The Gretsch Bell Brass is an awesome snare drum, it really is. All of this chit chat about how it's made etc is not relevant in my my opinion; What is relevant is that it sounds fantastic and looks amazing, what more do we need :-). I personally prefer triple flanged or the Gretsch wood chopper hoops on this drum because I like the more open sound with this particular drum, but I could change my mind tomorrow.

I agree, I think some people get caught up in how shells are made when in reality the differences are often so subtle most people couldn't tell the difference

It is awesome and in my top 3 snares. It is the best for a big rimshot backbeat song. It is not the most articulate though. When i play with a busy left hand, i will go toward my Supraphonic LM402.

Looking for a snare that will cut through for live gigs at bars/small venues. Thoughts?

This all depends on your budget in terms of specific recommendations. Saying that, I find you can't go wrong with a brass 14x6.5 - 8 with die cast hoops. That will get you heard!

Would have loved a sound demo with the mic farther away from the drum and you hitting it a lot harder

Hi, thanks for your feedback. As I explained in the video, it's simply my phone rather than a mic and there are countless sound examples on KZitem of this drum. The purpose of my videos are more discussion 🙂

There is no such thing as "bell brass". So, if this snare is a cast shell and you say it's brass, it's not "bell brass", it's a cast brass shell. Bell brass is the same as a cast bronze shell. Don't know why they every started calling it bell brass.

Brass is indeed a different metal than bronze. They are not the same.

Bells can be cast in brass as well as bronze, but bronze is far more expensive due to the price of tin. Brass and Bronze are both Copper alloys, but Copper and Zinc is Brass, Copper and Tin is Bronze. They are not the same.
