Thanks for the speed test, i forgot about BlackMagic. Love how apple takes away ports as time goes on. Wish Steve was around to slap some sense into Tim!

Yes, it's funny but you never know what Apple will do next. Thanks for watching.

I would reach out to Anker but are you sure port has passthrough power.

The speed loss is negligible, the question is how does the speed hold up when you have a 4k display connected and maybe an SD card or another drive. I heard that there are some shenanigans going on in the 10gbps version of this hub (the 8 in 1) and it's no really 4k 60 and 10gbps.

It has worked good for me but I would need to do that specific test. For the $30 I would just pick one up and try it. If it doesn't work as expected just return it via Amazon. But, from my experience I have hooked up monitors at 60 HZ without issue.

Hi. Thank you for your video. I'm trying to connect this hub to a Chromecast with Google tv going to my tv monitor. My usb-c wall charger gives a maximum of 12 watts output, but I got error message telling me is not enough power. Do you know how many watts do I need to make this hub working?
@craigneidel

I have not tested it that way and I don't have a Chromcast to test. It should say on the website and I would go to Amazon page and search the reviews and there are question also you can search. I think it will tell you the watts and if it will work they way you set it up as it could compatibility also.

@@craigneidel I tested today with a 20 watts usb-c charger and it works. I hook an usb-a dongle for my wireless keyboard and mouse and it works fine.

I’m worries these hubs may get too hot, how do they compare to the official apple ones?
@craigneidel

They have not been hot for me. I pushed them pretty good and they were able to take the thermals. Of course this will be very specific to what you are actually doing but so far I have not had issues with heat.

can you do a video of patching big sur onto 2012 mac mini and determine whether it is worth it to patch or just more worth it to stay on catalina?

I'll do a bit of research. I have a few videos lined up but maybe after that. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel.

I don't have that device to test but it should. Just make sure it says compatible with Chromebooks on the product page.

Will it run 1080p at 60hz?
@craigneidel
2 жыл бұрын
It says this in the questions on Amazon but I didn't test this part. - Q: What refresh rate does it support at 1080p? A: The HDMI port on the hub supports 1080P at 85Hz. If I have time I can see what I find on this and would post it. I think it can do it but you can't always trust what was posted on Amazon etc.

Do you prefer your Vava or Anker hub?
@craigneidel
3 жыл бұрын
Hello. I think the main difference is that the Anker Hub has the usb-c data (and a second one with power). The Vava hub only has a USB-C cable of powering devices but not data. So that extra feature is key for some. But if that doesn't matter they both are excellent hubs and I guess go with the one you can get the deal on.

@@craigneidel Thanks so much for the reply. I got a deal on the Anker 5-in-1 hub (no usb-c data or power delivery). Was wondering if it was worth the $20 upgrading to the 7-in-1 Anker. I have another usb-c port on my Macbook anyway so don't think it's worth upgrading due to the loss of power through the hub power delivery anyway. Appreciate the reviews!

@@cowasaki6 Thanks Naylin. I wouldn't spend the money if you don't need the extra port but of course it depends on how you use it. The one time you might need it you may have wished you got it. Good luck and thanks for supporting the channel.
