Firelord Izumi,, ascended to the throne of the Fire Nation in the years between the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra as a result of the shock Abdication of Firelord Zuko for currently unkown reasons. Although there is no canon reason, it’s pretty safe to say he did this to ensure that there would not be a power struggle for his position after his death. A very wise and mature move for Zuko to make. Either way, As a ruler, Izumi played a pivotal role in maintaining peace and balance in the world. But there is one thing she never demonstrated, her ability to firebend.
And that leads us onto the first piece of evidence in favour of her being a fire bender:
*Family Tree and Linneage:*
In the world of Avatar, bending abilities are often inherited through generations. Since both her father, Zuko, and her grandfather, Ozai, were powerful Firebenders, it's plausible that Izumi may have inherited the same abilities. Furthermore, her son, General Iroh the Second, is shown to be a skilled Firebender, suggesting that Firebending runs strong in the family. However, there is no definitive evidence in the series to confirm whether Izumi is a Firebender or not. It’s possible that the ability to bend skipped Izumi’s generation in the bloodline.
