amazed at how much thought and detail goes into these things. All the combined years of thinking and living this way coming together to produce a machine and its camper, really blows me away. Well done folks, and it goes to show when you're truly passionate about something, walk the walk and talk the talk you find a way to make it a side hustle as well. KUDOS!!!

Thanks Mike and Kevin. You certainly got me more interested in the overland lifestyle. I've always been into boating adventures as I live on Vancouver Island. But we also have some beautiful places to explore on land in the mountains. Channels such as Live Work Wander, Bound for Nowhere, Lifestyle Overland, and Overland Bound got me thinking about selling my F150 4x4 and going with something a little more nimbler. And everyone should have an AED and know how to use it.

I love the Turtleback Trailers but they are literally the price of a new 4Runner, for that money I'd rather have a Four Wheel Camper that I can stand up in or a Tear Drop trailer with an enclosed place to sleep. Different strokes for different folks. Great video, nice to see it all in detail.
@LifestyleOverland
6 жыл бұрын
Tex Lee Totally understand your initial thoughts on the price. Just make sure you research the overall construction and determine if it will handle the terrain you intend to travel. There's a big difference between a typical RV, plywood teardrop, and these Turtleback Trailers. Glad to chat about it anytime.
@texlee1640
6 жыл бұрын
I whole heartedly agree in regards to the majority of tear-drops and their plywood construction, there are however other tear-drop like trailers made of aluminum which offer much better rigidity and durability. I love the Turtleback and Patriot trailers, I just hate they force you into a RTT as your only option for sleeping accommodations considering the price point. FWC's are also of concern in terms of reliability and ruggedness, unfortunately there is no perfect answer here.

Devildogvet 666 Dan Perkins I hope the money we have invested in our adventures doesn't make anyone feel like this type of setup is needed for overlanding. It's simply what we have chosen use. We sold our house and now live in a 40' camper trailer to allow us the funds to do the things we love instead of working to pay a mortgage. Not that we would encourage everyone to take this path, but it's truly a new perspective when reduce your overhead and monthly payments to a level that opens up new opportunities. Hence our name; "Lifestyle" Overland we changed our lifestyle in order to live our passion.

Love the trailer, I have plans to purchase one in the next 6 months. Turtleback did well choosing you as an ambassador and OM. I do wish I liked Toyota's more, I just cant get myself to like them. They are so dated, they feel like a 90's model at new car pricing. I am thinking about a Colorado ZR2 with the diesel, but there is little aftermarket support for them. Anyway, great video and you earned a new sub.

Scott Gerry I thought the same thing when I first came across Turtleback Trailers at Expo West in 2015. I was blown away by the quality and features but the sticker shock had me scratching my head. I went home and did my research on other manufacturers and found that the Turtleback Expedition was the most competitively priced considering the features and construction. I then set out to build my own but after pricing out the material, equipment, coatings, suspension, electrical system, and appliances I found that there was no way I could build the same level of trailer for the price of the Turtleback when you considered the amount of man-hours required to engineer, fabricate, and assemble something of this caliber. It was about this time that they introduced financing options at 3.25%... that sealed the deal because instead of spending 3-6 months building, I could be enjoying something already engineered and tested to do exactly what I wanted. After 2 years of ownership, the chance came up to work for them and I jumped all over it because it's a product I believe in and I wanted to help make it even better. Now that I see the balance sheet and man-hours on a daily basis I can say without a doubt that this is the best value off-road trailer out there. We spend over $2,300 in coatings alone (hot-dip galvanizing, bed-lining, zinc powder coating, color powder coating, etc.). I understand that a 20-30k trailer isn't in the cards for everyone but the price is right for what is offered. This is the highest quality of trailers and it is built to last generations. We also offer another style trailer that starts at half the price of the Expedition but is built on the same chassis. We are working on branching out and offering trailers for multiple offroad styles and budgets.
@USAFJUNKIE

@@LifestyleOverland I'm sorry but still... At that price point I can buy a nice hard sided camper to use when I don't need my custom off road camper that I built for under $3,000 (and that includes the Tepui ruggedized tent). I get where you're coming from, but it's not worth a new car or hard sided camper's price.

It would be nice to know what brakes you have, electric or surge hydraulic. I can see for behind a small/medium SUV that an ability to control the brakes independently from vehicle (using manual slide on electric brake controller on lower dash) might be nice. In my world of "overland" it's cold rainy, snowy ....generally NOT arid....I want to be IN a small trailer. RTT aren't for me. I am designing and building a "in draft" trailer for behind my wife's Liberty CRD. At 30-32 mpg it's a no brainer for us. Using galvanized box tube frame and insulated panels down low and a high end fiberglass "work truck" cap is my method. My moto, and her kayak will be on outside. Ability to stow valuables inside during travel and sleep there at night makes sense for us.

Its a nice set up but by no means the ultimate setup, especially for a family. They only have one kid with a way overpriced trailer. I have seen their overland videos. They are good videos. However, for the terrain they travel, I would think the ultimate setup would be a decked out military vehicle like an M1079 4x4, Mercedes Sprinter, 4x4 or maybe even an old ford conversion van with a lift and SAS if you are on a budget, for an average family that is with more than 1 kid and 1 or 2 dogs. They are crammed into that 4runner. . Honestly, I would be impressed if they were overlanding in their HJ43.
