The show has lost their best story line!!!! Tom and Nancy are so real and genuine. I learned a lot about living off grid and using natural resources to earn a living. I wish Tom and Nancy the best in their retirement. you will be missed!!!

I wish that Rich was back too...Tom and Rich were my favorites....I do not like Jake at all, there's just something about him that just turns me off when it comes to him....I do like the guy who is living on Kodiac Island and the brothers....but without Tom and Rich the show isn't very appealing anymore 😢😢😢

I am the same age as Tom. I can see him as a young man riding bulls for a living in the rodeo . Escaping to the mountains must have been a dream come true. To also learn and understand the skills the American Indians used like mixing the animal brains with boiling water and then paint that onto a deer skin followed by special smoking and end up with a beautiful tanned hide. My wife and I have a plot of land and enjoy living with nature rather than the city. We can hunt deer during season but nothing else. I can dress a deer out but would have no idea on how to tan its hide. I will miss Tom his wife and their beautiful log home and his workshop out in the wilderness. God speed to them both and I hope living in Florida doesn't leave them wishing they had never left Montana.

Tom and Nancy were my favorites on the show. I would love to learn how to brain tan and make things like he does. It's a dying art. I bet it's hard adjusting from the mild summers and freezing winters to the hot humid weather of Florida.

Exactly what I was thinking. If he wants privacy he doesn't sound like the personality type to want to teach his skills, but they need to be passed along. Too bad his kids aren't into it.

@@Shadowman-1960 BWAHAHAHA!!! I actually thought that was a serious comment for a second. I actually have a book called "Tan Your Hide" that covers all the different ways of tanning for furs and leathers. I did try a deer hide someone gave me but I didn't have the proper tools/materials. Of course no brain and liver. I couldn't get the membrane removed. Eventually had to throw it out. But managed to tan a muskrat once. It was a beautiful roadkill, undamaged. I skinned him front and back, did not split him up the belly, so when he was done it was like a muff, open at both ends. I think muskrat is an underappreciated fur. I lost track of it though. I had been keeping it in "cold storage" in my freezer.
@Shadowman-1960

@@NavvyMom Thank you for finding my comment funny especially since that has been as rare as hen's teeth around her lately. Interesting note every warm blooded animal has just the right amount of brains to tan it's hide no matter what their size is. { : {) } >

@@Shadowman-1960 Wow, so interesting to find this comment just now. Just today for no reason an old saying popped into my head-- "Every animal has enough brains to tan its own hide." And I thought of how it wasn't a statement about their intelligence but an actual fact. And I thought of this comment section and figured I'd never find it again, like so many cool YT videos I watch and nice people I meet in the comments. And here you pop up with that exact fact.

To correct this video, Tom has said repeatedly on the show (as well as showing pics of him & Nancy when they were young) that they had lived in the Yak for more than 40 years- obviously not in Tom's early 70's as this video states. In fact, Tom is in his 70's now, & moved to the Yak around 40 years ago after he retired from bull riding after sustaining an injury from butting heads with a massive bull.
