Excellent. Knowledgeable, eloquent, well-researched, and an under-stated delivery, so the car remained the central focus. Often, oldies wonder about the future of classics, but you are the reassuring answer that younger generations are seriously interested. I have an immaculate Triumph GT6, which didn't pose the threat to MGB that it should have, probably because there was a little more of a cachet attached to the MG marque. You were far more watchable than some of the self-important "experts".

What a great video. Very knowledgeable and watchable. Well done. I owned and drove daily a blue MGB GT in the early 70’s (having moved to MGB from Cooper S’s) 😊 I loved it (although the driving position was more ‘lay in’ than sit up, so it tended to wear the back of shoes a bit! Well done again.

I have a 1981 MGB GT (yes you read that right, 1981, even though the factory closed in 1980!). After the factory in Abingdon CLOSED down in 1980, all the remaining MGB GT parts were shipped to British Leyland in South Africa as CKD (Completely Knocked Down), where only 200 was ever built from imported CKD kits.

Excellent vidio.... Having owned several MGBs over the years my current one is 1976 in black..... Iam not sure about the colour of this lovely 73 B you say it may be Harvest gold I would lean more towards the colour BRACKEN may be wrong though hard to tell on the vidio... My favourite mgb colour is citron yellow 👍... Well done kiddo...

I had one in the early eighties, I was thirty yyears old then. The performance was such that you felt you needed a peaked cap and a pipe. Very sedate. When I moved house in 1985 I still had it and on the hill approaching my house it would top out at 40 mph. I now have a Volvo XC60 saloon (yes with a peaked cap, but I don't smoke), and I have no idea what the XC60 will top out at as it's too dangerous to try - probably around 70 to 80 I'd guess. So in conclusion the MGB GT was a great looking car (when we took it to Spain in 1983, it gathered crowds in car parks), but the performance was boring as hell - most Ford based cars would leave you standing. Still, climate change is upon us, so all that pollution stuff has to stop. Rishi will sort it..... :) :)

The new USA standards for the MGB and the GT took place in June of 1974.. often referred to as 74 1/2. Also, the ride height was increased 2 inches, not 1 inch. Sales in 1977 were high, secondary to 1964. The car was heavy, not attractive, stifled by smog control laws and the horse power was down to the mid sixties from the original 95-98 HP. The MGC had a longer chassis, torsion bar front suspension, 15 " wheels instead of 14" as is on the MGB, beefier brake system mechanically and hydraulically. . All MGBs had front disc brakes. The MGB does not have , by definition, a monocoque chassis. It does have a floor pan but the body is attached to , but not a part of the floor pan, hence, not a monocoque. Very few American MGB owners cut the gearlever short. After market roof not mentioned. Excellent presentation, very nice car. Thanks from Oregon, USA I recently sold a 64 Iris Blue B, now have a 63 B. While working for a BMC dealership in Calif 1968-1972 I bought a 1969 MGC GT in 1970, Mineral Blue, Webasto roof, and Automatic transmission, chrome wires etc. I have also owned a 1956 MGA with a 3 main B 1800.. 1946 TC 1951 TD 1953 TD MK II 4 Thames vans, Half dozen Morris Minors 2 Oxfords 59 Fairthorpe Electron Climax 1980 Rover SD1 5 Land Rovers from 1958-1974 models etc. Very much enjoy British Cars

Well, Harley, you did it. You got me thinking about an MGB GT last year, and now I've bought one. The MGB seems much more substantial than Trevor, the Midget I used to own. ( Ned is wearing his old Pwee MG plates. Should have been pee wee , but too many letters...) My "new" MGB GT is a 67 Mk1 overdrive car. I think the former owner warmed it up a bit. It sounds cammy, has an alumin(i)um head and a big Weber 45 /DCOE. Can't wait to be driving it, but I have to install the lovely new wiring harness I ordered from England, to replace the crispy hacked up original one. It is a sandy beige special. That's a package dealers usually installed to help sell the cars over here. It includes painted wires, a wood Les Leston Steering wheel, Wood shift knob, whitewall tyres, and badges. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks, you got me thinking about it.

Cool. MG was pr popular where I grew up in the U.S. there was a big dealership near where I grew up. They carried all the British cars sold in the U.S. I used to kick around their Lot. They never said anything to me. [ I was still just a young teen]. 🚗🙂

Great video, very well put together and presented, I'd love an early 70's GT in BRG with painted wire wheels and no sunroof, might start looking next year, the 3.0 MGC might be front heavy but i'd put up with that for the grunt and soundtrack, especially if it had triple Weber carbs, it's basically a big Healey in a different suit.

Another great video Sir. Had two of these a 1967 but 5 bearing model in Black. Then a 1972 version in Blaze red. That one ended up with a large bore 2 litre conversion & a 45 DCOE Weber carb with a fast road cam & Janspeed exhaust & manifold. Home made rear Spax telescopic dampers & a larger front Anti roll bar. Wolfrace wheels. Much more. I sold it with a good Reg of WKW111 No plate & doing a recent DVLA check it is still owned by the person i sold it to back in 1978 ish from memory. Keep up the great work. Regards. Steve.

I only discovered your reviews yesterday and was impressed by your quiet, well-researched, erudite presentation and your obvious pleasure of a petrolhead! Roll on the day that you can test drive them 'a la' Twin Cam as that is when the true experience of car can be imparted, moreover I would love to see more of the workshop/garage, maintenance and repair. But I greatly enjoyed the two I have seen and look forward to many, many more. Rob

Hi Harley 👋 I live in New Zealand. My father had a friend who owned a MG like this one. It was mustard in color. We were taken on a long trip in it to Port Waikato here an this, was in the early 1970s, so I would have been 13 at the time. I sat in the back but because i am tall i had to sit along with my legs up on the back seat because there wasn't much head room in the back. It was a rough ride i remember but fun.

I own a 1969 roadster, Its interesting that a new generation are falling for the B, Its cheap enough to insure, like you said its fast enough, the steering is direct, The minilite wheels look great on the B. I think the rubber bumpered GTs really suit them. and the biggest plus of all for a young un the Ladies like them. The sound they make is still fantastic. I think the v8 was a bad thing, mg needed a new 4 cylinder engine around 1970, all they got was British Leyland.

@@richardsealey3626 Mr Thornley at Mg was hoping that around 1970 to have started replacing the B with the next Mg, some hope with the leyland management , very little money for new development . The V8 did not sell well, even though they are great cars and now worth a few bob.
