My most frustrating thing was the way my loose hairs will sneak around and insert into other locs instead of growing or staying in the “home” loc. it will ‘web’, even though I separate as much as possible. Drove me crazy in my earlier years (my texture is more wavy than coily and wanders). I’m 7.5 years now, but I still have to keep an eye out to herd those wanderers back home!

We are 19 years in over here... We have been thru some things together and it shows. I've only had them professionally done once. I've had to cut and trim about 6 times. We are greying thinning at the root whole hair pattern changed now. Surgeries. Medicines. Stress. Diet. Ageing. Life. I may have to change my diet and cut them shorter again given my latest bloodwork. All the advice you gave served us well though. Especially on how not to worry when the changes come. To love them and leave them be to rest and catch itself. Best on time advice ever. 2020 was hardest. There were losses. I listened and we are back on track different but back.. Whatever they do I am working on maintaining my peace along our beautiful journey. I love my hair but it is only an extension of my spirit. Taking care of my spirit this year, and trust my hair will follow. Constant blessings to you, your family and all your subscribers. 💗💗💗

The one thing that’s challenged me is how hard it is to anticipate mature loc sizing. I had a set of locs that I loved for years, but they grew too large for some of the casual loose styles I wanted. Even an updo was hard and I wanted more versatility. Now, I’m 4 months into the 2nd set and may have over corrected. They are twice as many but I hope they swell up more. Time will tell, like always. Thanks for the great question and all the advice!

The three most challenging parts of my loc journey are my hair grows away from my roots/locs, what works for my hair today may not work 3 months from now, and having multiple hair textures resulted in some interesting looking locs (some look like Gucci and some look like Wal-Mart).

I am so happy to see you on! (Maybe I missed seeing the current videos.) Thank you for your advice! I started my lock journey January 2020. I am a breast cancer survivor 🙌🏾 (Thank You Jesus) I have always loved the look of locks! Loosing my hair from chemo was devastating for me but my one thing I planned when it grew back was to try wearing locks! And here I am 2 1/2 yrs later! 😊 For me one thing that I find frustrating with my hair is (and I’m grateful that you addressed this) my hair grows away from my lock. I too thought it was breakage but thanks to you I know better. I did start my own locks, parting and all. I did go to two different hair stylist to wash and tighten them. Bad idea 👎🏾 The worst one used products, clips And the dryer! After listening to teach hair dryers are terrible for locks, I didn’t go back! I continued to watch you! You said “Less is better!” I have issues with my arms from surgery (bi-lateral mastectomy) and from blood clots. But I wait for the days when my pain is less and I wash and tighten my Own Locks 🥰 I have thinning from meds; you mentioned using Wild Hair Growth; I got that and it has helped! My biggest problem is washing too often. That, as you teach, causes thinning too! Now that my base is thicker I can wait longer to wash. I even use Dr Bronner’s Peppermint Soap to wash it with. I use peppermint & tea tree oils. But the tea tree dries mine too much. I’ve just started using coconut oil and I prefer it over tea tree oil. I have used caster oil (old school) too for thickening but it’s so heavy. I wish wish Wish I could get in your chair so that you can help me but I’ll have to wait and pray I can one day! Thank you so much for being so honest, positive and shining! You make a great difference in the world!! 💛🤎💛 Cassi Bell in AL

What frustrates me about my locs is that I did not find you until after I listened to all the loc guru quacks. I did everything you said not to do. I started with the sponge, combined too early, wrapped my hair with human colored hair because I did not want to dye, color or bleach it. So I have locs that are in a disarray. But I have to admit I love them because it is my creation and I am not willing to cut, comb out or start over. I have left them alone to do their own thing. I am happy that my husband has become one of your clients. You have truly blessed his crown.

I'm at 7 years now with below shoulder length (started with "nubbies"). I have the "fuzzy's" and it is frustrating as I would prefer the fresh look. My hair grows outside the locs and within 2 to 3 weeks post re-loc, all the little pieces have begun to grow all around the loc. Even down the length of the loc, some have worked their way out to where I have a full length strand of hair here and there. I've combated it some by having my tech finish me with a 2-strand twist which "buys'' me an extra two weeks of not seeing the fuzzes slip out the length but over-all, I absolutely love my locs and the ease of having this hair life-style.

One thing I have found frustrating during my loc journey is that I wish my locs looked more full than they do now. When I do my hair, it looks “scalpy”. My loose natural hair is very thick so it was a bit surprising to me that my locs don’t appear to be as thick as I thought they would. Another frustration is that my hair is naturally a sandy brown color and since my loc journey (coming up on 2 years July 4th) my locs have lightened up even more and always have an “ashy” brown color to them. I don’t use any products but avocado oil lightly on my scalp every so often and rose water. I also wash my locs once every week or two and nothing helps. But I’ve learned to accept my crown for how it is. It’s healthy, strong and liberating!💜🌸🌺

I have been in the loc journey for 5 years. I cut the perm out shaving my sides and back. I love my locs they are past my shoulders and I can get a nice length ponytail. I have shampooing and twisting my own hair for three years. What is frustrating is when I dont retwist after shampooing and my hair dries strands connect or entertangle. I moisten the hair and pop them a loose. My parts are not straight. Some of my locs are smaller and I combined those not too many just in the back and on the sides. But overall I love my journey. They are fine, as long as, I retwist immediately while damp. The grey growing around the edges and a few strands here and there of grey. The rest of my hair is dark colored. I wouldn't mind the grey if all of my hair was grey. So I am coloring my hair too. I used the clairol natural instinct the other day and I like the end results. I color about every three months.i keep my locs covered at night and actually most days. The pollen is too thick in maryland. Every so often I may not cover but 95% of time my hair is covered.

Also 90 yr old mother, health problems dementia..losing locks around edges, but new growth and healthy locks in middle. I am indecisive about cutting them bc she's had them since she retired at 65! She was one to go get them done @6wks. I believe she had them cut at one time only. She is now in my care and I keep a satin cap on her. The locs on my right side are way thicker and more uniformed but my left side is all over the place mixed with big and little locs I'm tryna find a solution so I could correct them so that they would look a lil more uniformed but they don't look really bad tho only when my locs are dry they look kinda weird

Hello Miss Yannie.... How are U ?? I'm Devante from South Africa & I have been watching Ur videos since 2019 a few years after I locked my hair. I have learnt SO much from watching U & Jimmy taking care other people's crowns. Through watching U I have learnt to be kinder & more loving to my hair but before that I was retwisting the moment it looked like there is a lil bit of new growth. I used to be obsessed with keeping my locx "neat" but now I love them most when they ate disrespectful & rich. I have cut out ALL products & only use the vitamin E oil & rose water for my hair & black Jamaican castor oil for my scalp which has worked just fine for the past 3 years and I only wash & retwist every second or third month. However recently I have been struggling with a very very itchy scalp, so itchy that I wake up just to scratch my head. My scalp is not dry though but the itching is consistent & now very uncomfortable. What could be the problem ?? Am I doing something wrong ??

Dear Ms. Dannie. I had installed my two Stan Micro locks on very fine but abundant 5 to 6 inch hair on the (crown)back, and longer in the from on January 2022 . Before the installation, I had a Bad Bob hair cut. My hair is not that kinky there fore the two stands twist were very good looking intill I decided to installed some braid hair and four weeks later the entire journey changed. The entire front hair turned into a madded mess All the long front hair broke all the locks joined and not to take a ceiussors and cut everything I have being working with it.. but its a really torture when is washing my hair.. it's growing but isn't advancing on the front. . The back hair is in very good condition. . Aldo, I have been using all about the Aloe Vera things. Shampoo added, moisturizer as well. I'm believing that my hair doesn't like the aloe and that is the reason my front hair condition is like an over processed or over relaxed hair and over my eyebrows's length. I listen to all your advices pls. Help. I had offer my crown to the Lord but I'm about to cutting it all. You know that breaking a promise to God is a Very bad thing. 😐😑😪

I’ve been loc’d for over 3 years now and my hair is armpit length. I leave my hair alone for the most part. I don’t like the tight styles and usually will wear my hair down often. My new growth does not grow into my locs and it was frustrating dealing with it but now I can work with it to the point where I doesn’t bother me. I wear my hair in sexy curls most time. I would say my biggest challenge is lint and product build up. I don’t use products anymore after discovering this channel but I had build up from the previous times. I will try dying my hair to cover the lint though. Also my ends sometimes look straggly probably from the rollers. I would trim them if it was bad but I love this journey and it’s my favorite out of all the journeys I had. Minimal is definitely key for me!

I am 10 months into my loc journey and I am loving the process. I will say, I do wish that my locs did not curl in the back. I feel that I lose length because my locs curl and it looks as though my locs are shorter than they really are. Like the young lady, I also have some really skinny locs around the perimeter of my head that I'd like to be thicker. Also, my hair naturally grows in layers so I cannot get all of my locs into a ponytail just yet. Fingers crossed I'll have my ponytail by December.🤞🏽 As the saying goes, "trust the process" right.😉😊

I'm frustrated about my parts. The person that did them didn't pay attention to the different densities on my head, so there's more variation in the sizes than I expected. I also wish I did diamond parts because when my current "c" parts it can be hard to know where stray hairs belong. And in one area they keep marrying and I think it's because of a parting mistake there. It's not bad enough to start over, but it's annoying.

Definitely what bothers me the most is dealing with the residue that gets trapped inside some of my locs, I can see it partially comes out by scratching with my fingernail. It frustrates me to continue this problem even though I have switched to an organic shampoo from the Urtekram brand and despite I wash my hair once every two months, without using any more products. I'm trying to solve it by applying a bit of dishwasher in those spots where buildup accumulates, it works after rinsing them out.

My scalp dries out quickly and I use Black Jamaican oil and vitamin E and rose water, I cover my Locs always. I oil my scalp when it begins to itch, the oil does help take away the itchy but a week after oil treatment my locs feels dry.

I recently vacationed in Mexico and the chlorine, salt water, and direct sun did a number on what used to be my very thick, natty, crown. Now my locs are breaking at the ends and I'm combining them (via 2 strand twist) with hopes to strengthen them. Any advice for sun and water damaged locs and breakage? I am almost four years locked btw.

Webbing and hair growing away from the loc. It makes loc separation and maintaining parting after shampooing a nightmare.

My challenge is, how do I keep the new growth unraveling after each retwist.. like how do I get the new growth to loc cause after washing the whole new growth twist just unravels and it shrinks

Greetings everyone, from London, UK. I have had locs since 2017 and have had to cut them twice during my journey. Each time my heart sank but each chop was necessary due to weight issues. No matter what I do, ie drink water, eat properly, exercise....my hair is ALWAYS crispy. I do not wash often as I find it a trial, so approximately every two months. Admittedly, I have dyed it over the years but on the whole I cherish my crown and have not used too many products. I have had it styled quite regularly over the years and perhaps should have left it free. The locs are uneven and bobbly down the shift even though I do not manipulate them, thin on the hairline in front and frizzy and hard to soften. My hair is not too tightly coiled, but not loose either. I now wish I had started them thicker, like your client's. Ahhh, Yannie, any thoughts of coming to London to do a Q & A? Pretty please? Peace 🤎🇯🇲

Love my loc don’t like when it time to wash they seem fragile. Meaning I alway had fine texture hair and when I wash it become extremely stringy. If I plan on Retwisting I usually want until the next day to do so and only spray a little water.

Well I’ve only had my locs for four months but the thing that drives me crazy about them is that they get really really frizzy I have fine density hair so my hair frizzes really bad

What is frustrating is that my hair is soft and grows away from the loc so I have to separate my locs every two days so they don’t marry together I’ve been loc’d 3 years and 5 months I love my journey

In the past I hated the FRIZZ!!! Now 16 months into my journey it seems that my locks are popping off below the budding area. I’m not sure if the hair has retracted or coiled to become a part of the bud.
