N L I fully get that, I guess there’s not much you can change up in a beat and still keep it ‘drill’ but as someone who listens to a lot of drill, I think all afrobeat beats sound the same, and afrobeats won’t die out anytime soon. I guess it’s just preference but I don’t ever really think all drill beats sound the same, but that’s because I listen to it a lot so I don’t clock it as much

The whole point of drill for the artists is to get off road. Yes drill will die because eventually people will either get bored or all the good artists will have achievedybeir goal of finally getting of road. Making music is their LEGIT income, therefore their music has to become somewhat commercialised. Whether u like him or not, Russ has done very well and now he's become more of a GRM artist. Nothing wrong with that cos now he's happy and can produce different types of music.

You are bang-on with your reasons here. This is why drill is dying and it's a real shame tbh. Just listen to that recent 'Russ x LD' tune and listen to 'Waps - 67'. It's the perfect example. Nito is right, the sound has changed waaay to much. Too many of them are going to jail. It's annoying because as soon as they are free, their workrate is mad. LD is a good example this week alone. But the 'sell out' argument always pisses me off too. A lot of them are proving that they are versatile and can do different types of tunes. (Experimenting as you say). Let me tell you now *Everyone has a price that they would sell-out for*.

The "pop drill" is the drill that's keeping these rappers out of prison i bang out old drill on a daily but it's mostly beef, seeing who can score points first and that's what puts these groups on police radars which eventually ends them going to prison, we can't beat the system about every popular drill rapper we depended on is locked up trying to buss a case or is awaiting trial if they want to put a stop to drill, we won't be able to fight that i don't know about drill having a violence point onto the younger generation of today. With being said if most drill artists end up in jail and the rest of the drill artists convert to pop drill to stay off police radar's then yes. Drill is most likely going to die.

Wag1 everybody! as i first discovered grime in 2016 (I am from Moscow, Russia btw) i really liked it and started listen to it i thought it would never die... 3 years have passed now guys who i used to listen make US styled "rap"/"trap" (call it how u want, i call it shit...) and other guys dont make bangers... so I can say that grime scene is dead :( In 2019 i discovered UK drill and started to listen to it and i can say that influence is very big! Also some russian rappers tried to make drill. So if it is mainstream in UK now it might give some boost to other countries or it will become more US styled or MCs will step somewhere else... (i mean they will make music to sell) p.s. excuse me for my English Peace!

I'm from America, and drill is startin to come unto people here, yk watim sayin. I started listenin to CGM and OFB and their scene. I see drill is evolving, some stickin to they roots, but most branchin out, like with "pop drill". just what happens with drill blowin up as it is, seen this pattern wit artists here. Aint dying, growing

Its dying slowly but as other rappers are released over the next few years such as mizormac it will come back. Also it kinda gives the chance for other not so big names to make it in the scene.

it's kind of obvious that as the most successful artists from the original wave of UK drill guys get in legal trouble for making drill that it'll be adapted to be less raw/more commercial. you can't make music for a relatively small scene forever if you wanna get out the hood.
