Ms. Baez added her particular brand of brilliancy to any song she performed. In this case she interpreted a song released in 1966 by the Clancy Brothers, an Irish folk group. Their version, featured in this video, was an adaptation from a much earlier - and somewhat rowdier - English music hall song from the 1930's called "Ain't it Grand to be Blooming Well Dead". The Clancy Bros. and Tommy Makem added a chorus and simplified the lyrics to make the song appropriate for a US folk music revival audience.

It's about pensioners who do nothing but hang out at funerals, talk s*** about the person who died and everyone at the funeral, and await their own death.
