Recently I flew with Icelandair in Economy. Even there it felt good. Even for tall people it was possible to sit without smashed knees. All was clean and the service was very nice. When we had a delay because we had to wait for the allowance to start, we got drinks before the normal service. Even in economy there were optional pillows in the headlockers, regular wifi was free and music and films. I traveled with a few european airlines and it was the best for me so far.

I have enjoyed Icelandair Saga class between the US and Amsterdam a few times. Definitely well priced compared to other options and the Saga lounge in KEF is amazing. I recently did the middle seat on my US-Iceland legs as it was a 767. A little exposed but great aisle access! Very pleasant service. Flight attendants seems a little stand-offish at the beginning but quickly warm up once the hats come off. Food last time was a mixed bag. Bot a dinner of fried plaice, salmon, shrimp and caviar. Was decent but just assumed the fried plaice was going to be hot/warm but was not.

I always wanted to fly Icelandair and after your review now I definitely will in November. You were asking about European airlines: Add Finnair! I take their flights from Hel-DXB a lot and they are always solid and good. And I take a nice crew and no flatbed, over a crew with "Lufthansa attitude" and a comfi flatbed. Plus: The lounge in Vantaa is really nice ( if not too busy) with Gin Lonkero on Tap ( which is sensational)

Icelandair keeps this business class setup because its core business is to connect US-EU passengers via KEF. Thus its competitors are really the carriers that fly across the Atlantic. I don't think they consider these KEF-EU flights really intra-Europe flights, although they are legally and geographically. I have flown their 767 from YYZ to KEF before. It's quite nice even in Economy. But to compete for trans-Atlantic passengers, I think they should really upgrade their business class to long haul lie flat product. Also, their entire fleet can be deployed in EU or US routes flexibly, so it's costly actually to have a different business class product for EU flights vs the US flights.

Hi Josh, wonderful video about Iceland air. Wow, their business class really looks very comfortable and the food seems to be high class. - I flew with Icelandair in the year 1987 from Luxemburg to New York via Keflavik and also loved their Saga class product back the days. I always enjoy watching your videos, because you have an honest but polite and very friendly attitude, and your reviews are wonderful and absolutely helpful for own choice of airlines and classes. - I only disagree to your remark about Lufthansa. I was just shortly flying business class with them from Zürich to Helsinki via Frankfurt. - And - I was overwhelmed by the friendliness and efficiency of their cabin crew. And - I also enjoyed very much the food and drinks on board. Imagine for a two hour flight from Frankfurt to Helsinki you had the choice between two different hot meals, - amazing! - Peace, safe flights and kindest regards.

Very nice service, overall seems to be better than many other airlines in Europe and other regions as well. I guess that airline probably covers less routes than others which might allow them (perhaps, not sure about this) to give a better and more dedicated service to their customers. I am yet to fly Icelandair, I am looking forward to it, someday. My theory regarding their business class is that, given the remoteness of Iceland, any flight will be longer than that of a continent based airline, therefore allowing for more time consuming services. You could not expect a proper business service on, say, a CDG-LHR for instance, that does not exceed 45-50 min flight time. Just a thought.

In Europe, all majors airlines offer a "false" business class (not talking about the food, the lounge or the miles you get, but only about the seat). Sometimes business class goes from row 1 to 4 or from row 1 to 10...That is how they play with booking/seats and classes. Well, on one hand it is a shame (because of the uncomfy seat/privacy) and on other the hand I still enjoy a 2.5 hours ride in Swiss business from Zurich to Greece (lounge, food, miles and an empty seat between me and my neighbour). Of course, it would be better to experience what for instance Air Canada offers (seat) between Chicago and Toronto...but I think that the European carriers will never reshape their cabin to please US or far East travellers. Only future will tell...

@@Ali-zz9lh I'm not just making an opinion based on some videos on KZitem. Instead, I'm flying myself and especially a lot with Turkish Airlines. Therefore I can say that TK is delivering an excellent product in both economy and business class. Also a side note: that KZitemr is famous for literally hating airlines for nonsense reasons. Things like bad crews can happen any time, but overall his videos are just a waste of time to watch. Even in this case of TK, a quick search reveals titles like "Best European Airline" or "Best economy class in europe" (Simple flying, OnBoard HD, Nonstop Dan, Vicarious Voyager), while his videos feature titles like "don't bother" or "don't fly". And I haven't even mentioned other clickbait titles like "awful" or "the plane broke!"... so just don't make up an opinion based on one KZitemr. And technically Istanbuls new airport is still located in Europe, so you can say that TK is a european airline. But yeah a debatable topic

Hi Josh. Great review - thanks. I agree with you on the state of European Business class - it's an embarrassment really. Also, you're right about Trukish - proper business class seats, improper business class service! Have you tried Norse Atlantic? They fly from LA to Berlin and I think a couple of other routes but I'm just a bit concerned that their prices are incredibly low in business class. Am I just being a European traveller who has been burned too often? Or is it worth trying? Keep up the good work.

It is funny how the "best business class" offerings in "Europe" are generally offered by countries at the fringes of that vaguely defined geographic area. Turkish Airlines is another one that I would consider "Europe's" best business class, thanks to the little foothold that Turkey has on the European side of the bosphorous. Last October I flew business class from Frankfurt to Rome via Turkish Airlines specifically because it was a super cheap points redemption AND the hard and soft products are amazing for those short legs. And it allowed me to use the TK lounge at IST as a very nice office on my layover. 😃

Another awesome video Josh! I’m sure someone has already responded to your razor blade question, but pre-September 11, 2001, we were allowed to carry razor blades for our safety razors. Josh, you are totally right! A good lounge experience can change the whole dynamic of a flight. Especially if the check-in and security process is long and annoying, or the airport is generally crowded or poorly set up for waiting passengers. To hit a decent lounge with good food and drink, and relax a bit makes a world of difference. Those airlines that offer arrival lounge visits are even more highly rated in my opinion, as a hot shower and clothes change are bliss. Some of the best lounges I've been to would be Etihad's Biz and First in Abu Dhabi, Emirates Biz & First, Singapore's "The Private Room" lounge, Virgin Australias Brisbane and Melbourne lounges, Royal Brunei's lounge, the 'Loft' and Lufthansa's First. Even a few contract lounges have been good. Sadly for every great lounge, there is a heap of poorly thought out and cheap offerings purely there to satisfy a generally accepted requirement of a Business class ticket or status passenger.

As I have recently experienced, IBERIA offers excellent meals in Business Class (European flights) now. In comparison to that, Lufthansa just offers a very poor light & cold meal on a 3 1/2 hours' flight in Business Class (from Munich to Sevilla) - a single lettuce leaf with a slice of cold cuts and a few lone kidney beans. And they advertise that as a special highlight called »HEIMAT« -ridiculous!

I think Lufthansa’s inflight service is really bad. Arrogant staff just working according to German labour laws, not customer oriented. In the past I flew once from Singapore (stopover) to Frankfurt (although it was booked through Singapore Airlines) flying from Australia, in a Lufthansa flight. Now I always select the second leg (SIN - FRA) a Singapore Airlines flight. I also don’t like the arrogant service of Eurowings.

I've been living in Iceland for the last 20 years, always choose flying with Icelandair when it's possible. To me they are reliable, and the best compare to others which fly to and from Keflavik. In 2019 I tried their Saga Class for the first time, then it's kinda difficult to go back to the economy LOL. Food-wise for the economy is almost none, because i'ts not included in the ticket price but you can pre-order it when you book at extra cost, decent price IMO. But when you fly Saga/business, it's a different story, meals included, bottled water, coffee, tea, wine, soft drinks are being offered endlessly, sometimes the gave you chocolate like the one Josh got on his flight. Not to mentioned the lounge as well, plenty of food and drinks. Once I flew economy from Copenhagen to Keflavik, not long after checked in done, we got informed that the plane was broken in Keflavik, so there will be no flight for that evening. The way Icelandair handle this situation, again in my opinion, was superb! all the passengers were booked in a good hotel in town (FYI 4 star hotels in CPH are expensive), got a taxi voucher to go to the hotel and back to the airport the following day, got dinner at the hotel, got voucher to spend for coffee at the airport. Icelandair didn't cut cost when it comes to compensate their customers. Same situation happened to me in Heathrow long time ago, I was flying a big name airlines from Middle East, due to curfew the plane was canceled to take off, all the passengers were asked to leave the plane and being told we're going to take off tomorrow morning with the same aircraft. We're also told that they were going to provide hotel for those who are not Londoners and taxi for those who are. It turned out to be NONE, we're left at the arrival hall until morning, the airline ground staff finally disappeared no where to be found, people had to sleep on the floor. The following morning was chaos at the airline counter, the stranded passenger and the new ones built a long queue, no clear instruction, just stand in a queque the whole day not even being given food, had to claim our checked in luggage from the aircraft and re-check in again. It was total mayhem. I had finally flown out of Heathrow at 5PM instead of 10.50 PM the day before. The airline just compensated me with refund at the price of LHR - CGK one way after a long letter to the customer service, months after the trip. This will never happen with Icelandair, the way it handles cancellation was much much better than that big name airlines. Sorry to say. Once upon arrival in Copenhagen as well, one of our luggage was broken due to their handling. I thought shit I am going to have to buy a new one now, and the compensation might took months to finish. But gee...it didn't happen like I thought. I reported, then fill a complain form, then voila... I got a brand new luggage similar to mine. Problem sorted. So, I have shared years of my traveling with Icelandair and I am a proud fan. Glad Josh enjoyed his experience with it as well. Áfram Ísland ❤✈
