Yet again it's too wonderful!. As for buying a property in a kind of secluded area, unless you have a trustworthy local to look after your place, it's a tough one to manage, my brother in Costa Rica solved this issue by building next to his house a small house for a local family of 3, they live there full time and take care of his property with all that goes along with it, maintenance, etc. The best of luck finding your place!.

I think you would get more bang for your buck in Baja. Dinner looked wonderful. One of the great things about Cabo is that it is only about a 2 1/2 hour plane ride to U.S. Costco is one of my favorite retail stores, not only because of the good deals, but because they are a very responsible employer, and treat their employees very well, with good pay, and benefits.

Oh, wow! What a beautiful part of the world that I never knew existed. I'm sure there are more than enough expats to give you guys' great feedback on what the issues are (good and bad) of living in Baja. At least in Cabo there are first world goods and conveniences that make living easier. Together with the resources and natural beauty of the land and ocean, to me, makes this the ideal place to settle. You can tell I might be a bit biased. :) Love you guys. @thepeacefulpack
2 жыл бұрын
@@maryrankin9869 Mexico is definitely more tropical and in some places too humid for electronics - so that was an issue we didn't anticipate. As for safety it would depend on where you were and what you were doing and what time of day. So yes there was always a sense of caution. Whereas in Portugal it's not like that at all. The buying process and tax system was completely different from region to region in Mexico. It's like they made up and changed the rules whenever they liked. So no reliable governing system. Whereas Portugal has lots of paperwork, lots of systems in place and a much more reliable governing process. That said - professionals like accountants and lawyers are very affordable and easy to find. At the moment Portugal is offering excellent tax incentives for people who work online and for those looking to retire. So your investments are safer, your physical being is safer and Portugal offers a more consistent good quality of life. Mexico is stunning and a fantastic place to visit, whereas Portugal is a great place to call home and build roots.

Aaaah, Cabo! I went there like 20 years ago. I'm sure it's changed. The most fascinating thing that happened while I was there was in the middle of the night along the main strip. I was walking around after all the shops were closed and wandered into one of the little 3 sided shopping courtyards. There was only a cop (in uniform) and a kinda unsavory looking guy standing in the middle of it just chatting away. The unsavory looking guy turned to me and asked me what I was looking for / wanted. It was VERY clear he was talking about drugs. I looked at the cop with a questioning expression on my face and he just kind of smiled and shrugged. I of course turned the drug dealer down and wandered away. It straight up looked like and felt like one of the old stories I'd heard that said that the cops will let you and watch you do something illegal, take a cut from the dealer and then arrest you and try to get "bail" money out of you.

@@Mrandmrsadventure , oh my, thanks for the response! Yah, it totally felt like it was out of a movie and was so surreal. Btw, I love the two of you so much. I'll be a bit sad when you settle down but; after all those years of van life; I could see having that need. I totes wish you luck in finding property. Oh also, your van build out flat out is one of the best I've ever seen. :-) The couch/bed, the drawer shower and toilet are just so smart! Building a shower stall in a van would just make it way to claustrophobicly small. I've also seen people install a shower pan below the floor with a wood slate grate as a floor in that area and shower curtains kinda like yours. It means more space to shower in.. but, you have to have a rug or something over it or end up getting dirt, rocks etc in the shower pan.. pain to clean out and highly likely to clog your grey water release value.

@@OgdenM Keep in mind that settling down for us likely won't look what it looks like for many 😉 Aka our interest in living abroad. Our desire to explore, open our minds/learn and serve is very very strong! Thanks for the kind words towards our van build. You indeed did it. You crossed Cabo off your to-do list. For me, as someone who has lived in Baja for over 14 years, I personally don't care too much for Cabo. It is fun to show to visiting friends and family, but it's a place that is solely geared to 24 hours a day party tourism and that is not for me, but to each their own. Of course you have to do your own pro and con list of each place you consider to make your permanent home, but I want to urge you to yes, take security and safety issues seriously, but don't buy into the fear mongering that is going on. Certainly there are places in Mexico where you don't want to go as tourists, but Baja is not one of those places. Sure, there is crime, as there is in EVERY city and town in the world, but no more. Besides, since tourism is a very important part of the Baja economy, the government tries to make sure that crime stays down (or at least hidden from foreigners) as to not endanger that income stream. As I said, do your own research and assessment, but from my experience, no, it is not a dangerous or insecure place. Would love to have you in the expat family here, but will keep following you wherever your adventures take you guys. What was that beach where you got stuck? Cerritos or El Migriño?

We agree about Cabo! It was too much like Las Vegas to us. Definitely glad we checked it out for curiosities sake. We feel as you do about security and be set to make and informed decision. It’s never easy arriving at night time and trying to stay on the packed down tracks. 🙈

It's the end! But *not* the end! 😁 I love how you got to the puntica, way more rewarding than simply handing over a wad of cash to someone to shuttle you there. Now personally I can see myself living in Baja (or mainland mx). Portugal, not really, no. Part of that is the language/culture/people - I can assimilate. I get your concern about home security when you're away. But it's only a false sense of security to think that some countries don't have burglars. They're everywhere, and they're looking for opportunities. No matter where you end up, you should take precautions to minimize their opportunity. Que Dios los guíe y proteja!

Hey Brittany and Drew, I am also looking for a place to call home after living in Sonoma, California for 32 years and sold my home there that I raised my son in. I sold everything, and now I am across the United States in Virginia Beach because my son and his partner moved to Norfolk. I do not know where I belong. I am an orphan of the world at age 68.

Check out the Mexico interior. Lot of people love lake Chapala or San Miguel de Allende. Year round great weather.

Great video! You both seem more Baha than Portugal to me. Just sayin'

28Feb2023, Baja is beautiful and I loved the end of the beach. That was gorgeous...but...I have my heart set on you making your way to Portugal because Spain and France are already there, and the coast of Portugal covers the entire length of Portugal. There's more to see and travel to in Europe. But, it's your future not mine...I am living vicariously through your adventures. Good luck and many blessings.

Hola. Learning Spanish is a lot easier than Portuguese but living in a desert is not my thing. Whatever some people might say, security in Mexico is still a growing problem. In Portugal you have a short access to many European countries with different culture, better food (once you had enough tacos) and way better wine. Winter is better in Mexico but too hot in summer. Many pros and cons on both sides...
