I’m an American and speak both Japanese and Korean. I don’t care about this guy in question and don’t intend to defend him, but objectively, this is 100% malicious translation (not by DKDKTV). For one, it’s factually incorrect to say he’s the CEO. He stepped down in 2020. But to get into what he’s saying, he’s not saying they’re “just using” Koreans in that kind of a negative way. The phrase for that kind of “use” in Japanese would be “利用”. He’s just saying very colloquially that many of the staff are Korean. And every report says it was in an “interview” but it was just in a personal insta live stream with not even 1k viewers so that would explain why he’s being casual about it. Some knetz claim he said he hates Korea. He didn’t. End of story there. And I really don’t get why it’s so bad that he wouldn’t categorize it as k-pop. (And frankly, knetz would not be happy if he called it k-pop either because… factually that would be incorrect.) The producer and CEO of the subsidiary is half-Japanese and half-Korean and they are all Japanese girls and the subsidiary is 100% owned by a Japanese company and trained in Japan for 4 years. One of the girls is either half or quarter Korean (Hinata) the same way one of the girls is half-Aussie (Harvey). They’re just about the first Japanese group EVER that has been allowed to perform on major Korean networks but they’re just promoting in Korea the same way every k-pop group promotes in Japan. People can keep saying “oh but the K-pop artists that promote speak Japanese” … no they don’t. They can say a few prepared lines and if presented with food they’ll say “oishii.” And I’m not saying that as a knock on any of the artists, I think it’s not realistic to expect them to learn multiple different languages in addition to all the other hard work they put in. I’m just pointing out the double standard. XG actually speak Korean, even to each other, albeit at different levels and somewhat imperfectly, but they can at least hold a conversation, enough to have a meet and greet with Korean fans (yes, despite popular belief they exist) after shows.

@@koaaala Let me start by saying that Japan does not have censorship laws that doesn't allow korean media to be played on their radio or tv stations. Korea on the other hand Korea is the one that has those rules on Japanese media. Korean actors and artist can go work, promote, sell merchandise, media and sell out concerts with no problem. On the other hand XG debuts and Koreans are making excuses on why to hate them and how they are anti-korean. This was taken out of proportion. The whole thing was translated the way the wanted to manipulated. Matsuura didn't say anything wrong. I don't know in what world do Koreans live but they are hypocrites. In large companies, small companies, schools, universities, sports franchises everyone is trying to beat the one who is at the top. How do they do that? by either hiring or signing their professors, employees, managers, presidents, CEOs, coaches, managers, GM's, AGM's, personnel etc. They all want the blueprint to the winning formula so what's wrong with that Matsuura said. Nothing the world is a copy cat world and people use those employees of the winning ones to make theirs better to beat them. American pop came first, Jpop copied American pop, and Korea copies Jpop. The thing is that Jpop is and was cater towards the Japanese, People forget that Japan has the second biggest music market in the world. Therefore Japanese artist do not need to be known to have a successful career. BOA came to japan in the early 2000's and learn from Japan at the time and took it back to Korea. Those are facts and not lies. Korean Pop evolved into the monster it is today where training to dance, sing and rap are big while in Japan all the did was get pretty faces. Another thing Jpop is not only AKB48 with that lame Kawaii look, there are artist like Milet, Yoasobi, Lisa, Bananamelon , etc. Now the reason why XG is a global girl group like I said before Japanese media is not allow on korean radio or tv so if they had to make a group English is the perfect choice. Unlike Japanese and korean, English is a universal language so by making in it an english singing group they can attract more fans and there won't be excuses of why they wont be played in korea. Knets are calling them for cultural appropiation, saying XG raps like african americans.... really ?. Oh XG used YG to get famous, nah XG never said they were part of YG, YG dick riders hungry for another group and thirsty for blackpink assumed they were YG when they saw videos of them training in YG's facilities, not knowing tha anyone can use YG's facilities as long as you pay. They also USED 1 million dance studios. See how i made the word USED in capital because Koreans are using the word USED in an anti korean word. Is not like the used them for free, they had to pay for the services of those trainers, choreographers and writers. Those people get paid to give their services. It was just like when Twice and Blacking USED Kiel Tutin to do their choreo, or Kyle Hanagami. Oh XG used Korean resources and they don't want to call themsevles KPOP... Kyle Hanagami is japanese american and Kiel Tutin is british.. i don't see you crying about that. Oh they used Korean producers, If you know anything about Simon Jakops, he was born in seattle , he belong to AVEX and was a Kpop Artist. I've read that he is a japanese national, I don't know how true that is but that's what i read. When he was done with his Kpop career he went back to AVEX. The same way Hiraku will go back to AVEX when Kep1er disbands. They go back to their main company. In Jakops IG stories he tagged the people that wrote Mascara, two white people, himself and a korean writer. Not all are koreans see that. Now back to Kpop groups, do you guys really think that Korean groups recruit artist from other countries out of the goodness of their hearts? ... all they see is more money. Lisa brings in all of Thailand who will buy anything blackpink because of Lisa, Tzuyu from Taiwan , Taiwanese and chinese will follow and buy anything Twice, same thing with Yiren, the same thing with Momo, Mina, Sana, Sakura, Kazuha, they know the Japanese will support. At the end of the day everyone is in the music business to make money and create the group that produces the most money, meaning everyone wants to be #1. So to all the xenophobic knetz you guys are pathetic and sored losers. To those Korean fans supporting XG, thank you and don't change.

This sound like a case of Korean nationalism gone too far. So far that they can’t see their own double standards. When it serves them, Japan is the erstwhile colonist. But when they want to popularize their kpop groups, then go all out promoting in Japan. Going as far as translating Korean hits to Japanese.

Let me start by saying that Japan does not have censorship laws that doesn't allow korean media to be played on their radio or tv stations.
@Unknown-un5pu

Yes, thank you for the fact that Korean groups were able to broadcast and have concerts in Japan before. However, Korean idols were popular in Japan because they were different from Japanese idols. However, regardless of whether the CEO is an anti-Korean, if XG group is similar to kpop, why do we need to raise an idol of a Japanese company in Korea? Korea already has the best way to add Japanese to the Korean group like Twice. also Korea is not a big country like Japan, there are already many groups, so competition is fierce. And unlike in the past, Japanese media are now banning Korean groups like bts, and Korean dramas have been banned from public TV due to protests by right-wingers before. Also, it is true that Japanese entertainment singers and producers said a lot of hateful things about Koreans through Japanese broadcasts and interviews because of jealousy when kpop was popular. Also, if you look at the comments on channel 2 or Yahoo! site in Japan, they always say a lot of bad things about Korea. You know that. The reason I'm saying this is that people tend to say nationalistic and negative things on the Internet. And Japanese and Koreans are more like that about each other.
