Hi Lee, glad your feeling better and I think you've done a grand job on your HST project. It looks and runs great. Well done. Ps I do love the executive livery which I'm lucky enough to own the super detail version and at the time was the last one i could find. Susannah

Morning Susannah, thanks for watching this and for your lovely comment and kind words. You are soooo lucky to have the super detail in this livery, that's defo one to be treasured. The problem is that I got back into railways too late to catch any of these versions and by then even the used ones have re-bought. I then thought, actually I do have one and being isolated to my room I gave it go of improving what I had and it actually worked! Thanks again Susannah, take care and speak soon. All the best, Lee

Hi Lee. Sorry to hear you have been ill with this awful virus and that you have managed to come through it alright. I think you have done a nice job with the old HST, although I am no expert with modern locos. As long as you are happy with it, that's all that matters really. I bet you are glad that you can get back to your layout again, after all you have been through. Cheers for now Lee and hope you are all keeping safe. Geoff

Thanks Geoff, that was a really nice message. I'm still not 100% but like you said, at least I'm well enough to get back to the railway. It's been strange seeing everyone getting on with their layout whilst on lockdown, I tried to, but this virus just knocked the wind out of me and it just wouldn't let me go. I'm feeling better now and was sooooo happy to be able to climb the ladder to the loft and not only try out the hst, but to share it with you guys. Hello Lee, I've only just found your channel, sorry to hear you've been unwell, but I'm glad you're on the mend now, you've made a superb job of the H.S.T, and the layout is most impressive, I have a similar shaped and sized area on my layout, which I intend to fit a street scene into, and what I have seen on your layout is very inspirational, I'm hoping to fit a road works scene into it, ( I'm a road worker for a living), anyway, stay safe, all the best, Stephen.

My favourite set is still the midnight freight from hornby , 1986. I don’t have a layout my house isn’t big enough but I get it out now and again put some pasting tables on the flat on the floor and run it for a little while. The class 58 from had issues with the engine burning out but mine ( touch wood ) seems to still be beautiful.

Hi Lee so sorry to hear you have been ill and so hope you are soon fully recovered . You have made a great job on the 125 and looks really good going around the layout , the lights and the weathering have certainly been great improvements. It is always nice to get something from your childhood running for sentimental reasons if no other . Stephen at Newbottle , Tris a OO Neale and John at Greenhill have done the same. Thanks very much for the shout out and in respect of the roads to backscene I have done the same on the high street side of the layout and they have blended in nicely to the backscene. What I did is find a view in the local are that I thought would work then find it on Google Street view . Then I did a screen shot, cropped it to the bit I wanted and then resized it to give a realistic road width . Printed it off cut out the sky and stuck it to the backscene and its not bad. The next video will show it clearer. Looking forward to seeing you work the magic on the embankment . All the best Kev

Hi mate, glad to hear you've recovered from the illness. "is it acceptable for the layout" - absolutely !! Why wouldn't it be? Unless of course you are trying to get in the next edition of Railway Modeller then you might have to fork out £300+ for a super super detailed all singing & dancing model and another £300 for the matching coaches :) I have two of these 30 year old models and I love them, I can afford them & they bring me enjoyment watching them go round the layout - for me that's all that matters (Rule Nr 1). Nice work on the refurb mate, a definite improvement, I like the subtle weathering, looks excellent & I would be happy running that fine model around my layout. All the very best to ya buddy & glad you're back on the layout, looking forward to seeing some landscaping.....Andy

Hi Lee , what an awesome layout and video. I managed by chance to get a pair of these (cheap too) less than $45 Australian dollars for a power car and a dummy car exactly the same as what you are running there in your video ,, I didnt know there as old as from the early 80's. The power car is a tad sick and under powered but I will pull it down and give it a good servicing and it should be ok. I just need to get some carriages for it now but they will come to me in time as the hst 125's are not so popular here in oz. We have virtually the same here but we call them the XPT's (eXpress Pasenger Train) & were built by Comeng over here but pretty sure they are the same or sismlar design as the hst 125's but our ones top out speedwise at 160 kph (100mph which is way fast enough for our old and frailing rail infrastructures lol) as also we have lots of mountains and hills here in Australia so the gearing had to be changed for our different terrains and inclinations we have here. I did want to ask a question for you or for anynone to answer if I could ? The power and dummy set I bought the same as yours has the hornby D type coupling on it but dosent seem to have any tow hooks on either on the power car or the dummy car and dosent look like there any place to put the hooks. Do you think this is normal and good enough just to have the one tow hook from the passsenger cars as to me seems to be a lot of stress just for one tow hook on the passenger cars. Thanks for the awesome videos you put on youtube for us all to watch and enjoy as we are in a covid lockdown here in oz at the moment and have been for nealry 2 months. Anyhoo thanks for the gr8 vids and please keep them coming.(no pressure, haha) Cheers from John in Australia.

I hope you are enjoying your hst 125 and have managed to get some coaches (they are fairly easy to get on ebay). Yes, you are right, the dummy and power car come only with the d loops and no couplers. This is fine and as you can see from the video, they more than suffice, even with extra coahes and the cd motor fitted. All the best John and thanks so much for your message and kind words. Lee

Hi Lee, someone else may have already said it, but I thought i spotted something slightly odd about your lining and looking at the real thing I think the cantrail level red and white lines from the coaches extends a little bit too far towards the cab - if you follow the diagonal lines over the grill on the left diagonal draw a line up to roof level and that is where the lines should stop, at least from what I have seen - of course there may well have been an exception - and there's modellers licence!!

You've done a great job Lee. Doubt if many would have taken the trouble. How slowly and smoothly does that cd motor now run? The hornby hst gets such a slating nowadays, but it should be remembered it was brought out in 1977 and when hornby were firmly in the toy market. It was also made to sell for pocket money prices, which is how I proudly wad able to buy mine in 1980. To me ...its a hst. And any visitors identify it also, despite its inaccuracies, so it's fine for me, and in fact I will invest in a tts pack for it . Nice video. You are a perfectionist

Hi hope you are well. The cd motor actually runs really smooth and it crawls really well too, I should've done some footage of it at slow speed. Hi Paul, thanks for this mate. Yeah the letting should be solid, but I'm just not confident on how to do it. I suppose I could replacement decals from fox transfers. Thanks again and best regards Lee

Hi. The platform is made from 18mm mdf, coffee stirers, filler and printed paving. I've done a video on how to make them and them step by step. Thanks for watching and also commenting. All the best, Lee

Hello John, first of all thanks for subscribing to the channel, really appreciate that and also for taking the time to watch and commenting. Right, so, these hst's that are the budget and not the super detail, actually don't have hooks on the couplers, believe it or not they only have the 'D' shape bar for coaches to couple to. Even the one I upgraded in my video doesn't have have the hook (bit of silly design). I did actually have the engine uncouple but only the once. Suppose we could make something? Not sure, I'll have to have a think. Hope this helps? Thanks again John. All the best, Lee

Hi Lee hope your well. I sorted my H S T some one had put the draw bar on upside down lol so it runs with no problems. Well it did until i decided to put a lighting bar on it and silly me just jumped in with both feet and I carnt remember how the wiring was. Can I ask you a big favour and ask if you could do a wiring diagram or send me a pic of your wiring. Sorry to be a pest but I’m really stuck. Take care John

Hi John, hope your well mate. I'd love to help you out. These hst's run on a really simple wiring system. The front bogies are negative feeds. One to the lights and one to the motor. The motor bogie is your live feed, one to the actual motor (very short wire) and the other wire to the lights (this wire will have a diode). Hope this helps, but if your still not sure I'll draw you a diagram. Also if you put 'fit led lights hst' in KZitem, you'll see them removing the body shell and exposing the wires. I should really do tutorial videos but I just don't have tripod and camera. All my videos are just done on my phone camera. I am actually looking into getting equipment. Anyway enough of me rambling on, John if this doesn't help, I'll draw you a diagram or take the body off mine and explain it in the next video. All the best, Lee

Really glad to read that you obviously did overcome this Corona bug and wish you a very good health in future! You did a really good job on working on this set and the result does you credit. Just one question: were these trains later renumbered in 143 series, because in all the videos I have been seeing I always see these trans being numbered in the 143 series.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to watch and commenting, I really appreciate it and also thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you like the hst but as for your question, I'm really not sure because I've always seen them as 43.. the 1 in front could've been added in later days perhaps? Interesting though. Thanks again and all the best, Lee

@@leewhall2504 No they were always Class 43. The first HST in InterCity livery (253028; 43125 & 126) did actually have the yellow extending over the radiator grille on the bodyside but subsequent repaints had it dark grey due to the yellow showing dirt up!

Hi Daniel, I got the yellow line reference from pictures on the Internet and from books, but what you said makes a lot of sense as the yellow fades after the grills. Thanks Daniel, Lee
