LOL, you hit the nail on the head in this video. I had to tell my doctor what strength HRT I wanted to have prescribed, and I had to educate her that it came in a skin patch, which I did correctly figure my insurance company would not cover. My doctor is neither a heroine or a heretic; she is simply doing the best she can with the knowledge that she has. She is also often just the mediator between me and the insurance company. So glad I found your video information Dr. Taylor. Make the rest of your life the best of your life, Ladies :)

I was told just last year that I didnt need a bone density test until I was 65 years old because I dont show signs of needing one. I thought it was great at the time. Now I think it is odd. I am learning so much from you. This video explains so much. Well all of your videos explain so much and teach so much. The being 65 yrs of age to get a bone density test must be a new guideline now with insurance companies. I am encouraged to get a bone density test now and pay for it myself. I qould like to have a baseline to keep track of my bone loss. I wish I had taken a hormone test before perimenopause and menopause so that I would have had a baseline for my hormone loss as well and would know what my norm was and not one established by a lab. Now I am in post menopause and I have nothing to compare my recent hormone test to to see how much my levels have gone down. I can also relate to scenario 8, dont like doctors, screening tests, labs, medicine etc. Thought I could eat right and exercise and I would be fine. I also have dense breasts and thought how can you even see cancer in the image, so I thought why expose myself to the radiation if it probably cant be seen. So I have not wanted to get a mammogram since last year. You stated a good point which is being exposed to a low level of radiation. Is better than the extent of radiation you will be exposed to if you get breast cancer. 😳 Huge awakening for me like when you stated in your estrogen videos about how can estrogen be bad for you when it has been in your body up until menopause? You make amazing points that make me rethink what I am doing or not doing. You changed my mind about not wanting to take HRT and now I am using vaginal estradiol and estradiol tablets. Now I may schedule my mammogram because of your education. Your education has been life changing. Thank you. ❤

Dr. Taylor, I just found your channel and have been searching for guidance on how to handle my very recent “surgical menopause” due to stage 2 endometrial cancer. I had everything removed, including ovaries and just completed pelvic radiation. I will be seeing a new gyno onc in the coming weeks and really need to know what questions and tests to advocate for. In addition, I’m not certain who to listen to regarding HRT after hysterectomy for cancer. I just turned 46 and prior to my diagnosis, I was a fitness competitor, a lifelong healthy eater, and have never taken exogenous estrogen. I HAVE taken progesterone creams off and on over the years. I still wonder HOW I got uterine cancer! But more importantly, how I should manage my menopause symptoms and risks moving forward. I not only worry about reoccurrence, but how to reduce risks of heart disease and osteoporosis. Would you be able to consult and work with me? I really need some sound guidance! Thank you so kindly!

I have lowered my cholesterol and tryglicerides and feel so much better informed and I tell my friends about you all the time Dr. Taylor ! I have a question for you today :) What do you think of taking ultra low dose birth control pill (viorelle) consecutively, skipping the placebo week ? I am 46 and my FSH (I am watching my blood work now ;) is 3.9 My OB recommended for me to do that, because i get horrible headaches during the placebo week. My only concern is, wouldnt this cause for the uterine walls not to shed and not have a period? this is not what causes uterine cancer? is it ? I am only thinking of this, because my mother had uterine cancer. But i have learned from you that birth control pills till around age 55, is the easiest way to prevent all the deseases associated with menopause.
@MenopauseTaylor
5 жыл бұрын
You can certainly take your birth control continuously and never have a period. You know I always want you to understand the logic behind everything. So here's why it's fine to skip the placebo week: Let's start with what happens when you're NOT on birth control pills: Your ovaries produce loads of estrogen in the first half of your cycle. All that estrogen serves to make the lining inside your uterus thick. Then in the second half of your cycle your ovaries produce loads of progesterone. The progesterone keeps that lining think. And then, suddenly the progesterone disappears. It's this disappearance of progesterone suddenly that makes the lining shed. Why? Because progesterone is the baby's hormone. It serves the purpose of making sure the baby has a cushion to burrow into in your uterus should you get pregnant. But, when you don't get pregnant, the progesterone disappears because it has no purpose. Now, contrast that with what happens when you take birth control: Birth control pills contain both estrogen & progesterone. But the ratios of the two are such that they balance each other. And when estrogen & progesterone are balanced, your uterine lining has no opportunity to get thick in the first place. (Remember, what made the lining thick without birth control was estrogen all by itself.) Because your birth control pills contain BOTH estrogen & progesterone in every pill every day, there's no opportunity for the lining to build up. So, when the placebo week comes around, there's hardly any lining to shed. That's why women who take birth control pills have such light periods. Some have no period at all. So, if you skip that placebo week, you aren't causing any harm at all. You'll actually have noire predictability in your life, because your hormones will be steady throughout the month with no rollercoaster effect of hormones that are rising & falling. You are not putting yourself at ANY risk of uterine cancer with birth control pills, especially if you take them continuously, Quite the contrary. You actually lower your risk. And if you take birth control pills for 12 or more years, you decrease your risk of uterine cancer by 70%.

First I want to say that I love doctor Taylor. I've learned so much with her videos I'm already taking action to manage my menopause. Just one thing, gynecologists (in general) not necessarily have enough knowledge on menopause because I just went to see one (although not a member of the NAMS) that supposedly has more knowledge on menopause but she acted as a GP and prescribed what doctor Taylor mentions in the second scenario. She actes as a GP with very little knowledge in menopause. She knows I have osteopenia and yet after some resistance on her part prescribed estradiol but not the dosage to prevent osteoporosis. I'm currently looking for a new doctor.

Dr Barbie thank you for this informative tutorial! Did you interview my family and their dietary and smoking habits and about me? LOL! I have a question. What is the risk of taking HRT and ovarian cancer? I love Estrogen and i am desperate to continue but ovarian cancer is scary!
@MenopauseTaylor
5 жыл бұрын
There is no evidence that estrogen causes ovarian cancer. In fact, ovarian & breast cancer have many of the same risk factors. And neither one is due to estrogen. Both are increased in accordance with the number of periods you've had in your lifetime. The more periods you've had the higher your risk. This means that the women who have had the most pregnancies (and therefore the fewest periods) are are lowest risk for both ovarian & breast cancer, And they are the women who have had the highest estrogen levels for the longest periods of time. Remember: Any time you consider the risks of taking HRT, you also have to consider the risks of NOT taking HRT. In other words, if you stopped HRT out of fear that it could cause ovarian cancer (which is not even true), you'd be incurring the significantly higher (and definite) risks of heart attack, osteoporosis, & Alzheimer's.

I started taking just a half dose of the oral medication and after 4 days I am super irritated, like PMS. I emailed my doctor and he said stop taking the medication. Now I'm more confused, do I need it or not? Is it just about weighing the pros and cons? There wasn't a discussion, just stop taking it. No alternatives.

That's not fair. You deserve sooooo much more than this. It IS all about weighing the pros & cons. HOWEVER< some of the pros are long term. And some of the cons are short term. So you have to weigh whether it's reasonable to forfeit the long term benefits for the short term inconveniences. Your situation is exactly the kind of thing I deal with in one-on-one consultations. If there's any way you can schedule one, please do. I'll explain everything so clearly that you have no question as to whether the pros weigh more or the cons weigh more FOR YOU. Most women are so bombarded by sound bites from, well, everywhere, that they just don't know how to analyze all the bits of information. I was wondering if someone is post menopausal and still have a uterus and ovaries, is it recommended to have and occasional ultrasound to make sure the ovaries are free from ovarian cancer?
@MenopauseTaylor

Ultrasound is not an accurate means of diagnosing ovarian cancer. In fact, the very reason ovarian cancer is so deadly is because we rarely find it early. Terri, Your uterus has ALWAYS responded to estrogen & progesterone. Estrogen makes the inner lining thicken. Progesterone makes it shed. (You can think of estrogen as the fertilizer & progesterone as the lawnmower.) So, when you first start taking HRT, it's possible for you uterus to respond. BUT, you really need to address two things: (1) Is the combination of estrogen & progesterone you're using making the lining too thick? (2) Are the estrogen & progesterone not balanced properly to prevent bleeding in the future? This is the kind of thing that warrants a one-on-one consultation. It is not something you shrug off or ignore. It requires addressing YOUR specifics. It's also not something that warrants ditching HRT and forfeiting all its benefits. I can help you a lot with this, but not in this comment box. I sure hope you can schedule a one-on-one. If you want a consultation, go to MenopauseTaylor.ME to schedule one. (Recently when I showed up for an appt with a new neuro to continue getting migraine treatments with Botox, the receptionist said, “he doesn’t want to do these anymore, here is your 200 units of Botox , bye.” No other neuro around to use, had to pay my derm out of pocket to administer the Botox! Crazy. Then again, his new patient form including asking if one had ever had any alien encounters ! Should have been a red flag. Any he kind of looked like an alien 👽 in a bad toupee, come to think of it!! 😳😆). Dr Taylor , that same derm has the Mona Lisa touch laser for treatment of vaginal meno problems. May I ask your thoughts? Been using oral and vag est (HRT) for approaching a year and not getting vaginal relief. Lastly, forgive me for a very random thought, have searched online without finding info. Is it possible/probable that taking a stool softener and “colon clenz” regularly for extended time could actually contribute to vaginal irritation issues??? I’m sure I’m overly reliant on them. (Colon clenz lists ingrediants as cascara sagrada bark, senna, Chinese rhubarb,black walnut hull,aloe Vera, Oregon grape root,yellow dock root,valerian root, slippery elm bark, and active probiotics). Been taking it for years...but just trying now to do my own detective work on unsuspected reasons estradiol cream nightly hasn’t helped. Thank you for continuing to guide us!

The Mona Lisa Touch is the newest options for trading the vaginal symptoms of menopause. It works in very much the same way that lasers work to reduce the signs of aging on your face. It is slightly painful, but it does rejuvenate the vagina some. Your vagina is the most selfish part of your body when it comes to estrogen. Even when you take enough to alleviate all your other symptoms and all the diseases associated with menopause, your vagina may still be dissatisfied. So, even if you get the laser, you might still need estrogen cream in your vagina. And all cleanse can definitely change the pH in your vagina and cause vaginal irritation, vaginal infections, and urinary tract infections.

What's the best age for bone density test than 65. ? I hate getting mamograms cause the machines aren't safe either. I have to every two years or to renew my hrt. We now how to wait 3 years for pap test. I guess I will have to pay for it or wait.

You should get your first bone density test whenever you start post-menopause, regardless of your age. When you've skipped your periods for 12 consecutive months, it's time to get your first bone density test. It will serve as a baseline for future testes. And, If you already have bone loss, you can stop it! Never let "guidelines" prevent you from doing what's best FOR YOU. Guidelines are for the population as a whole, not YOU as an individual. And they're base on how much money the healthcare system or government is willing to spend on the population.

@@MenopauseTaylor Oh my. I am 58 and my doctor never mentioned. No problem with trying to get me to take anti depressants which made me worse . I decided after 3 years going of hrt went back on. Thanks to you. I was still in that opportunity window. I hate Drs with passion sorry to say. I hope the bone density is covered. It appears I don't meet the requirements and hope it is good news .

In the first 5 years of post-menopause, you lose 2% of your bone every year. Then, you lose 1% of your bone per year every year after that. That means that by the age of 65, you may have already lost 20% of your bone! This is why I push you so ardently to find a way to get a bone density scan early. Get your bone density test even if you have to pay for it. Doing so could save you a fall that fractures your hip or spine and cripples you for life (or actually ends up killing you). If you want to address this personally, schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME.

I don't understand you r comment that "mammograms aren't safe." What do you mean by that? It sounds to me like you have been given a whole lot of misinformation.

@@MenopauseTaylor Radiation like ex ray machines. I guess some radiation is ok? At the dentist, scan machines, how much is good and bad for us? When techn. has to leave a window room to take pics. A rubber vest thing has to be put over my chest at the dentist for pics. We wouldn't want to be getting them all the time

@@MenopauseTaylor 🙏🏻I do applogise if what I said came across in a way I had not intended it to and I appreciate you understanding what I really meant. Regardless, you are truly awesome and the work you are doing is nothing short of path breaking and absolutely phenomenal.
