Does therapy work for anxiety or is it just a waste of time? I just finished my first month of therapy recently. It was so difficult for me to find a therapist, I often wondered... "is all this work really worth it?" But when I hit one of my lowest points this spring, I knew I needed professional help. In this video, we'll talk about how to find a therapist, what I've learned in my first month of therapy, and whether therapy is really worth it.

1:06 how I found a therapist
〰️ (1) asking for recommendations
I started trying to find a therapist by asking my friends for recommendations. So many people sent me the contact information for their therapists and it was really helpful... at first. Quickly, I realized that finding a therapist would be harder than I thought. No one was taking new clients, and not to mention trying to find someone who took my insurance as well.
〰️ (2) Psychology Today
So, next I turned to PsychologyToday.com. This site allows you to search for therapists using your zipcode. You can filter the results based on your insurance provider and the type of therapy you're looking for (I chose CBT). It also let's you email the therapist directly from the website.
〰️ (3) tracking therapists in Notion
I started searching for a therapist in May, but quickly lost motivation. I contacted so many people, and I lost track of everything from my stress. So during my second round of searching, I started a Notion board. In the table, I added the therapist's name, contact information, tracked whether I contacted them and whether they responded, as well as any notes. I highly recommend this to anyone who is starting the process because it can be very overwhelming!
〰️ different types of therapy
Be aware that there are different types of therapy. A friend recommended I look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but there are many other types of therapy as well.
