What are the continuing hours you can use the machine before it needs a rest? Because you can definitely help some people out with it. Curious about ventilation.?
@FoPar1969
10 ай бұрын
I haven't found anything about the work load time... there is no recommended ratio of works vs rest. It has a built in chiller that kicks on when needed and keeps the machine and nozzle cool. Ventilation is a real concern as it defiantly puts a lot of stuff up into the air around you. So I will always use a respirator. I'm in the process of redoing a number of things in my shop and adding down draft vents with filters and a heavy duty fan are on the list.

@FoPar1969

@@rickbusch7911yes far, far less of a mess. I have sandblasted before and it gets very messy and blasting media gets everywhere when the part is too big for a blasting cabinet. I shot this video of cleaning the cab floors and you can see the little bit of burnt debris blowing around on the floor but that's it. The wind that day blew most of it away. kzitem.info/news/bejne/t3yGxWiBemugaHY

I've never seen or heard of such a machine, I'll be looking into this for myself. Put a link up in your description where you found this. Also I see what looks like etching on your concrete, maybe you can suggest what kind of backing you find works for you or maybe doing this on the grass or hanging in the air? Another thing is those lines left, do they go away when you cross over the other direction? you certainly can not paint over that.
@FoPar1969
9 ай бұрын
I hadn't either until I stumbled across a KZitem video years ago when these machines were still $50K I thought it was a prank or scam but I looked into it more and found out they were a real thing. And yes I am still new at running one of these things and the video we put up is truly our first time running it so we need to slow down a little and also go back the other direction as you suggested for a better surface. In the end sheet metal still may require a little light sanding to be ready for paint. I plan on doing most of the cleaning outdoors over a gravel surface (weather permitting) but I also have an old home made sand blasting cabinet that is a perfect back drop as well. I chopped off the legs so it sits down low and removed the front and lid. I also put large caster wheels on it so I can move it where ever needed.

I want one of these sooooo bad! I would love to start a business doing all kinds of stuff with a machine like this. I wonder if a portable generator could power this thing?
@FoPar1969

I believe you can but it will have to have a 220 outlet and I think I read that it will also need a voltage regulator. I've been researching a ton about these so I could have my info mixed up but that's what I'm remembering. I'm finding out that the clean dry air is the bigger issue so I have mine shut down until I can sort out a few things.

I also have a laser, what is key is the perfect distance from the head to the surface, if you do not have a perfectly flat surface then a large beam is less effective. A large beam also become less effective because you are spreading the power out much further. Do you have a link to the machine you are using? We have a pulse laser currently but are looking at purchasing a CW as well Thanks

that was fun and educational. :) that said, a piece of advice. it seems you have volume auto-adjustment enabled on your mic, which means it turns the gain up when you're not talking, and then the first part of your speech is way loud until it dials the gain down to normal levels. generally to fix this you'll wanna visually inspect the sound curve of your final video and either manually shape spikes, or use a compressor plugin

Why is it that nobody ever states the price on anything. If there's an issue do you gotta box it, insure it, and ship it back for a grand?
@FoPar1969
9 ай бұрын
The pricing is all over the place on these things as is the quality from my research. I've seen them as low as $1,500 all the way up to $50,000 or even more. The dealer I bought it through also cut me a deal as I bought it at the end of the year. So I don't know if that pricing will stay there. As for shipping it back yes I would have to pay. I bought mine through Lasers Only in NJ.

How is the final texture of the metal once you're done with it compared to traditional methods?
@FoPar1969
7 ай бұрын
It really depends on the type of metal and how far the rust has gone. Also if your cleaning off paint it tends to leave a little bit of a texture. For the most part it's just removing the surface that's not metal. When I've hit bare clean metal it doesn't really do anything. Unlike other methods they tend to remove some metal no matter what.

Curious how bad the fumes are, does it become a dominant smell in the workspace? How much does the respirator help?
@FoPar1969
8 ай бұрын
The fumes depend on what you are going over. Just rusty metal it's not too bad but paint and grease can get pretty stinky. I've added ventilation to the shop so it's not bad at all in there now. My paint respirator helps a ton, I don't even notice the fumes but the ventilation I added was the biggest help. I will be adding a new video on the ventilation build hopefully soon.

@FoPar1969

On painted surfaces you do have to be aware of it as it basically flash burns the paint but as long as you keep moving it doesn't get very hot. The thicker paints or more layers could be an issue or just take longer.

I've gone back & forth over the same spot several times and the metal is "hot" but nothing crazy. But with a painted surface you do have to be more careful as the paint tends to burn and heat up faster.
