The guitarist who recorded also created that hypnotic original wah wah lick. His name name is, Skip Pitts, R.I.P.. As I understand it, Skip introduced this riff to Issac on the spot while Issac was expecting a rather regular 16th note octave riff. When Issac heard what Skip had in mind, it blew his mind, and the rest is history! I chime in with this because, it saddens me when great no-named musician who've done great things go to their graves with what they did, and most behind have no idea of their contributions to major stuff. Cudo's Skip!!!!

After watching their performance on David Letterman (check it out on YT), I checked out Pitts and sadly found that he had passed from cancer. He was a beast on that guitar; he owned it. Everything Isaac touched turned to gold.

That's Charles "Skip" Pitts playing in the video. Actually, he came up with the riff by accident, just messing around setting up his wah-wah pedal. Isaac liked the sound and the rest is history.

I was first introduced to Issac Hayes when I was in Army basic training Jan -March 1971 by our African American drill sergeant. I was a young white kid with 2 years of college from a military family and was digging the Kool rock n roll scene at the time. Our drill sgt lived in the old WW2 barracks with us and would play Isaac Hayes "Hot Buttered Soul" album over and over. It definitely got into my head, but also my soul, especially the song, 'Walk on By". It chilled me out and helped me to sleep due to the high stress of boot camp. I actually got me an 8 track tape of his music. So imagine my surprise to find all his music on KZitem, yeah, especially the song...Walk on By. I'm now retired from the military and verily survived Vietnam, working graveyard shift, age 71 and listening to...always so Kool, Issac Hayes. Thks KZitem 🤣👍

His band played the introduction for about half an hour before he made his entrance in a head-to-toe black cape and paced around the stage for awhile, band still playing. My best friend and I saw Issac Hayes at the O'Keefe centre in Toronto on the early 70's . Little did we know this concert would change our lives; his musicianship and professionalism were evident and the gold Cadillac on stage was a sight to be seen. We both went home happy 14year olds, realising seeing and hearing music like this was a once in a lifetime experience. whose the brother?.........peace is peace. His songs are thoughtful and offer a real "cold water on your face" christening of soul and holy Spirit. Love is love. A ndrea my best friend and I sat back stage and saw the concert from the sidelines. His body guards were very kind and they laughed about us two young girls being there. It was exhilarating to listen to,and see such gifted musicians. Xoxo

And we weren't even showing the movie! This was the one everyone was talking about, and one of the biggest things that had everyone buzzing was Isaac Hayes! What a theme! What an entrance for John Shaft! It was on everyone's radio, all the time! It was on everyone's record player, all the time! Everyone I knew had the foldout cover for BLACK MOSES on their wall! Hayes deserves every accolade he ever got for his work, and it's so sad that he left us too soon. God Bless you, Isaac, for all the brilliance you gifted us.
