I've done many track days w/ an M2 Comp and about to start tracking an M4cs, and the rotors are really better than most people think. The issue really lies in the brakelines and (somewhat) the pads - you can tell by the excessive break dust thrown off. I put 40k miles on said M2 and 4 track days before changing out the rotors (30k for pads)and it was perfectly fine. Braided breaklines are the best fix for this as well as a more aggressive pad. StopTech makes good ones as does G-Loc. Thoughts :)

i guess youre just too gentle with your breaks :) if you will chase times and will abuse stock f8x brakes you will understand why every track guy change em, i defintely will not recommend stop tech pads they tend to crack when being abused, trust me endless is way better, also next time you will change your front rotors go for gyro discs (not best option) but way better, at least because of floating center and also price friendly. Also look for ebc rotors. Since day you will upgrade you will have much more confidence in brakes.

One caveat to this is that M3/M4 brakes are actually smaller than 2019+ M2 comp brakes. Believe M3/M4 are 330mm and the 2NH brakes on the M2 comp are 380mm. As such people often buy used M2 comp or M2 CS brakes to retrofit onto their f80/f82 M3 and M4s.

Steering is hyrdralic and really feels good in e9x platform, it actually does have electric help, thats why its possible to get it "tuned" if you buy Evolve ecu upgrade. Really worth it. Do you run any ecu/steering upgrade?

What’s the difference once you tune the steering?

I don't think it has electronic help, but it may have electronic adjustment of the hydraulic steering, is that what you meant?

Are you sure you had the same pad materials in the e9x setup as the F80 setup? Seeing as both types of discs are drilled, the only other major factor that would change how much dust is produced is the pad material (assuming you're driving it in the same manner). My M3 has the stock discs, just fitted Ferrodo DS 2500s to the rear, got a set for the front too, just waiting for the new discs (still e9x). That's got to be a fair bit better than the stock pads! (I do a few track days a year, I know the above won't match a BBK (which I can't afford), but if it gives me a few laps on each session, and not cook the pads,I'll be happy!). PS Mine's a manual too :)
@ThicWhips

They are actually the exact same pads. Ebc red ceramics. F8x brakes are notorious for bad dust, it was too be expected tbh

@@ThicWhips ok, good to know, thanks 👍, but that's very weird, I don't understand how different discs can make so much more brake dust, is the disc a lot more abrasive??
@ThicWhips

Different discs, but more importantly different calipers, more bite, etc
@Assimilator1
Жыл бұрын
@@ThicWhips I doubt it would be down to the calipers tbh, if you're braking the same then you're providing the same brake effort, and the pads are bigger would wear less, last longer and make less dust. Must be just down to the discs then!

Brake dust is annoying but just use ceramic pads. The dust that comes off of that is minimal.

It really depends. I think both are very good. Dct for the daily and manual for the weekends is sorta ideal. Clutch pedals just get annoying in daily traffic
