I literally didn't know NLA existed until your video popped up in my feed, I've been trying to make FNF animations and stuff, but I had to copy-paste the keyframes everywhere. With NLA this is going to be x1000 easier! 😂

I literally use it in every project, I even prefer it over the dope sheet, but I still use the latter to do the timing for multiple characters on screen

I feel I am the only stupid (?) who doesn't know how to use it, if I transform something in nla, then it influences all the others registered actions, so the only way it is to move them on other frames then?

@@drenwww I'm assuming you mean editing the keyframes within a single NLA strip. Yes, if you have multiple NLA strips of the same action (example: ArmatureAction.001), then whatever you change in that strip will change in all the other strips too. If you want to reuse a strip and make slight changes, you can make a copy of that strip (it will be automatically renamed to ArmatureAction.002), push it down into the NLA timeline, and rename it appropriately. You can make a copy of an action by clicking the button with a number next to the name of the action (hovering your mouse over it should say "make single user copy"). You'll probably learn a lot more from watching the full video. TL;DR: make copy of action you want to modify. NLA actions are meant to be reused without changes.

@@tnturnip 1st of all thks for your answer. Secondly, I was making several actions for a game characters, but if I was creating in one of them a nla by clicking in the down arrow then this very sequence of "mouvement" was applied to all my other actions and this was totally nerve breaking. I only solved that issue by not creating any NLA just keeping all my different actions as they were. One NLA created was then present in all my actions, and I never found out how to stop it to act on other actions that I didn't want to act on

@@drenwww right, so I think what you actually mean is when an NLA strip is pushed down, it overrides all the other actions you made before. The NLA editor works in a layer system. When you go into the NLA editor window, you can see all your strips ordered like a "stack". Any strip that is placed above another strip will override the keyframes of the same bone (example: if ArmatureAction.002 has keyframes for IK-Hand.R and it's placed above ArmatureAction.001 that also has keyframes for IK-Hand.R, only ArmatureAction.002's keyframes get shown). You can move the strips left/right and up/down with the G key. You can also make new layers manually with Shift+A while your mouse hovers over the layer names (located on the left side of the NLA editor). You can also mute/unmute actions by pressing H with the strips selected. This will make that strip not influence any keyframes. In the properties menu of the NLA editor (if you don't see it, press N), you can choose the Extrapolation of selected strips. You can choose Hold (your first and last keyframe of the action holds indefinitely to the left and right of the whole project's timeline), Hold Forward (like Hold, but just to the right), or Nothing (Neither hold left or right). You can see a faint orange bar that extends past the strip (or not at all) to see if what type of extrapolation that strip is set to. I hope my explanation was helpful. TL;DR: NLA strips are in layers, ones above take priority. Rearrange strips with G. Mute/unmute strips with H. Choose extrapolation in the property menu.

I saw your video, tried whole 2 days joining two actions with nla, and hated it so much that I considered stopping with animation altogether
