I like to use my ski….I beach it, use dry docks, speed up and down the river and hit the occasional submerged branch. I have one chip and some scratches on the hull , no cracks. It’s a strong hull, just the finish (paint) is the soft part. I’ll most likely get one more season out of it then have it refinish at a repair facility, the upper part wrapped, new seat covers and new plastics. (Once every six years is acceptable to me) Much rather enjoy the ski and not worry about every little thing that could cause minor damage to the hull. 2016 fx svho cruiser.

I had a 2018 VXR. I beached it somewhat frequently in muddy sand (so it was quite soft), but I also was very rough on it. I'd gladly go full throttle and skil off of rough chop. Gladly went in the ocean and would launch off 10' waves. Never had any issues with the hull. Held up just fine.

There is a reason why Yamaha switched back to a traditional fiberglass hulls in some of it's machines, especially the FX. The delamination is only part of the problem, the main issue is that you can't really repair the hull if you hit something. 4 people that I know with the Xcell hulls have hit things out in the water and ended up destroying their hulls, which in turn can't be repaired. All of them were write offs on their insurance. All of them were huge Yamaha guys and now switched to Sea Doo just because of the hulls. In Vancouver Canada where I am from there are floating and partially sunken logs everywhere in the ocean/rivers as well as several of the local lakes are flooded dam reservoirs where they left the trees still standing in the water. It is not a good place to ride if you have a delicate hull like the Xcell.

Totaled not because they're unfixable but because the work to do so outsizes the cost of replacing the unit itself.

@@watercraftjournalunfixable in a traditional way, which in turn becomes a specific person who can fix it. Me, I charge 3xs more to fix a Nano hull than anything else. Every part of the repair is painful and time consuming to say the least. Regular fiberglass repair will fall off. Stupidest idea for a hull that was ever invented.

I sprayed flex seal on a piece of cardboard then used a q-tip to fill in a few divots I had. Took a few applications but it’s worked like a charm.

I rode the heck out of a VX with a nano hull, and never had any cracks, but the paint is super thin and wears away easily, especially on the hull surface that contacts the trailer bunks. Even being very careful with brand new carpeted bunks the paint will wear away. Go press down on the rear deck of a VX or GP and look how badly it flexes…

They flex for sure. A quick rap of the throttle will show the deck flexing.

Keep those punks sprayed with the silicone spray and it will keep a lot of that paint from rubbing off. That's what I do and the bottoms of our skis don't even have a scratch or not even worn.

Hello! @the watercraft journal Awesome videos bud! I’m new to PWC’s I’ve been trying to get an FX but the markets so hot it might be another month or two from what dealers best guesses are. I was able to lock down a 2022 GP1800 SVHO, this will be my first ski ever. Other than the things you mentioned here which seems basic common sense should I be concerned with the Nano Hull? I plan on just riding the local lakes and Havasu, and of-course end up racing from time to time my uncles 310ultra LX and friends GTX 300.

I have gouges on gp1800r. I'm going to use west system epoxy 105, 404 high density adhesive filler, 206 hardner and 5020 black pigment. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Do you have to fill in or fix all scratches? Which gouges or scratches can you ignore? I have some subtle little scratches on my 2020 fx svho bottom, nothing major tho.

Golgo. The correct and proper way to fix those is what Kevin said however I'm not suggesting you do this but I had some gouges in the hull of my GP that went into the Nano. A fiberglass repair boat place told me i could use fingernail polish to seal them temporarily until I can get it fixed right been almost a year-and-a-half still fine but it is your choice
