Isle of Mull Cheddar: A quintessentially Scottish traditional cheddar
Isle of Mull is a mature farmhouse cheddar made from unpasteurised cows' milk from a herd of Friesian cows.
It is matured for 12 months developing a strong, sharp and tangy in flavour. Occasionally it has a slight blue vein, but this just adds to the flavour.
Producer
In 1979 Jeff & Christine Reade moved from Somerset to a dilapidated farm Sgriob Ruadh (Gaelic for Red Soil) on the Isle of Mull. In the ensuing years they built up their farm and business from the ground up and it now includes cow housing and milking facilities, cheesemaking rooms and aging cellars, as well as its own hydroelectric plant. The farm and the cheesemaking operations are now overseen by their son and his family.
