The mid tier upgrade actually costs a grand less than what Luke paid for his iMac Pro 5K! At that price, its a value. Some people would want to keep the difference in their pocket. And because modern Macs can’t be upgraded after market, it makes sense to buy the specs you think you might need later now than be stuck with the base model that doesn’t anticipate possible future needs. If you’re going to keep your Mac with you, an upgrade won’t hurt and if you do sell it, it will hold its value well.

@@paullynch4021 yes I do. This new 16" is finally a good MacBook again. I am loving mine. With a real power button and escape key, the touch bar is even growing on me. I got the 8 core i9/1TB SSD SKU rather than the entry one, but the entry one is a 6 core i7 and 512GB SSD, and would also make a damn fine computer. My only reservation on recommending it is actually that it won't run newer OS X than Catalina, which means if you rely on any 32bit software (such as Aperture), adjusting to Catalina can be a painful chore. In my case this laptop is a secondary machine to my desktop Mac Pro, so the forced Catalina upgrade is a dry run, but if you use a MacBook as your main computer, be aware of the 32 bit software deprecation in Catalina.

I would at the very least upgrade to 1 TB storage, which brings the total to $2379. for $220 more, or $2599, I can get the 2.3Ghz 8 core i9 processor, same 16GB RAM, 1TB of storage, AND better graphics with the Radeon Pro 5500M. Tempting, but I think I would still go with the base MBP and upgraded storage as I only do photography and very little video work.

I'm glad I found your channel. I loved this review. I'm upgrading from a 2014 13 inch baseline MacBook Pro to the 16 inch which is gonna be like night and day. I'm most likely gonna get the base model and get the RAM and graphics upgrades.

This new model isexactly what I wanted, minus the SD card slot which is never coming back. Unfortunately my 2012 MBP Retina still runs perfect (except for battery life of course) so guess I’ll go another few years.

I'm trading in my 2018 MBP for one of these because I'm just fed up with the keyboard. Whenever I type the letter A, I have to look and see if there are one, two, or three A's on the screen. I can't believe the company with the best laptop speakers and trackpad in the industry stuck with this abomination for four years, but I'm just glad it's over and we can finally move on.

Well, too late. I went back to Windows after 13 years of Mac. I got a screaming laptop for $1,350, and windows 10 isn’t too bad.

Nice… I scored a maxxed out late 2013 a1398 Intel i7 quad core dedicated graphics MacBook Pro on eBay for the unheard of sum of $425! These typically go for $600-900 in mint condition so it was a cool find. I’m guessing here the rest of the specs on your 16 inch has a 2.4 GHz Intel I9 core processor with turbo boost up to 5.0 GHz, 32 GB of 2666 MHz DDR memory, Radeon Pro graphics 5000 with 8GB GDDR6 memory and 2TB SSD along with Final Cut and Logic Pro software for a grand total of $4000. A hefty Apple tax for a mid tier upgrade if one wants a screamer machine with the horsepower to match and plenty of storage. My dream MacBook Pro! I’ll stick with my late 2013 because I’d have to take out a small mortgage to get a modern MBP with a custom configuration.

i have a late 2013 13 inch macbook pro as tempting as this machine is i think, i'll wait till apple refreshes the entire lineup because paying 2609 € (for the base config) is a hard pill to swallow. I'm happy they finally went back on the keyboard. I'm for sure going to upgrade next year

I haven't upgraded my main Mac because of lack of USB A adapters on the new ones, I am a dongle allergic kind of individual so, yeah, will rock the 2015 one I believe... until it dies

I’m going to say you’ve ordered the config I’m awaiting :) MBP 16” 2.4 i9, 64GB RAM, 2TB 5500M 8GB Space Grey. And yes for me this is going to be a massive massive upgrade from my non-retina 2012 15” :) Roll on December 2nd (UK)!

Not commonly used, but yes, it is still called that. In this case, I was referring to a lavalier microphone.

if you want the biggest display the best option is the macbook 17" mid 2010 (2010 because it is without gpu bug)

My Guess --- 16" - 2.3 8 core, Core i9 (Turbo 4.8) ( not worth the upgrade on the CPU ) - 64GB RAM -( This config will actually run faster as it will run in Quad Channel ) Radeon 5500M w/ 8GB GDDR6 Memory - 2TB Storage ( might as well get a little extras space

I was extremely bummed out when my 13” 2015 retina mbp broke last week because I was waiting for the inevitable 14” version! I never really wanted a 15”, because I like the portability of the smaller form factor! But when I saw how expensive a 13” with at least 16gb of ram and a 512gb ssd is, the 16” seemed reasonably priced and I just went for it with the student discount. Thanks, mate for taking away my regrets! I am looking forward to all the new possibilities with this machine when it is finally here!

@@NilsBellarts Honestly, it's fine! I'm really liking the added screen real estate and picking up a 13" laptop now is just surreal! The upgrade was totally worth it! If you can afford it and want better specs, go for the 16" instead of an upgraded 13"! Or wait around for what Apple will bring with the 14" later this year...

@C Pryme went with the base model. I mostly do photography editing in Lightroom and photoshop, and also some minor video editing as well in Final Cut Pro X. The base model is pretty solid to be honest, more than enough power for my use.

Steve Jobs once said, "Apple does not ship junk" when asked about cheaper MacBooks. I feel that from 2013 onwards, they only sold junk...until now! This is by FAR the best MacBook they've released in terms of quality to price ratio since Steve Jobs' passing.

Please tell us what specs we need on mb pro for regular working professionals? Like, not editing videos? ... Like me... I'll be running several Microsoft office programs (especially word docs with dozens of jpegs each) and very many chrome tabs, lots of screenshots open but not fancy editing (just underlining and drawing boxes), and many Google drive/docs/sheets/Gmail tabs open ... All concurrently, and running Samsung DeX as a virtual desktop, probably with 2-3 monitors. Sometimes music in the background and sometimes watching videos to gather information. ... Should I spec out for that?

No it is meant to READ fingerprints not attract them. If your button attracts prints and leaves a perfect impression it opens itself to potential security vulnerability.
