Checking both the RKIN and the AquaTru it seems that both were tested by IAPMO to meet NSF standards 58 but AquaTru additionally meets standards 42, 53, 401 and P473. That alone may lead me to think that the AquaTru is perhaps filtering a bit more things (while being more efficient 4:1 rather than RKIN's 1:1)? I'm undecided since the RKIN is way slicker and has much more tricks under it's sleeve but the AquaTru is cheaper (both the machine and the 2yr replacement filters). I use a separate jug to refill our coffee machine which also has a tap water reservoir container that is a little bit cumbersome in shape and size and doesn’t fit all that easily under the tap (although it’s not as heavy) especially if there are pans etc. in the sink. The plastic jug I use has a particularly curved lip (it doesn’t handle on it for some reason. I can’t remember where it came from, but I think it was a part of some other gadget, the rest of which broke a long while ago) and and it happens to hang quite nicely off the side of the machine, so it’s off the counter. A stick on hook would probably serve the same purpose for a jug with a handle. Might have to fill it a bit more frequently though.

@@waterfilterguru the first one held up for a wile, we had to replace both tanks because the seals were going bad and eventually it got to the point where it took forever for the machine to filter the water, we did the descales and it did not fix the issue, it lasted a-little over a year. It broke not long after we had purchased the 179.00 filter bundle. Customer service was great however and sent us a new machine base, we installed 3 brand new filters and within 6-8 months the machine would not pump water, we did a descale and the water came through the tank perfectly fine, we then installed 2 new filters because the blue one was good for up to 2 years, it work for a tank or two and then the machine got super hot and was pumping endlessly without filtering much water. The purified water was actually really warm. We decided not to bother with customer service again because they refunded us and gave us a new machine but at this point I was tired of the headache. We threw it out just like our first one and decided to try out RKIN. Do you think the U1 actually generates enough hydrogen into the dispensed water for it to actually be therapeutic? @waterfilterguru

Honestly, I cannot comment on whether or not the hydrogen infusion will be therapeutic or not. I would recommend discussing this with your doctor. As for filtering distilled water - there would be no harm in doing this. As distilled water is already purified, there won't be any contaminants to remove. The water will simply pass through the filter stages and then become remineralized and infused with hydrogen.

What do you think of RO Vs say a Berkey gravity filter?
@waterfilterguru
Жыл бұрын
RO units provide a more thorough filtration - but it always depends on the contaminants present that you are trying to address. In some cases, a Berkey might be sufficient to address the contaminants present, and in other cases it might not and an RO might be needed. Neither should be used with water with microbiological contaminants - these organisms will clog and foul the RO membrane, and Berkey retracted their claims that their system removes these contaminants. They now instruct users to follow the CDC guidelines to first disinfect water with chlorine bleach to destroy microorganisms, then filter through the Berkey to remove the chlorine.

These were all detected in the filtered water?? What concentrations of each contaminant? Were the filters brand new, or had they been in use for some time? This is concerning, thanks for sharing. Please keep me posted about what RKIN does for you.

Thanks for the Awesome review! I'm shopping for a countertop RO system with temperature control and I saw Coway CHPI-280L. It offers almost everything the current countertop RO system have to offer and can make ice. But the price is $2500 which is kinda crazy. Really curious if anyone has tried this out and if this is actually worth this price?

Hey thanks for the comment and question! We have not tested (or even heard of) that Coway CHPI-280L system till now. $2500 seems really overpriced for that functionality..

I bought this system recently. I noticed that it emits plastic/chemical smell especially when I use the hot water function. Has anyone else noticed this?

I’m also concerned about potential plastic leaking/coming into contact with hot or boiling hot water, have you heard back from RKIN about what kind of plastic or material they use to hold filtered hot water as well as what type of material is the nozzle that dispenses hot water? Have you tested whether the filtered hot water contain any harmful contaminants (esp trace plastics)? Thanks! @@waterfilterguru

A countertop RO would only be used for drinking and cooking water. In general, it's assumed 1 gal./ day / person for drinking, and another ~2 gal./ day/ household for cooking.

You can make bulk water and store it. Why bring up problems that are obvious.

Check out the AquaTru (bit.ly/3w7nsB5) or Waterdrop N1 (waterdropus.pxf.io/vnGOPW) if you'd prefer a system without remineralizaiton
