@jesse_jameson

@@electrcguy I think the reason for the second piece being so difficult to determine is that the particular song ("where i end and you begin") boasts a ton of mid range. The main differentiation between the two stylus' appears to focus on the high end, or 20k to 22k range, which seems more prominently displayed in the first and last selection. I know people say you cannot hear this range in human hearing, but i think there is a timbre brightness that can be noticed :)

The VM95E does sound better. Much better detail retrieval especially. Something that's really huge is the fact that you can swap the stylus on the VM out for a microline, shibata, conical, nude elliptical, or even a stylus designed for older 78s.

Round 3 I chose the older AT95E....bit oh so close....so my ears are not what they were 30 or 40 years ago, I'll be 70 in about 2 months. Hello. Good question with this video. Without hesitation the VM95E has a better frequency response, the bass seems rounder and the extreme treble more detailed. They also corrected the slight phase shift and the channel balance of the AT95E. Unplug the ground from your headphones to hear the difference between right and left sound (listen to surround sound). For me it was A on track one(quite noticeable), but indistinguishable on the other two. I had an AT95e back in the late 80s and replaced it with a Revolver modded AT95e in '90 that was basically a cherry-picked cartridge (from a batch) that was then glued which did give it a similar edge. Cost me £17.39 and I still have that cartridge (and receipt!) even though it's probably knackered.
