The screen being the only screen on the market to reach 616ppi is incredible in itself. The buttons are responsive and the sound awesome. Plays all gba, gbc, and gb games with the option to use the SD card for laser precise emulation on what it plays. Overall a real premium device for any retro gamer supporting both cartridges and emulation. No device on the market can provide that. I have the red cherry Starburst version 😆. I also have the rg405 m. When it come to accurate emulation the pocket wins hands down.

Worth EVERY penny. I didn't think it was expensive at all for its quality, what it can do and the Quality of FPGA Hardware Emulation which is a lot better than software emulation. They're selling Mini Consoles and mini-PCs for $130. This can run ALL those $100 to $130 consoles/PCs games better than the minis, has a built-in high-quality screen, can be docked to a TV and only cost $100 more.

However many Anbernics include an hdmi port and here it’s another $100 accessory and that just hurts considering my Anbernic was $40 all in. This is truly for people wanting perfect emulation, to use physical carts esp with integrated sensors, or to play in competitions. This is also less pocketable, though maybe more comfortable depending on the Anbernic model.

@MetalKingdomOfHammer I've always wondered about people min/maxing about emulation. I guess I've just always been content about how my games run. Or maybe I just haven't experienced such a good difference that makes me care. Maybe I should upgrade to see if I actually do care.
@MetalKingdomOfHammer
Ай бұрын
@@Willocalypse I owned one of these briefly. It felt more engaging than an emulator device but I can’t pinpoint why. The difference certainly isn’t tangible but I think it’s there.. but the price, convenience and ability to play more systems on the emulator devices is ultimately why I kept that. The low price also means I can toss it in my bag or pocket without a case and not care as much which means it’s easier to bring everywhere. The 4:3 aspect ratio I got is also more “middle-ground” between GB and GBA vs being more committed to original gameboy at the expense of gba. My 3.5” 4:3 gives me 3”2/16 on GB and 3”5/16 on GBA

@dunnono00
2 ай бұрын
Unless you have money to burn, then no, it's not worth it. The aluminum one is $500 bucks, which is only $50 less then a 512 Deck OLED. You can emulate up to PS2 on Deck, and also have a robust PC library thanks to the Steam and GOG store fronts. It makes no sense to buy an AP from a financial perspective. But again, if money isn't tight for you, then who cares? Buy the aluminum pocket. I have a regular one and it's a pretty decent portable device - not perfect by any means, but it's my only emulation device and it works well enough.

I'm not sure why there is a year attached the question. The AP is only capable of playing anything 20-25-ish or more years old and will be revalent for a long time. I looked into getting a NES, SNES, looked in to doing HDMI mods and getting Everdrive flash carts. Just the NES alone could be over $500 itself. I looked into the MiSTer too but that alone cost $500-$700 easily, however, MiSTer FPGA is branching into PS1, Sega Saturn and N64, systems that the AP just can't do. With their upcoming FPGA N64 clone, they wouldn't be making a pocket capable of N64 any time soon. Yeah the AP only can do save states for a few cores, but if you were to get a real SNES and bring it to the modern age, you wouldn't either. There is a community driven handheld FPGA device in the works but it won't match the AP. There is the FPGA GameBoy Color from Funny Playing that looks pretty cool. As an owner of IPS modded GB, GBC and GBA, the AP is hands down the best option and cheaper that all three. I also have 2x 8bitdo controllers of SNES, NeoGeo, Sega Saturn and PC Engine. The SNES are originally for original SNES but they can be flashed to work directly with the AP Dock. The Sega Saturn and PC Engine style controllers can but then you lose the ability to use them via USB adapters or wired on other systems. I would say it you are a stickler for accuracy, AP all the way. If you're not too concerned with accuracy and was to play games on CD systems like Sega CD through Wii, then there are some nice emulation handhelds for $150 to $200-ish.

And if you don't agree with those people, you're allowed and more than welcome to feel that way! Also, I don't even know how bot accounts work, or if that's even possible on KZitem. To be honest, unless you are specifically using one the Analogue special features, like making music for example, I genuinely don't think it's worth it. You can buy and refurbish a GBA with a new shell, buttons, an IPS screen, and a USB C Mod, and buy an FPGBC (Basically a new GBC in 2024 that uses the same system that Analogue uses with the pocket) all from FunnyPlaying for less than the price of the Pocket, all while guaranteeing that the color ways and such are always in stock.
@RAHelllord
6 ай бұрын
The Pocket would still be less hassle, though (assuming they're in stock...) and unlike the FP GBC emulation on the Pocket is currently a lot more bug free. Personally for me the draw was mostly the ability to have everything in one device and then be able to play it on the go or on TV seamlessly by just docking it. Also sadly the USB-C mods are still pretty questionable as the charging circuit usually ends up directly sandwiched to the battery, which is not good for the cell with the heat development during charging. Though for example the frog boy color does that much better, as does the FP FPGA GBC, so I'm hoping GBA mods can follow suit at some point, too. Surely there's enough space in the shell to move the charging circuit elsewhere.

Its true, i bought one two months ago. One of the limited edition models with color. The D-Pad is hard and has missclicks on diags, otherwise its a nice handheld..def overpriced though.

I have the og release model and mine still works great, granted, I use it on the dock more than handheld mode so that's probably why

It's only worth it if you're a dedicated collector. If you're just someone who wants to play games, then it's not even close to being worth it. Even if you're a collector, have dealing with Analouge's anti-consumer purchasing process and scalpers. It's such a shame too, because it is an amazing piece of hardware.

It's not 10 times the resolution of the original game boy, but 100 times (10 x 10).

It's always out of stock, so I can't determine if it's worth buying since they've decided it's no longer worth selling.

No. You can't buy it on official store. So the only option will be scalpers. Analogue is the worst gaming company in terms of customer service. It's limited and underpowered asf. I don't give a damn about fpga and how it's being hyped as the second coming of jesus. An RP3 plus, AyN odin 2 and other newer retro emulation handhelds are far more capable and powerful. You can stream games, browse web, play videos, music and far widef selection of more powerful consoles to emulate. Even Switch and windows games can be emulated now. If you really want to play those old cartridges, get a modded gameboy. Heck, there's an alternative FPGA handheld right now that is out.

If you want to play GameBoy and GBC stuff, there are many options out there for far less money. RGB30 comes to mind.

@@waltlock8805It had a really good screen dimension for those games. Even the miyoo mini plus can be a better option. I can pretty much emulate the DMG and CRT shaders with tinkering on retroarch. So I just don't care that much of Analogue's high ppi screen. Analogue's screen and FPGA gimmick are cool. But the amount of money and trouble they're asking for in return is just not worth it.

None of the GBA or GBC mods come close to the quality of the display and speakers in the Pocket, and the delta is even bigger for the other systems supported via adapter. The draw for analogue systems are not how powerful they are or how many other things they can do, it's all about the premium crap like the display, extremely low input latency and the ease of use. Why would "can browse the internet, play music/ videos" even matter for a gaming device? You have a phone that's easier to hold and does the same stuff, not everything needs Spotify and KZitem support to be worth consideration.

@@RAHelllord Oh wow, display and speakers. I'm sure that's worth more than the ability to play 3ds, ds,playstation, switch, ps2, gamecube,wii and even pc games. You overhype those stuff as if it's the second coming of jeebus lmao. No. That beautiful screen is limited on under-powered systems. With the exception of neo geo which is admittedly a 2d beast. "Why would "can browse the internet, play music/ videos" even matter for a gaming device? You have a phone that's easier to hold and does the same stuff, not everything needs Spotify and KZitem support to be worth consideration." Because I want to save my phone's battery. It's still better to have those options than not have anything at all. Specially if you want to browse for roms or play for retro achievement. Internet also allowed emulators like citra and other consoles for multiplayer without using a puny cable. There's also this thing called game streaming lmao.
