New housing drives the economy in some many different ways... Why do you think they track it monthly. When people build houses, they take loans, pay insurance and taxes, buy materials and employ people... that doesn't take into all the stuff you buy for a house to furnish it and maintain it. And all those peoplele are profiting from those purchases compared to a person that stays in a little 600 square foot apartment.

@jagslab

@@incawarrior5470 You can inflate debt away. But it is true that the government is not inflating the debt away. We’re adding debt faster than the rate of inflation so our debt burden is actually getting worse despite inflation. @incawarrior5470

@@jagslab How are you going to inflate the debt away? Money is created through commercial banks issuing debt. That debt needs to be paid back + interest... The only way you could inflate the debt away is if you could "print" money without any debt attached to it - that does not occur in the current dollar system. One of the interesting aspects about this system is that there is always more debt than base money, which causes a constant dollar shortage. Deflation is a natural result of increasing productivity, there is nothing inherently scary about it. It is only scary when it is the result of a credit bubble collapsing. Credit bubbles which the fed unnecessarily creates because they are unwilling to accept that we live in an economy with slowing growth. A problem exacerbated by their bubbles that increase wealth inequality and make it so people can't afford to have families. So they are in a constant cycle of having to borrow exponentially more prosperity from the future to sustain diminishing prosperity in the present. In anything the fed being comfortable with lower inflation and even some deflation is the least scary thing because it means the fed finally understands and are willing to do what is necessary to have a healthy and sustainable economy. Kind of glossed over the Ponzi scheme aspect implied in the video title, and only briefly mentioned...., would've liked to hear a deeper explanation and evidence to support that claim. As it appears all aspects of stock or commodity trading has a "ponzi-scheme" aspect (i.e. recruitment of new victims & exploitation of those at the bottom to support those at the top). The question remains. "Is the fed running a ponzi scheme?"
@MrSupernova111
2 жыл бұрын
I think the implication is that the average homebuyer is the victim as institutions horde real estate and drive up prices and leave the average homebuyer holding empty bags. This is assuming the average consumer can afford a home after institutions have driven up prices sky high. EDIT: The fed has purchased trillions worth of mortgage debt while they have kept the fed funds rate at historic lows for over a decade. That's the mechanism institutions use to corner the housing market and pull the rug from under the feet of the average American. The party ends now. Its anyone's guess what happens to the housing market next.

Of course they are. I believe the housing market is definitely a Ponzi Scheme. Those who got in early to buy homes have much greater value and ownership because the prices started out cheaper and those down stream are now buying homes at 30 times the price of when they started building them etc. The newer buyers support and enrich the early investors and you need more and more buyers who earn more and more to support the system.

He says crypto should be uncorrelated with IR markets. But there is so much leveraged buying in these markets. That is one of the reasons we see huge runs despite the massive market caps. A lot of exchanges and brokers allow for leverage, sometimes 3-4x. On the up slope this is great but as markets tighten, and IR continues to increase, that leverage will have to be massively scaled back Very interesting interview though. I like listening to Dan on Macro. I totally agree, we do not live in a free market system at all. Financial markets are propped up to the hill and have been since 2008. Neoliberalism is a terrible term as it suggest we have limited government, we do not. The CB buys everything
