The ZPAPM70 is a modified version of the Zastava M70, which was developed in the 1960s by Zastava Arms in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. The M70 is a reverse engineered, unlicensed derivative of the Soviet AK-47 Type 3 variant. The M70 was adopted by the Yugoslav People's Army in 1970 and is now used by militaries and police forces in over 20 countries. The PAP versions of the M70 are semi-automatic variants that were designed for export to the United States in the late 1990s. These variants were modified to comply with US import laws, such as 922R standards, and feature thick stamped steel receivers
