I live in the area and will relay some experience what to expect. The road isn't dangerous, it's the reckless individuals that make it dangerous and most are always from out of town. For the Dragon itself, you might see a few motorcycles crossing the double line but more cagers in high-end sports cars will usually cross that double yellow line coming the opposite direction in blind corners. The folks on the Dragon going stupid fast are usually locals who know it like the back of their hand and they will never cross the double yellow whether they are in a cage or bike. If you are on a big ole Harley, don't ride it like someone on a supermoto. Ride on the outside lane. If you are on other roads in the mountains, watch for blind corners because I GUARANTEE YOU will have a cager coming the opposite direction with their head deep into their smartphone and they will be in the middle of the road if not in your lane and going fast. My brother-in-law used to work as an EMT in the area; also have a friend who owns a towing company that pulled many from that road. They have some really gruesome stories to tell. Very, very, very few people who wreck on the Dragon or other roads in the area walk away. Some spend weeks, months in the hospital with life altering injuries and most end up dead. Ride your own ride is rule of thumb. Don't cross the double yellow. These are public roads used by locals to get to and from. It's not your private race track! The state of North Carolina almost closed their side a few years ago due to the reckless individuals. You will encounter tourists who have no idea what this road is so be patient and understanding as it's one of the few roads available to get across the mountains. Expect a lot of traffic on the weekends unless it's snowing.

Great ride along video, I felt like I was there riding behind you at the same pace. By the way, thanks for all your instructional vids. I’ve been riding for 30 yrs since and considered myself pretty good at lower speeds. But using your practice suggestions have made a big difference, thank you! I was out with my buddies yesterday and we needed to make a few u-turns on tight little back roads. We ended up stopping at the Pineville Tavern in PA for lunch and 2 of the guys asked “how the hell did you make those turns back there??” I turned them on to your Channel and you’ll have some new subs.
The road is not dangerous, the people who disregard the safety of others are.

I'm a local in western NC. I love riding the Dragon, but I don't go during the busy months. Like you said, the road itself isn't dangerous, it's some of the riders and drivers that are. When it's real busy at the Dragon, I like to ride the other twisty roads we have here. I go fairly fast. Not racetrack fast, but fast enough to enjoy the lean.

I’ve ridden the Tail of the Dragon over 15X. I go to Deals Gap but now do not ride The Dragon. The Dragon of itself can be dangerous but Irresponsible riders and car drivers have made The Dragon very dangerous. Enter a diminishing curve and suddenly a car or a bike is across the center line barrelling down on you. If you don’t have strong experience riding mountain twisties, stay off The Dragon. The biggest danger as I mentioned is other irresponsible riders and car drivers thinking they are the hottest thing on the road. Drifting a car on The Dragon should be a Felony.

I live a few minutes from the dragon. I worked ems on the dragon for years and a motorcyclist and have ridden it. I would say the road is no more dangerous than any other. I would be more comfortable riding the dragon than riding thru knoxville by far. But I have used a lot of body bags working ems up there. Hey Robert...We've ridden it 3 times and believe it is no more dangerous as any other twisted roads. As you stated, it's the rider responsibility to know his/her skill level. We have many roads in Cali that are twisted and ride them daily, but on unfamiliar roads we go easy. So maybe we have gotten used to twisted roads prior to riding the dragon. Is it our favorite road...not by far, but it is a very fun road .Most people think I ride fast...I tell them it's the technique that I use that get me through the twisted rides faster than most. YUP! We will ride the dragon again.

It could be that your wife doesn't like all the twists and turns that the 360 normally shows us during the "follow the leader segment." In this case the view was straight behind you, which was the best view in this case. She might like this view. The 360 doesn't bother me either way. Good video! I have to ask. What happened to that truck? After you reached the end of The Dragon, how much time passed before it finally showed up?

Dont know if things are different in the U.S., but if you did that in the UK, slowing traffic down deliberately, you would have a lot of anger and aggression from other drivers. They would immediately pass you and you would have a different rear bumper in front of you.

Hello Robert, I think I'll buy this type of camera for one of my future rides. However I noticed a couple of places its angle was canted a little too far especially near 50:30min mark while going thru the hairpin right turn. It could be due to some extreme leaning of the bike and or flexing in the camera mounting. But overall it's a really good quality video. Thanks for sharing.

Rob, my brother thank you for all you do. I am a greatful V.I.Preloader and have my motorcycle license that I got with my friends way back in 2001, but have never owned my own bike. I'm hoping to get a bagger next year and be much closer to GA than I am now, in the hopes that I can meet up with you in Pooler and become the "Boss of my motorcycle". I pay for a subscription because I've watched tons of your videos and feel that it's the right thing to do since you feed my brain with superior slow speed motorcycle skills. So wayyyyyyy in advance, I want to say thank you for sharing your expertise and wisdom with a non-motorcycle owner. You touch more people in more ways than you think. God Bless

Too much distortion and creates an uncomfortable feeling. Not a fan of the Insta360 at all. Respectfully disagree with those that say it feels like you are on a bike behind. Like the angle but not everything that goes with it.

Brother, don't ever go ride on the weekend. You wanna have fun on that road, show up about 11 PM Wed or Thurs night...you'll have it all to yourself. There's also a lot more better roads over there to ride.

At these slower speeds does counter steering work in the curves? Feel like you have to be going a little faster. Let me know. Making my first trip to the dragon in June

I didn’t do any counter steering while riding the Dragon.

You can barely see it from that angle, but I was also mostly engine braking.

I love it, I can see looking a head through the turn. The view is amazing. I just moved to Brooklyn, NY for work from Monterey, CA and have many new NYPD friends who ride and I tell them I follow you because I like how you break it down and keep it simple. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. VR, Mark

Awesome video brother. My buddies and I rode the Dragon for the first time 6-12-22. It was an awesome experience. From what I experienced, speed and "target fixation" are probably the leading cause of motorcycle accidents here. Looking through the turns and controlling speed and a rider will have a great experience. We rode the Cherohala Skyway prior to riding the dragon. It was absolutely gorgeous scenery. I love the camera angle. I truly believe your video will give riders the true view of riding the dragon and what it entails!!! Keep up the great videos and shiny side up, my brother!!!
Well I guess they cleaned it up since I was there about 5 years ago because the last time I rode there you could not see over the treetops in any of the openings
