Record fogging or misting, or rot is when records are stored in cheap plastic sleeves. Those old sleeves are coated with plasticizer to make them slide better, but plasticizer is volatile and will soften the vinyl of a record and damage the groove. It is pretty obvious when you see one. It looks like someone washed it and the soap left a film. You can usually see a sunburst effect or striations all around the record where the sleeve was in contact with the record.
If you don’t want to watch the whole video, no worries. The short of it is, not at this point. I tried at least a dozen products. One had some positive results.
Plastx, as seen in another video does NOT work. I tried it on 3 records. What it does is coat the record and it looks great. However, once you wash that record, it’s fogged again. It does nothing for the audio
Hopefully my Uncle will have some good news for us. I’ll keep trying and keep you posted.
