I bought it as a total newbie to recording and the appreciation for the product grew as my knowledge has. I have to remind myself to slow down and also be a musician and writer at times, but the tech from UA is second to none and keeps me working toward more personal goals for production. All in all, my Twin X is a small investment, considering. I don't think it will be long before I add an Apollo Quad, or Rack in with them.

That’s great. It can be a great tool with or without the plugins, but once you get into getting your tones on the way in and focusing on getting great performances it’s powerful. Thanks for the comment and watching! Chris

If that were true, UAD wouldn't merge with other companies like Brainworx/Plugin Alliance.

Especially with the M1 MacBook Pros I would say it’s becoming obsolete and UAD will just release its plugins to the public soon

You might be right about them putting out their plug-ins to the public. Especially with them putting out that new volt interface. It could be the first step
@tuneunleashed

@@HomeStudioRescue Bam! Now you’re reading my mind! That Volt interface says it all! I know they’ve realized this. Software Plugins will indeed catch up to UAD plugins in no time. I almost went with an Apollo X4 but I got myself the RME Babyface Pro FS just because of this. UAD is just a reputable brand at this point. People go for the brand and the looks that’s all they go for.

You’re right about UA being a reputable company. I think a lot of people are just buying the name. Some people I’ve talked to don’t even know why they should buy an Apollo, they think they need to because everyone is talking about it

@@HomeStudioRescue I originally bought it because of UAD Console (low latency monitoring while recording and recording with plugins) and getting access to using UAD plugins. I currently rarely use the 1000$ of UAD plugins I bought because I have bought plugins that are just as good and don’t have the usability limitations (must use UAD outboard CPU) and found that you don’t need UAD console to record with plugins (Cubase and most daws have this ability, though with a little latency). Though it’s fun to record with effects, there isn’t necessary to commit to plugins when recording, in fact it’s better not to to be able to not commit to a possible mistake. I would have saved a lot of money if I had bought another interface. The Apollo Twin is great, but it is oversold in my opinion.

I understand where you’re coming from. I don’t really think it’s worth it if you’re not gonna record through the plug-ins. I’ve owned UAD plug-ins for a long time and I didn’t really feel like I got the full use out of them until I got in Apollo. I don’t think it’s the end-all and be-all, I tried recording through plug-ins before and it never really worked out until I got the Apollo. You can make mistakes though recording in real time. Sometimes I over compress or give something too much sizzle. The whole DSP thing is a drag. I think I can say pretty honestly that if you’re not going to record through the plug-ins the whole UAD thing isn’t really worth it. You’re also right that a lot of the plug-ins out there are just as good, not if better. The only thing I will say though is I replaced my distressor and Pacifica preamps with the Apollo and don’t regret getting rid of that stuff at all. It replaced $2500 worth of hardware. I’m really enjoying recording vocals through it. It’s definitely not right for everyone though. Thank you for the comment and sharing your experience with it. Definitely food for thought. A lot of people look at the Apollo like if only I had this and I think for most home studios, it’s probably not worth it.

Yes, the preamps are good clean quality for vocals. The true value comes from using the plugins while recording. If you aren’t going to do that than I would go with a cheaper interface.

For me it’s using the vocal compression on the way in. And effects. I think it helps to have something for the singers to sing into, even if you don’t record the effects
