As far as engines go, this is bulletproof, dead simple multi point injection. Pro tip, when changing spark plugs, don't pull the ignition cables from the coils. If you do, you have a good chance to ruin the cables. Change brake fluid regularly, the ABS unit is a common failure point. Hungarian models had weak transmission bearings, change the oil regularly. The red display in the centre is prone to failure, make sure it works before you buy.

I’m definitely thinking of going for one of these as my first car. However I’m slightly worried when you say that it has a short clutch. I’ve been learning in a relatively new Ford Fiesta and the biting point is really easy to get to (around half way on the clutch). On these Japanese cars, what is the clutch like as I’ve never driven one. Does anyone have experiences of having difficulty with the clutch. Would appreciate advice from anyone ( ik this is an older video so I may not get a reply)
@CarsWithJB

I would say the clutch is short but not unmanageable - you would get used to it very quickly, and it’s also light enough that it’d be more friendly in traffic!
@chaoscarl8414
Жыл бұрын
@@CarsWithJB I would say that, as a new driver, that's my main concern. I was using a Citroen for learning, and that had what I would consider a rather short clutch. It was all too easy to miss it, especially when starting uphill. I also tried a Skoda Fabia, and, to me at least, that seemed to have a much more forgiving clutch. Or perhaps that was just because it was at the end of the planned lessons, so I was already somewhat comfortable using clutch and gears...? Still though... I'm kinda surprised you'd say it's a good beginner car if it has a short clutch. A nice forgiving clutch is one of my main priorities now that I'm looking for my first car, to the point where I'm actually considering giving up on manual gears entirely and go for an automatic instead.

Whacked on some black 15" Dezent wheels, rally style mud flaps, dropped it 35mm each corner and called it a day! Super reliable car, however the auxiliary belt is an expensive fix if it goes. So weird to see a KZitemr who's also from my town! You literally went the same route I did towards my old school BMS! I'm hopefully about to go for my first car, we should meet up and I can let you drive it once I have it 😎

I am feeling rather smug. My son bought a 64 plate Swift last week, which I found for him. He said that it was better to drive than him mum's fiesta. I was surprised that JB thinks it is more expensive than a Polo, Fiesta etc. At 64 plate - they are about the same or cheaper.

It's the perfect first car. Cheap, forgiving, and the paint clear coat falls off constantly.

I've got an 08 swift sport as my second car and its a brilliant car. In comparison to my 07 fiesta it's a lot more fun to drive but the interior is nowhere near as nice. Hard plastics all over and a few trim rattles but the way they drive. Apparently the 1.5 is cheaper to insure than the 1.3 and the 1.3 are known for gearbox issues. The swift is a really good car though regardless of the engines

Nice enough. I'd still take a Fiesta Mk7 (2008-19, there appears to be confusion about which is the 6 or 7...) since it looks nicer and I think they're a bit more fun but can't knock the Swift. Of course, the car we all want to see you review really is the Jazz ☺

@@kitanyaedward6722 the car was written off last year in a head on crash at 60mph. It crashed well tbh. The engine snapped off from the front chassis but didn’t come through the firewall. Still was a great car
