Introducing the "Daddy Hack" Drill. We are incredibly excited about this progression after seeing numerous guys jump in velo directly after. Finding the glute, riding the hinge & rotating into landing is foreign to a lot of pitchers, but they (almost) all can do it when they swing.
What if we backwards chained that forward move, which is fundamentally the same as pitching?🤔
Here's what pitchers implicitly do when cued to take a "daddy hack":
✅Move forward while staying back
✅Ride the center
✅Find the glute, hinge and rotate
✅Stay stacked over a stable back foot
So this is interesting, but can you really transfer it to a throw? So far, the answer seems to be a resounding "yes," with over 70% of athletes that we intervened with (guys who don't hinge) seeing quick & significant velo bumps (2-5 mph).
This seems to work as a teaching shortcut by taking a pattern that many athletes already have and helping them translate that feel on a downhill plane with a ball vs. a bat.
