Just one thing I am now more cautious, what do you mean if bank didn't pay for deposit insurance. Therefore does it means those bank that goes default will not be covered by the insurance because they didn't pay the premiums? The rules are so unclear as who are the depositors getting insure. I am pointing out to Pursuant to Article 26 of the Law on Deposit Insurance 2012. Or is there a new regulatory rule that clear up the doubt of depositor concern.

With the giant property bubble in Vietnam right now I would be very careful about depositing large sums with relatively new banks in Vietnam. Whet the sh@t hits the fan I doubt there is is enough in reserves for the Vietnam gov to cover everyone’s deposits. Things are going crazy over in Vietnam where property speculators care nothing about fundamentals and everyone expects 50 to 100 percent gains per year. Greed always ends in tears.

Vietnam has all kinds of business laws and regulations, but are they enforceable or executable by the govt. when things go wrong are something totally different.

75 million VND deposition protection per account seems a bit low, are there any other mechanism to protect much higher deposit value?

Ken, Just a quick question, I'm here in the United States and I have a US citibank account. I've read conflicting information about citibank pulling out of Vietnam? Do you know if this is true?

Citi announced back in April it will exit consumer banking in 13 countries in East Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and South Korea, as well as in Australia. However, it is unsure when and it will review the countries it is staying. We will keep you posted when we will have more information about it.

@@duongglobalbusinessconsulting I do not have a Vietnamese bank account, I am currently banking with Chase and US Bank. I just want to be able to go to VN and withdraw money from my own bank account or Debit card while I’m in VN but I want to be able to withdraw a large amount around $30,000 . Thank you again,

@@Jason1904 having been working in the banking industry for over 15 years now, this runs into a few “anti money laundering” laws… just fyi. and before anyone jumps to conclusions, i’m not saying that there are nefarious reasons for withdrawing that much cash in USD. the rules are there to prevent those types of activities. with that being said, international banks such as HSBC or Citi Bank have branches in VN. with the amount of $ you’re talking about, you’d be able to open an account that has “international” capabilities. as for your question about withdrawing the funds, i’ll let you research that

@Jason Win , if you do not have a bank account in Vietnam, then it will depend on your own Chase debit card international withdrawal limits and status. You can do an over-the-counter withdraw at any major bank. However, it will be likely less than $2,000 withdraw per day at best with possible international withdraw fees and charges. ATM withdrawals are limited to VND 6,000,000 per time with international cards. The best option for you will likely be to open a bank account in Vietnam. Please watch our earlier banking in Vietnam video to learn more.

What is not known by general public is that all idled aircraft's in storage more the 3-5 months, must be registered, rechecked , costing billions of dollars. Vietnam falls into this category, among most countries. VN is not a reinvesting country.
