelerating daily then by all means go with the G70.

Great observations. I'm fortunate to have both a newish A5 and newish Guila and I agree with your observations. To me, the A5 is more balanced with luxury and performance while the Guila is more focused on driving feel. The A5 trans is simply better than the ZF8 when driving aggressively. I don't think the steering in the Guila is anything great post-2019, so I don't see much of a gap there if any TBH. The Alfa feels faster than the Audi stock (and it is). It depends on what someone's priorities are. For me these days, if I had to pick 1, I prefer a more balanced package of the Audi. MSRP the Alfa was more than the A5 (both loaded), which makes absolutely no sense. IMO the extra driving feedback in the Alfa in no way justifies the extra cost over the Audi considering how much more equipment the Audi has.
@jamesjacko8546
2 жыл бұрын
@@darrell9616 it really does come down to preference, clearly the Germans have a knack for creating an overall liveable sports sedan, great tech, good finish, just great cars. I've never driven an A5 but I assume it's similar-ish to the 4. As far as cost, I think there are couple things at play, one is scale and the Audi just has better mechanisms to drive cost down in the manufacturing process and the Alfas are lower volume. The other thing depends on the options equipment, the A4 and my Alfa were pretty close in price, Alfa was more, however, the Alfa came standard with 6 piston front brakes, A4 had 4 piston I believe, the Alfa came standard with a carbon fiber driveshaft, A4 did not, and Alfa was optioned with a LSD and don't recall the A4 as having that, Alfa had a dual panel sunroof, A4 had a single panel. Some of these may be trivial but it does add cost.

@@jamesjacko8546 My Guila had a MSRP of 59K while the A5 was 54 or 56 (can't remember). It would take a while for me to list everything the A5 has that the Guila doesn't. Let's just say that it's a very long list. There was exactly one time on a very aggressive drive where I felt the difference between the AWD Guila and the AWD A5. The Guila stayed balanced through the hairpin turn and rotated, while the A5 experienced mild understeer until I let off the throttle and allowed the rear end to come around. I haven't experienced a situation yet where I noticed the LSD. I think the LSD is absolutely mandatory on the RWD car, but I'm not so sure with the AWD version.
@jamesjacko8546
2 жыл бұрын
@@darrell9616 I would have to look side by side to really pass judgement, I'm certain that a LSD and CF driveshaft would be a good more expensive than some of the Audis added bits, but I'm not saying that with any true data to back it up. It goes back to scale, I think that Audi can just offer more at the same price. What I will say is that when i was shopping there was more wiggle room on the Alfa during negotiations, so maybe you could get some back. In the end, I'm happy with my decision and don't regret not buying the Audi or Genesis, I just have more fun in the Alfa, plus it's an Alfa.

The acceleration and handling in the G70 is pretty surprising for the segment that it’s in…and that was my experience after driving the CT5V (non Blackwing) and Tlx type s…that and also the other brands wanted $70K and $65K respectively! Genesis was willing to negotiate to $57K, which actually is still above what I’ve read others have paid but not by much. I am so impressed with it! You all need to test drive the G70 especially the 3.3 twin turbo RWD sport prestige model…it’ll surprise you!!!

I still have my 1981 GTV-6, and a 1985 Spyder and a M-3 BMW the last 3 are track cars but, I have driven the Giulia on Track at VIR just for fun, as I use it as my daily driver.(I did get her up to 140 mph :) Alfa Romeo really knows how to build a car. The handling is wonderful. On my maiden "voyage" with the new Giulia I. took a road trip from Savannah, GA to Oklahoma. Via Texas. When I got to Texas on a wonderful twisty road, I pushed the pedal to the metal...the cornering is fantastic. So much fun to drive.

Is there some buzz about Alfa Romeo pulling out of the US again?
@edwarddejong8025
2 жыл бұрын
Alfa Romeo doesn't advertise it, but this engine has the patented "MultiAir" intake valve control system. It is less complex than the 2-cam Honda VTEC technology, and because they can move the intake valves so fast, under computer control via hydraulic fluid (no cam), it delivers over 10% miles per gallon over conventional dual overhead cam engines. It's a proven system (provided you change engine oil regularly). This a very good mileage car for a sports sedan. Fiat in their Torino labs invented common rail diesel and multi-air, and after getting beaten so badly by the germans which licensed their diesel tech, this time Fiat is not letting other companies use their MultiAir technology. It's a big advantage for Alfa. Since most consumers don't understand fancy engine technology, Fiat doesn't advertise it all, but it has less moving parts than the Honda/Acura VTEC engine, and can adjust intake valve based on temperature, altitude, etc., something that a cam system cannot do.
@a200tq1

Oh, cmon...Nobody cares about it here, in the US. Also, nobody cares about the suspension which was developed by the same team who developed the Ferrari Enzo suspension, Brembo 4-pistons brakes, carbon prop shaft, sophisticated air-to-water intercooler system, and many more. Everybody cares about how big is the screen, how many screens, how many USB sockets, how many buttons are on the center console, and so on. A very few care about 0-60 times (and 99.9% of times you accelerate with the speed of the rusted f150 in front of you). Handling, braking, body roll, weight distribution, understeering, oversteering...WTF is that??? AutoNation!
