Due to their historical affiliation with the Civil War each middle school name is being replaced with local civic leader names. Neil, what I think is depressing is when they tear down a long standing building to make a parking lot or mall. I worked for 20 years in Baldwin Tower which was part of Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. I was the RN and nurse practitioner for 5 cardiothoracic surgeons. They moved their practice to another location and Baldwin Tower was torn down. It broke my heart. This tower meant so much to me. And for a bigger parking lot for the hospital which was remodeled and renamed. Downtown Columbus was never the same. For so long I couldn’t bring myself to go there. My husband, who was a pharmacist in the main hospital tells me it’s progress, but I can’t understand why it had to be this way.

Renaming these buildings doesn't promote the new owners as much as it erodes the character of the city. Turn there, and go past the old Almacs store......" People aren't using these new names, they're describing the town as they remember it 20 or more years ago.
