In my case, my company decided to combine 3 departments into one department. Basically they laid off about 15 people across those 3 departments. I decided to volunteer to let go because I refuse to do the job of three departments for the same pay. Also there was favoritism specially the seniors so there was not point to stay.

As someone with a high salary in the industry, the mistake I see noobs making (exactly as I did when I was a noob) is they are not specializing. Even if the job posting says "Cybersecurity Engineer/Analyst" that is not really a job. That's like saying "Scientist". A chemist's job is different from a physicist's. You need to niche down and decide the cert and exp path at the beginning of your journey. And there are several niches that are far more sought after than others.

Since saying most high schoolers know most about information assurance and network security these master degree info sec holders are over paid security+ that don't know anything ans should be down sized

I never saw tech as stable given how much advertising went into tech schools over the last 20 years (even 13 years ago the movie, the intern, stated how hyper competitive it was just to get an internship at google.). Like too many people became tech savvy in a short time and it’s starting to show.
@UnixGuy

it is still competitive to get into google, howeverc what changed is that the tech market has grown exponentially. Demand has increases and tech is now at the core of business

the google courses are fine, I was referring to ‘constantly chasing’ the cheapest classes on udemy and other places ‘just because’

Hi, I've been binge watching your videos, I'm getting a master degree that focus on OT cybersecurity. Your video is easy to understand and beginner friendly! What is your opinion on OT Cybersecurity compared to IT? I'm still debating whether to focus on OT or IT Cybersecurity.
@UnixGuy

OT is just another skill that you can add to your arsenal. The issue is its very niche and limited in terms of opportunity, so I personally wouldn’t exclusively focus on it

Hello UnixGuy, I have a question, which you may or may not see. I have just finished a one year, college course the content of which aligned very heavily with the Cisco CCNA. I have also just been accepted into a 2 year BSc in Network Cybersecurity, which commences at the end of September. I have 2 months of free time between here and the start of my next course and I'm going to complete an industry certificate in that time. I'm considering revising for 6 weeks and then sitting the CCNA exam (I did well on my college course and received a voucher to sit that exam for free should I choose). I have seen your video with your thoughts on the relevance of the CCNA in regards to cybersecurity, my other thought was to do the Google Cybersecurity cert prior to starting the BSc in September to get some light hands on time with some SQL and Python. Ultimately I am pursuing cybersecurity as the end goal. Any thoughts on which cert to do?
@UnixGuy
2 ай бұрын
it looks like the course you signed up is heavily focused on networking so you might benefit from reviewing CCNA. if you decide to do the Google cyber security search that will also be useful. I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Sir, please , i need some advice, I've been wanting to be a pentester for 3 years but it's highly technical , which I don't really mind but it's apparently the most job-scarce field in cybersecurity and i don't know what to do or if its even worth pursuing it
@UnixGuy
3 ай бұрын
it can be a bit scarce and yes it is highly technical. you can study pentesting but also try to combine it with ‘generalist skills’ from this list: kzitem.info/news/bejne/07BmuIBqkaeWYHYsi=-TixvS4ZVNF7f-4t this way you can get work
