Water pads have two jobs. While their main job is to clean the spindle with soap and water, the secondary job is to wet the spindle so it grabs and holds the cotton better. Like when you wet your fingers to turn the pages of a book or a pages of a newspaper (for those old enough. to have read newspapers). Even better example is twist a dry wooden toothpick into a cotton ball. It will not grab it. Then dampen toothpick and this time it grabs cotton. Same thing with a picker spindle. A damp spindle grabs and holds cotton for better picking.

Ya know Granny if Daniel would put a blue tarp in his Cotton Picker so that when it clogs up he could just lay the tarp under the bailer, empty the cotton on to the tarp, not the ground it wouldn’t be that bad to pick it back up !😂. Have a great weekend.. thanks Daniel….

I never knew how a cotton picker worked, now I understand, we have no cotton in the north east, quite a complex machine. The back end is similar to our round baler here. I will remember this when I put my jeans on in the morning lol.

Hey Daniel to help with the plugging you can have your cp690 calibrated and it obviously calibrates the belt to the bars that’s push it down on the belt. That’s helped for us and if you decide not to do that just hold your foot on manual switch till it’s about 85% then it should go, and let machine warm up good so hydraulic fluid is warm.

2 bales or better an acre, according to if irrigated or not and what cost you have in the crop. A bale weighs 500 lbs

Ya'll dressed up like it's cold there! What's the temp there. 50? Ya'll needed to be in Southern Minnesota last week the high was in the low 30's most of the week! Corn pickin weather here! Oh and we had snow. Knocked us out of the field for picking but we was able to do tillage.
@deangelojeremitriusvickers6319

The weight of each roll that comes out of the picker is around 5,000lbs but on average you’re lucky to get 30% of that back due to the weight of the seed and if the cotton is wet etc

Just drove through harvesting in SW Georgia. So farmers contract out for this? They don't capitalize and maintain these expensive machines machines, right? How is the picking order prioritized? I also saw a lot of cotton remaining on stalks in some fields. Is that considered waste?

Daniel, question. At the river, why don't you dig a less steep ramp to the water thingy? That way your excavator won't be like falling off a cliff into the river when your putting it in and removing it.

For safety, put two tag lines on the river screen when lifting it into or out of the river to control its orientation. Having someone (your dad in this case) physically reaching out to touch it is not a good approach.
