My heart will always be with 80's thrash/speed metal. This song/performance is, in my opinion, the best modernization of 80's thrash metal that I have ever heard. They do it Lovebites style, clean and fast, and with a ridiculous breakdown/solo section in the middle that is both unexpected and beautiful (a word not normally used in thrash). Lovebites are the queens of gallops and riffs, best catalog I know of. Now that you've reacted to their pure thrashiest song, try their heaviest song to date IMO, "Dissonance". It's audio only - strap in: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xKCik2iCs3SBhWU Great reaction to this thrash masterpiece.

In my Top3 Lovebites songs forever - like you said, perfection of every instant, every note. I love that Miyako bring out the Les Paul for that song, because she NEEDS that singing tone for her solo (she usually only use it for two or three songs - it's a heavy beast).

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody She used the Dean LM on the 2019 show... Compared to this it sounds thin, and lacks the roundness for blues. I believe this is a guitar she got on loan for this performance? At least what I've heard from another comment in a different reaction?
@realdocloco
Жыл бұрын
@@andreaspedersen3952 No I think the Les Paul is hers. The main problem with the Dean ML (for that specific song) is the floating Floyd Rose Tremolo - unison bends always tend to sound wrong with those, because when you bend a string, the others strings goes slightly out of tune. It can be prevented by setting the trem for dive only, or using a trem blocker.

Midori is an incredibly fast and technical shredder and I love hearing her wail... Having said that, Miyako just has an ability to reach in and make every note wrap around your heart when she really cuts loose. I like to think it's how she makes up for her constant stoicness. . If Midori is the brain playing, Miyako is definitely the heart doing the same.

Glad you did this version of the song - the version from 2019 (from the Daughters Of The Dawn show) suffers a little from Miyako using her Dean ML with the Floyd tremolo which is a bitch to play double string bends in tune... There are other thrashy Lovebites songs: "Set The World On Fire" (kzitem.info/news/bejne/mm-w2XxsonmQaZg), "Hammer Of Wrath" (kzitem.info/news/bejne/0KqAwISLfKmqgoI) and "M.D.O." This song warms an old school Thrash Metal fan's heart and is definitely among my three favourite songs by Lovebites! Compared to the rather tame sounding studio version, the heavy sound of this version is absolutely perfect. Since you especially loved the main riff of this song, I recommend to listen to Testament's song "Over the Wall" from their debut "The Legacy" (it was my favourite album in 1987 and is not only my favourite album by them, but also one of my favourite Thrash Metal albums from the eighties), because the main riff of "Break the Wall" strongly reminds of the riff you hear for the first time about 37 seconds into Testament's "Over the Wall". Unlike Testament, Lovebites have not only one, but two excellent lead guitarists and I'd say the sound of this live version of "Break the Wall" is even better and heavier. As for other Thrash Metal songs by Lovebites, I fully second the recommendation of the live versions of "The Hammer of Wrath" and "Set the World on Fire" and the studio version of "Dissonance" (there's no live version yet) in previous comments.

I think i was an "elitist" when i was between 16-20 or whatever, however for me there was nothing better than Yes, Genesis, Renaissance at that time. And next some jazz like Pat Metheny, Jan Gabarek, Keith Jarrett. But Yes was simply the best .. in the end it all makes sense because at that time we called it "symphonic rock", and while i heared a lot of all other kind of music in the later 80s and 90s, and there lost my "elitst" behaviour because i then even liked maybe Whitney Houston or Celine Dion, because they are just great singers, at the end of the 90s i first rediscovered Ritchie Blackmore with "Blackmores Knight" and then Nightwish and Within Temptation who in the end are now called "symphonic metal". Also if i think back, Blackmore also always had already some kind of symphonic stuff in his music, or the medivial folk elements. And now i notice its not a Nightwish reaction but Lovebites, but nonetheless Miyako is als a great Ritchie Blackmore fan, and they also have quite some symphonic / classical stuff in their music.

Elite guitarists usually start playing their instrument very young, but not so for M&M. Both started piano as toddlers (Midori at 2 and Miyako at 3), but Miyako didn't take up guitar until she was out of high school (18) and Midori started while in university (20). They still have plenty of room to improve since they are both only in their early 30s - Miyako born 1990 and Midori maybe a little older since her first band started in 2014.
