A few years back I looked into doing non-cdl driving. When I read the federal and state laws, it quickly dawned on me that there is no loophole for towing a trailer with a gvwr greater than 10k lbs. The way the law is written, it does not say “OR” anywhere. It doesn’t say “10k lbs gvwr limit for the trailer “OR” you can freely exceed the limit as long as you don’t go over the 26k lbs total weight.” It includes the trailer 10k gvwr “AND” must not exceed a total of 26k lbs. If you think about it, why is the trailer 10k lbs gvwr even mentioned in the written law if anyone could easily ignore it? I might be wrong but there’s been plenty of drivers getting tickets here in Texas for exceeding the trailer weight limit. Also, I just saw a video of a guy giving advice on how to load your trailer so you can go over the trailer’s gvwr. Moreover, in all these videos, not one have I seen where they are citing a specific law or agency that allows these loopholes that doesn’t require an interpretation of the law that favors these non-cdl drivers. I would like to hear or read the interpretation of a law enforcement agency not the drivers’. Anyway good video, good information.
