Please allow children to have these experiences. Just spot them and you will be amazed at what they can do! If you spot them and allow them to have safe falls they will learn to be more careful or realize that can't do it. If you keep saying no, stop, it will only cause them to be sneaky or stop trying.

I'm a grandma, I remember riding on my butt down stairs.When my oldest grandson started to walk and make his way, I sat at the top of the steps, I held him and we took off together. He laughed so hard. Awesome memories ❤

This is true my great-grands did what he is doing . Plus they turned on their stomach and slid down the stairs ,sometimes with pillow . If they had a bump ,we would hug them with a kiss and say try it again with your head . 😢😅😂😂😂

My baby brother used to climb down backwards too. In fact, when he learned to move around om his own, he started by crawling backwards, not forwards 😂

My army trained doctor at the U.S. Military Hospital in Germanyn now in upstate NYS, says my knees match and will do them together-- I use two canes, but go down steps with a tight and good handrail, BACKWARDS, ONE STEP AT A TIME, HOLDING HAND RAIL AND SOLID WOODEN CANE (cut to my exact use height!!). I check under my arm how many steps still to go-- wait and "regroup" on each step!!! Do a double turn enclosed staircase to our choir loft weekly-- many like to stand and watch me do do and marvel how safe and steady I am!!! My mom has tod the story often I walked alone at 8 mths old!! My uncle put me down to balance at a coffee table-- but I wanted to be across the room. I "wobble balanced a little for several seconds-- then let go and walked across the room to where I wanted to be!!! Never crawled-- just started walking right to today and ~tomorrow with two new knees-- please LORD SOON!!!!

Yep! My son was fearless at that age and it took a few headers until he figured out that when Mom and Dad said “STOP!” Or “be careful!” he should listen. He’ll be 30 next month and although he takes some physical risks (rock climbing, skiing etc), he’s one of the most cautious and conscientious guys I know. My sons crawled up the stairs and slid down on their tummies. Then they learned to crawl up and slide down the railings, which they thought was faster and more fun. Both were daredevils.

Amen, I just quit nannying so that I can provide care for kids that safely allows them to experience life. I have worked with infanfants and children and have witnessed children going above and beyond adults expectations! It amazing to watch!

When I began giving my girl a safe space to master each skill, I never had to say, “no”, “stop that”, etc. I learned that when they do dangerous things, it’s just them trying to master a new skill. I found when I was diligent and attentive, I could anticipate what she was trying to master and figure out how to make safe spaces to achieve that and move on to the next skill!

Why yell “ That’s enough?” He’s doing very well. Dad sounds inpatient. Are you? My ex was very inpatient and he caused such fear in my boy that he froze up when ever my husband was around. Then that made my ex mad and then he began yelling AND HITTING our son. He wasn’t ment to be a dad. I took my son and went to a shelter for women . New life, new dad, loving and patient husband and dad. Best thing I could’ve done. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Remarried 5 yrs later and his new dad never yells or hits him . He’s a wonderful dad and Mikie just adores his dad.

survival mode would mean adrenalin. he is still curious and aware of his surrounding and in a very positive mode like flow mode with positive hormons. but no worries. dad can not stand this and will stop him. these are the last glimpses of a free and competently exploring and growing skillfull kid. from now on he will be restricted, yelled at, learn to obey, be fed and grow fat and be a typical numbed american kid. dad will break him way before he is two. he will never remember this state of mind that would bring him places.

@@lindacrowe8428 i have seen these developments - great sunny kids at 14 or 18 month. bright and happy. but then the expectations of the parents came. like this dad at the end. "enough"... obedience, yelling, calling them stubborn, etc etc. a year later the sparkling in the eyes was allmost gone, they seemed very "reasonable" and pale and just functioning.

My daughter would go down backwards until when she was about 18 months and she slid down head 1st on her belly... I used to tell her stop & she would laugh... Id say don't you.... And shed be down the steps by the time id say dare lol. She gave me a heart attack but she laughed her honey off every time lol

Please! My grandson was scaling the stairs like Spider-Man at his age. He would turn on his stomach and slide down. Once he reached the floor he would get up and carry on like nothing was impossible.

Thete were four of us kids and we hever had any stairgates etc, I think kids are a lot smarter, and a lot more interested in their own safety than we imagine.

All of my children were brought up in a house with stairs and they figured out how to go up and down, each one did it differently but it was effective. More parents need to allow young ones to figure things out for themselves, it helps them more than you know
