Google Earth Tour of our trip from Ilagan to Divilacan traveling by 4x4, bike, and motorized banca. On the 2nd day of our Isabela East Coast Adventure, we left Sindun Bayabo in Ilagan, Isabela at around 5:30am with Sir Matt guiding us and facilitating our passage through the checkpoints along the way. We were so fortunate to witness multiple sea of clouds along the way and were able to travel 55kms until we reached the landslide section which was impassable to our vehicle. From here on, we rode our bikes for another 25km until we reached Divilacan at around 12:30pm. It took us a little over 3 hours to reach our destination but the hardest part was the first 6kms of the ride where we had to cross narrow trails along steep cliffs created by the landslides where one mistake can mean the difference between life and death. After that, it was mostly rolling with a few uphill sections. We were lucky because it did not rain the past few days and the trail was dry. According to Sir Adriel, a group of motorcycle riders went to Divilacan the week before and had a difficult time due to the muddy road in the last 10kms of their ride. It seems that luck was on our side on this trip because not only was the weather cooperative but we also met a lot of friendly and hospitable people. Aside from meeting Kapitana Levy Mateo of Sindun Bayabo and her son Matt, we were also fortunate to meet the Vice Mayor of Divilacan who was on his way to Ilagan. He invited us to stay at his house in Brgy. Dimapula and also offered to ferry us to Palanan in his motorized banca for a fee. He even invited us to spend the night in his house in Palanan. Our luck just keeps getting better and better. After registering at the Tourists’ Pavilion in Divilacan, we proceeded to the house of the Vice Mayor to meet Sir Frederick and then ate lunch at a nearby eatery while our boatman Sir Dong prepared the boat. We traveled for 3 hours on rough seas to reach the shores of Brgy. Dimapnat which is still part of Divilacan but near the border of Palanan. After unloading our bikes, we proceeded to Sitio Disukad, where the vice mayor's house was located. On the way, we met a soft-spoken elderly lady standing at the entrance to the Multi-purpose Center of Brgy. Dimapnat. She asked us the usual question of where we were from and why we were there. Sir Danny asked her if she is a teacher and she said that she is the Punong Barangay and the wife of Vice Mayor Custodio. We were so amused with the coincidences and turn of events. Many thanks to Kapitana Levy and Sir Matt and to Vice Mayor Custodio and his family for their kindness and generosity.
