I see depression as self acknowledgment of one’s own lack of purpose in the world. to break out of depression, people need to find a purpose and pursue it to feel worthy. Exercise, sauna, cold baths are all a purposeful path forward.

Yes, but dry sauna is 174 degrees. Cardio will also help, but it can't raise body temperature 2-3 degrees internally or create heat shock proteins like sauna does. Cardio has its own unique benefit though, on the cardiovascular system.

Depression is a self indulgent thing, but still a very hard thing to overcome without medication. I’ve personally had depression for a while on and off meds eventually didn’t want to take them any more and I’m fine. I also do take b 12 vitamins just for the alertness and also helps with just the feeling of depression. Non the less depression doesn’t affect me as much as it should from my perspective. I’ve learn to let go of the bad and learn from the abundant. Pick and choose what type of information i want to engage with and correlate an alternative.

We can just have depression due to a life of failures, mdd is a bit different, I dated a girl once who had that and I sware her depression had to be caused by inflamation as on the whole that’s what I was seeing in her.

@@DaveE99 it’s definitely a human thing. It’s a primal thing to be self indulgent. Think of a primal state like flight or fight. It’s a self indulgent thing to do. You want you survive either way. If the independent variable is heat, you can't expose the control group to heat and claim definitive results. It's 8th grade scientific principles.

Sham control. It’s a control exposed to the conditions but without the effects. To show that external heat was not the driving factor but that internal temperature was key. It’s very difficult to sauna yourself into a fever without infrared
@austinlittke7688

disagree. Its essentially a study of 'at what dose is this effective or does it demonstrate therapeutic/medicinal value?' Now with that being said, the unscientific part is there has been only one study as she said and it hasnt been repeated to our knowledge (we'd have to look, but from what she tells us it hasnt). Also with that being said, we can infer the study is likely correct in its conclusion due to numerous other studies we have showing the body's response to both very cold and very hot temperatures (mainly the very cold as im not so much aware of the literature on heat, but cold showers, ice baths etc have plenty of data)
@ensdragonrex
4 ай бұрын
Disagree as well. If you want to know whether there is a dose dependent effect of heat on depression symptoms, this is how the study should be designed. The question really is was it sufficiently powered according to the delta in the variables and outcomes to reliably accept the results. Without reading the study, it’s a good idea to be skeptical of the outcomes, but this design should be fine to test the hypothesis. She is top notch and her reading of the study is one I’d generally trust but am interested in finding the study and reading it.
