Times are definitely changing. 1300 is low! With the right attitude and maturity, though, anything is possible. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been a pilot more than 40 years. There has always been a “Pilot Shortage”. Being an airline pilot is like taking your dog to a dog park. They sniff your dog in the ass, and your dog kisses the alpha dogs butt. All in hopes of getting a pilot job. Airlines prefer to hire you based on your political skills and your ability to shine your shoes. After a few interviews with the majors myself, I stuck with flying cargo. More butt kicking and less butt kissing there. This is a crisis that the airline industry created itself.

Airlines definitely created this problem with low wages and poor working conditions. I do see a shift from good hands and feet to a procedural based outlook on training. It's nice to see things are starting to finally move after 40 years! Thanks for watching Donald!

As a pilot with 20 years experience in europe Stay out of the business, its NOT getting better oveerhere. There are thousands of unemployed pilots here. Im glad if its really true that there is a shortage in usa…. That should improve the terms and conditions for you guys

That's unfortunate to hear. I'm in Canada and have seen things finally start to move. Use to take 10 years and 5000hrs to get in the right seat of a jet. Now it's more like 1500hrs TT. How the times have changed... thanks for watching!

pushing 60 with no degree and the small fortune you spend for the pieces of paper that say you can fly an airplane, and I seriously doubt there is a shortage as the flight schools are full of students, flight simulator is a cheaper option.

It's not a pilot shortage, it's a pay shortage. Anyone who's been in this industry knows its cyclical and we haven't seen things favor the pilots since the 70's. The days of coming out of flight school to join an airline has been unheard of. Finally seeing a shift after hearing about this shortage our entire careers.

There is no pilot shortage, there is more than enough pilots out there, what everyone in the industry is looking for, is many hours do you have?, not what quality of hours you have. And the government and the insurance industry are driving this .

Insurance definitely plays into the hour requirement for operators. I have noticed a big reduction in hours of those joining the right seat, though airlines can absorb the costs associated with low time pilots. Interesting times. Thanks for watching!

The is no pilot shortage here in the UK, tons of instructors I know with over 1500 can't even get airline jobs. Im gutted because it means my prospects are even lower as a 200 hour pilot at this point I might as well be a glorified hobby pilot. Not to mention you cant even get an unfrozen ATPL flying king airs because it doesnt meet the weight requirement. You better get in to flying because you love it, not because you want a high paying job, thats for the few and far between.

I didn't realize the UK was like that. I was under the impression that most ended up in airline seats. If I can share any advice from when I started, network hard. Find a ramp job that leads to flying or instruct. Unfortunately, it is a grind. Most of us have washed planes and loaded freight in hopes of getting stick time. Keep your chin up, you have time on your side. Thanks for watching!

@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking that comment is simply biased, there's many people I have spoken to who in the U.K have secured commercial pilot jobs straight out of training. Even having bonded type ratings with airlines under the basis that you fly with the company for a minimum of __ years.

@cavalon6488 that's promising to hear. I'm sure there's a few that struggle like in any industry. Hopefully, we'll continue to see a positive trend worldwide.

its not required but the top major airlines will still want you to have one. Lots of pilots coming out of universities with bachelors who obviously will get picked up before pilots without one. Unless you want to be stuck at a regional airline for the rest of your career
@thisisyourcaptainspeaking

@lalalalalalallalallal the industry is in a boom phase where there's a lack of experienced pilots to fill seats. Hard to say what the recession will bring but I think we'll have a strong industry for the next 2-3 years for sure. A degree is what airlines use to help reduce the number of resumes to review. At this point, the stack is small, they'll take what they can get.
