Using twinmotion through the last six months at my firm. They’ve improved faster and at a higher quality than any other rendering service in the last year. User and software friendly, tons and tons of assets and great rendering settings. Also, talk about model/geometry capability and capacity. They are leading right now and it’s not even close. Don’t get me started with Unreal Engine 5. The competitors are gonna have a hard time keeping up with Twin Motion and Epic Games.

I use TM, D5, Enscape, Blender, Vray and have started learning recently UE5. That been said, I am both an architect and filmmaker. The bottom line of any piece of software for me is time input vs results output. As of YESTERDAY, I hold TM and D5 close to my chest in that department. Blender is amazing for VFX, but for architecture you have a time factor that kills you when you are on a tight deadline. I did a render in TM in one hour yesterday, 8K, took 20 min render time and it is really really good. Best part? I got everything from within TM. The more a software is self contained (very smart the sketchfab integration) and offers more assets, the better it will help us produce our work in a timely fashion. Blender is art house, you can do a "one of a kind", but you need TIME. On a tight schedule, I keep D5 (amazing what you can do with it), and as of yesterday TM (only for certain things, I think the interiors are not there yet.) Btw, same render in Vray at 8K would have taken 2 days... welcome to 2022!!!

Hey Wissal Cheriet, I’m glad I could help you with this choice. Twinmotion for architecture school work is more than enough. University projects don’t need an ultra-realistic render. my suggestion is to focus on getting a well designed project with plans, diagrams, sections and all the necessary drawings. That’s the main goal from architecture school, learning the design process. Realism can come later in your career if that’s what you want to achieve. That’s my opinion though 😁

Nice overview, and we are definitely starting to use it more in large offices. However, I would like to say that the strongest part of the software is barely mentioned here - the animated assets: vegation, cars, and people. So although it may not be the best for the type of interior shown in this video, it's really good at portraying larger urban projects with all the assets that usually make your computer crash if adding them to Blender, Max, Sketchup, Rhino, etc.

Twinmotion might seem nice to use at first, but after using it for about 4 months now I can saw it's such an awful program to work with. It too basis and is absolutely full of bugs. I've had contact with the developers of the software a ton about these bugs. The team working on the project is great and super helpful though. They get back to you within hours and sometimes even minutes. I haven't seen them actually fix a bug yet but this would probably come with a bug fixing update, so that's normal. Maybe I think about the program this way because I use a ton of complicated software which take time to fully understand and learn. But if you're looking for a REALLY easy to understand software and don't mind the bugs, then Twinmotion is a great solution.

Im not sure why but I don't feel the path tracer really gives good lighting results. If you compare it to d5 which gives you only real time results withouts path tracing, d5 looks much better and with far less tweaking and rendering. The fact that the screen space real time render settings are completely different from the path tracer settings make the work very hard to setup. When clicking the path tracer after working in real-time you shouldn't need to rebalance so many settings. The final quality of the path tracer is amazing, but so does vray and other path tracers. If its not faster or simpler there's no real reason to use it.. If they ever bring Lumen from ue5 to the real-time section of twin nothing you wont need the path tracer that much anyway.. As it stands d5 which is also free is much better..

Instead I see no reason to migrate my entire workflow and having to do again all the materials in my library to end up with the same result I have in sketchup.

We just started using Twinmotion and can now do in hours what would take several days to set up in Unreal. I know it's the same engine under the hood, but TwinMotion has done an incredible job of simplifying the process and honing it for the visualization market. I'm really hoping to see EXR output with cryptomatte support as well as the ability to bring in your own animated Alembic or FBX files.

Lumion and Chaos should take notes in the fact that they should also allow students to get their hands on the software at no charge. Lumion specifically since they watermark the renderings and make it so if u work on a project say one of ur designs from school later on even if u purchase a license u cant open it on that version because they didn’t allow Student projects done with the student license on a full commercial license which is ridiculous. I don't like the export to photoshop part. If you're working inside a 3d software to render out an image you should make changes inside the software (twinmotion) itself. There are a lot of ways to fix that concrete, add that lighting effect, make the floor more shinier, and add realistic humans. Because if you have to export a video after this and showcase the environment in 3D the photoshop details would never come up and its too much work for a single image. Also, if you're exporting multiple images and doing photoshop for every image is painstakingly slow and boring. If you have the 3D environment ready with all little details just like in a video game you can take multiple shots of the same.
@LearnUpstairs

That's definitely one way to look at it, Akash. Personally, I find the Photoshop step so vital that I'd never skip it. Rendering engines do have a lot more settings and adjustments now, but it is still no way near as good as PS. But I can understand where your way of thinking comes from. If you need to output 20, 30 images for a generic customer that won't care that much for an extra touch and personality on the image... sure! just stick with the render settings. But for any other use, and to really print your identity to this image, or even experiment with different styles, you can't rely only on a render engine. That's my view on it, but I know that it doesn't work for everybody. Appreciate you sharing your input, thanks! And just a last comment, I'm yet to be convinced that 3D people look good. For me, it just gives such a game-like look that it stands out too much distracting the composition.

Well, twinmotion seems to be a really easy to use and kind of fast render software but, as you said, not being able to export "iD object / Materials" to be use as selection in PS is a huge deal breaker. I'm currently using Enscape as my main and professional rendering software. It's still one of the best software to have really good result quickly, with some fine tweak settings and the cherry on the top, a really easy "video option" so fast to set and working with Sketchup scenes. Damn this is a huge time saver and perfect for client presentation. But now, on my personnal time, i've found "D5 Render". It's currently free (there is a paid version with extra features but not necessary). It remind me Twinmotion with the UI but on steroid and of course with a lot more settings. I don't know if you have test this rendering software ? You should take a look. It's a real time render with Ray tracing and DLSS. Really fast. You have a denoiser inclued in it too.

I used to use Twinmotion a lot at work, but decided to stop recently due to a few reasons: 1-Many of the quixel materials seems to be geared toward game environment rather than archviz. They usually have too much grunge or imperfections, or feel very apocalyptic-y. For archivz, I'd rather have a clean material instead. 2-The low quality of interior renders when path tracer isn't activated. I think it requires 8 gb of vram which most laptops don't have. 3-No displacement. 4:25 totally agree here. I understand that they want to create a a friendly UI, but sometimes it feels like opening a Russian doll just to change one setting. For example, if I want to make a custom material, I should be able to see all its maps on one screen.

The only real downside for me is the UI. Way too many submenus with giant icons! The animated human props are really ugly as well, but there are work arounds. Still miles ahead of the competition I should add. Render quality wise there are some better choices though imho. Vantage beats TM for instance, but it lacks physic based props like water or fire and weather effects. You might really atmospheric pan shots, but not the complexity of a UE scene or the fast versatility of TM. In Vantage you're also limited by high end RTX GPU specs. High end is always a thing in real time rendering, but the Vantage requirements are mind boggling. In this regard TM and Lumion just got better hw optimisation. I wish TM would get the same level of post production filters though. What Vantage offers there is fantastic! A counterpoint for quality in TM is the new path-tracer and HDR implementation. Which I love for static images, but just takes too long for a shot. It kinda undoes the point of real time, having the option however is still great. I'm just saying at that point just use batch render sequence, you're better served that way. I would rather see them making the jump on UE5. Talking about updates, it's mind-boggling (in a positive fashion this time) how fast and often features get added to TM! My office makes primarily Vray based static renders, TM is more of a quick preview kind of deal in most cases. We make videos only for high quality projects or architectures with huge spaces, around six a year. I rarely render something twice on the same version. Every small update comes with quality of live improvement. Every yearly update is at least a small game-changer. Bravo! I always look around for new software, but for real time I always fall back to TM at the end. Industry leader for now!

@Carolina-mw4po
Жыл бұрын
@@ricbattaglia6976 Vantage is pure raytracing. On the other hand, D5, Twinmotion, Lumion are rasterizers with the add of certain raytracing processes. Vantage is the most accurate one, I mean, you put anything on scene and it's instantly photorealistic, no matter what. Different is with the other ones, where you have to work a little bit (like a lot) until the scene reaches the photorealism. I keep D5 on my workflow for scenes with rainy weather, just one click and done. And also for night shots D5 is faster and noise free. Vantage, being purely raytracing makes noise in very dark scenes, so you have to increase the samples a lot, and the rendering times rise to hell. Besides that, night shots won't require too much GI, so D5 looks photorealistic enough without too much work. D5 is free, but Vantage is not, and you also need Vray for it to work, as Vantage is actually realtime Vray. Vantage has a full livelink, so you work in 3dsmax while watching everything instantly rendered on Vantage window, just like it were a max viewport. D5 has a sort of livelink, but as it happens with Unreal, you have to press update button for the max scene to refresh and reveal your changes, so no real livelink on D5.

Those Render elements that you're used to are probably one of the most complex things built into Lumion, as they are not just simple overlays, which is probably par tof the reason why Lumion cost £3k while Twinmotion is only around £400. I switched to Twinmotion after 9 years of Lumion and despite the lack of Render Elements, overall it is such a big upgrade, especially for workflow and interactivity.

Great and honest review! I have been following twinmotion since 2016. Started using it in 2020 and I was biased about Lumion for real-time rendering but I must admit, with these new updates twinmotion is improvising. Even though I miss render elements while exporting the render I still prefer using twinmotion as it is FREE, has new path tracer tech., has compatibility with Unreal Engine 5, Quixel library, cloud rendering, VR export compatibility and top of all it is fast and smooth (even after flooding the scene with plants, water and other objects. With each update, Epic Games and Unreal Engine are becoming tough for their competitors. Kudos to Epic games teams.

So, I am trying to upgrade my arhi-viz by learning some rendering tools in-depht. But I want to learn one and to know it in detail. And I don't know which one to chose: I starterd learning Blender - it's great, but quite complex; On the market, I see they ask for 3dMax and Vray; I used Lumion at work, which is fast and intuitive to use; and I started considering Twinmotion because it's getting better and better and it has a cheap licence (and I am at the beggining of my independent practice - hopefully independent.

For quick fast decent renders, videos and walkthroughs if you have a 3d model then it is quick and great but I am struggling to get really super high quality even using quixel items and materials. It appears that the real superhigh quality renders by Fabrice Bourrelly and others are using UE5 rather than twinmotion. Having that said, 95% of the time decent is fine.

i only checked out twinmotion for a couple of days, and what it really seems to be is just a stripped down version of unreal engine 5 (no surprise obviously since its based on UE) with a different UI, tailored to ArchViz needs. you can get nice results, but at the same time you're quite limited in what you're able to do (for example render settings and shading options). my conclusion was, twinmotion shines if your time budget is short and your technical knowledge somewhat limited, but if your project requires a deeper understanding of rendering, and you want full control of your renders, twinmotion isnt even close to the "best" render engine, also since archViz is only a fraction of what a good render engine should be capable of.

This really is a big step up of previous versions of twinmotion! But i think im going to stick with d5 for now, the ray tracing makes the reflections and ilumination so much more realistic. Negative though is that you need a beeffy graphics card in order for smooth operation but if youve got the horsepower its definately the way to go imo.

I agree. D5 is far superior than TM at the moment. TM still needs development. They have improved a lot, but in my opinion is not there yet. But this is today... TM has EG behind it. It is a matter of time before it becomes a junior UE... wont take long.
