Rye is very nice, as too is Winchelsea down the road from there then too. And of course, the sea down the road too. I used to go there, although have not been for a long time now due to alas being disabled. Also, Rye was the setting for the tv series Mapp and Lucia where it was known as Tilling if I remember rightly. There were two adaptations of the series-on Channel 4 in 1985-86; and on BBC1 in 2014. Both had different actors in their cast lists so then too. Thank you of course!

Just stumbled onto this video, loved your reactions, you're funny! I was passing through Rye in my classic beetle in 2012 and had a quick look around. Also climbed the church tower, despite my insane acrophobia. The view was stunning, but the actual climbing itself was by far the best experience of the visit! About halfway, there was a very obese man, and to this day I wonder how he got up there and if he ever got out... 4:37 try doing that with breasts and a bum...🤣

In answer to your question , the answer is no. Rye was a fabulous Market town with a thriving community and centuries of history. Today it's a facade with little depth to it. It's a Town full of affluent middle classes ,mostly moved down from London who have retired early and had time to get themselves elcted on the Town council. They do their best to prevent any modernising of the town. I don't mean the Citidel which if you visint on a cold January evening you will find barely a light on in any of the houses due to most of them being 2nd homes. The "Great and the good" fight tooth and nail against any form or low cost housing for the young people of Rye. The people who have grown up in or around Rye and have no where to live, nowhere to start a family but they can get employment on zero hours contracts in many of the coffee shops, junk shops etc. I remember Rye when the entire Town took part in the Carnival, floats full of colour with the schools and local businesses, pubs etc all having their own beautifully decorated carnival floats. The Circus coming to rye and elephants walking up station approach, through the Town onto the salts and Bonfire Night was a massive event. In the 1960's there were fire breathing Dragons paraded through the Town and onto the salts for the bonfire and fireworks. The community spirit was amazing. Today Rye is just a chocolate Box picture , "All fur coar and no knickers". I've lived in and worked in/around Rye for over 50yrs and to be honest it's just another souless Town on the South coast.
